A story about Growing up

In the beginning, Ella is about as spoiled as they come. She is shallow, she is mean, she is completely self-absorbed. Luckily for her, her dad decides to ruin her life. The result is she learns, she grows, she becomes a better person. She begins to see something beyond herself. It is a story about growing up, becoming more mature, and learning how to be a good human being.

I gave this book 3 stars but it could be a 3.5 stars. I'm not really sure how I feel about this book honestly. I thought it would be interesting because of the setting and the big move Ella has to make. I was a little bothered by Ella though and her attitude about everything. I get moving can be rough and really suck in your senior year but she was determined to not like anything and make it seem like she was moving to the tundra to live in an igloo. Her dad even told her they would come back to ...more

I really enjoyed this book! It’s on the younger side of YA which I feel like I haven’t had the chance to read a lot of recently and I’ve missed it. I was excited when this book started in montreal because I live there and I knew exactly what the main character was referring to. When she moves to Iqualuit, you learn so much about a different culture and the story makes it entertaining while being informative. I’ve seen reviews complaining about Ella’s bad attitude but placing myself back in high ...more

I really enjoyed the premise of this book, a city-slicker girl moving to the North Pole, and enjoyed Ella's characterization and her friendships. I also really loved learning about First Nations culture and traditions.

I wasn't the hugest fan of the 3rd person omniscient style, but I think that's a personal preference.

Overall, super cute!

Jacinthe Dessureault loves to write comedy, suspense, and mystery, with a hint of romance. She is a big fan of lemon meringue pie, waking up by herself before the alarm goes off, and the silly antics of Boonie and Jackson, her family’s two adorable lop buns.

As an independent filmmaker, she has written and directed a few short films and TV commercials, and written feature screenplays.

She lives in M
