It may only be my version but I had to read it very carefully at the beginning and end. Otherwise pages started to come loose.

instead of rating each individual volume, i’m just gonna rate the overall story (so far) here because it makes more sense to me to rank them as a whole
so, yeah. four stars. this shit fucked me right up and i’m feelin’ feels, but i would 100% read it (and weep) for the first time all over again because it is really that fun (until it’s not fun and gets sad bUt LeT’S nOT taLk aBoUT tHAT)

I binged this series over 3 days on Hoopla and I am not okay. I was so intrigued the entire time, I just wanted to see what happened next. All of the characters were so complex and it really shows that everyone's the protagonist of their own story. I'm seriously in awe of the depth. There's a ton of gore, sex, nudity, and just general vulgarity in Saga, but it doesn't feel trashy when it so easily could. The art is gorgeous, even when what it's depicting is not. Hazel's inner monologue gave me c

I hated reading this. I hated it because I love the characters, but the plot just won't stop throwing our protagonist family into just the worst scenarios, just over and over.
The series (seeing how this is an omnibus) is filled with blood, action and character, but I think that it is defined by its quiet moments. By it's heartfelt moments, from the literal beginning to the cliffhanger ending.

I hate this book. I hate this series. I hate Brian Vaughan and Fiona Staples for what they’re doing.
So...why do I also love them and their incredible work of art so much?
Saga is brutal. It is fucking brutal, man. But it is beautiful and messy and real and funny and true and did I MENTION beautiful? But it’s also brutal. And you can’t forget that. Because as much as the characters in this may look like something from a fairy tale, the main characters and those in their orbit are not living one. N ...more

the casual use of slurs (specifically the r-slur, the f-slur and the s-slur) was so unnecessary and it ruined the books for me.
also the rampant fatphobic and ableist language. why was that needed in a book where no one is human and therefore socialisation is different from humanity?
the only trans character’s narrative wasn’t handled well at all — they were consistently misgendered by a character we are SUPPOSED to like.
overall you can tell this story was written by a cishet white man.

At this rate, who is going to be left to kill for volume two? (Also damn, volume 9. Just...damn.)

Heartbreaking portrayal of cycles of violence that go on and on and on and on ;~; Deaths are inevitable but painful to read anyway. A pervasive sense of grief and loss and dread throughout. Narratively and graphically beautiful regardless of the content. Apparently there are 54 more issues to go—am itching for more!

In 2018 I read a TON, and I read quite a bit that I liked. 2019 has SUCKED and I haven’t cared about very much that I’ve read at all. I don’t know if it’s me or the books. But Saga has finally rekindled my love of reading for this year. The art is so so beautiful and the plot is extremely well-done. There’s foreshadowing but it’s never heavy-handed; there’s suspense but not to the point that it becomes predictable. There are some smutty sex scenes but I feel like they toe the line very nicely. A

1400 pages of Saga in one print edition... it sounds crazy but also amazing, and I want it.

okay so, this is more like 3.5 not 3 stars. the only reason why im not bumping this to 4 stars is that i just couldn't get attached to the characters??? i felt bad for them and i was somewhat invested in them and their stories, but none of the (many) deaths got me shedding one (1) tear, or feeling the feels. not entirely sure why that is as i usually cry my eyes out.
that being said the art is crazy beautiful and the story itself is GOOD, otherwise i wouldn't have read over 1300 pages of it. it r ...more

Oh my. This compendium is absolutely stunning. I read all 1300+ pages in a single day because I couldn't put it down, and I don't know if I'll find a graphic novel quite like it again. It also absolutely destroyed me and I'd like to unread the last few pages because they broke my heart.
The story is a little bit Romeo and Juliet, a little bit Game of Thrones, and it's all set in space. It's full of bizarre fantasy creatures, from tiny talking rodents to humanoid television sets, to giant ...more

Re-reading this with fresh eyes truly was a joy. I see in my life how these pages in full collection really influenced me as a person. Words simply cannot express the fullness of that feeling. It's a perfect story so-far.

I feel like my heart has been ripped out of my chest. I had no idea really of what I was getting into when I started this. It was recommended to me by a friend, and I’ve never been happier with a recommendation.
This compendium of the first 9 volumes is a good way to binge read everything that’s been published for the series at this point in time.

Saga is a masterpiece and a must read for anyone who claims to love sci-fi/fantasy. The art is beautiful in an unassuming way. The writing is raw, vulgar and always gives you food for thought without telling you what’s right and what’s wrong or how you should feel about someone or a certain situation. It just shows you how things escalate and how people evolve, encouraging you to make from the story what you want. The plot is not only action-packed and extremely engaging but finds ways to twist

When I started reading Saga my expectations were quite high, I’ve heard such great things about this story so I really hoped that I would get blown away by the story and art. And I did.
We get to follow Alana and Marko, two different people they belong to two different species. These species has been at war for ages and hate each other but still, these two find each other and fall in love...which brings little Hazel to the world.

The fastest emotional rollercoaster in the galaxy. Like comics? You’ll love this one. Don’t like comics? You’ll still like this one.

This is an amazing series. I just finished a second read...and I don’t won’t to write too much and spoil anything for anybody.
Before I read the series through, a friend described it as Game of Thrones meets Star Wars. For all I know, that’s a common saying....but I think somewhat accurate. I say somewhat because this is the most original story I think I’ve ever read and I hate to link it to anything else.
Can’t WAIT until #55.

Really enjoyable volume. I'd read a bunch of the loose issues and wanted to revisit it. The art is constantly surprising and inventive, with lots of grown up graphic imagery. Personally I found it worked best when it was focused on the adventure and escape. Some of the social commentary feels a bit shoehorned, but you don't expect subtlety from comics. Saga is a nicely balanced epic, with an anything can happen element that keeps it interesting.

I like how my friend put it: “Not gay enough, which is my critique for most things.” For a book that centers a (very good) straight couple, this book also has a ton of great and nuanced queer representation and is an amazing reflection of life and humanity (from the most lovely to the most horrific). Very enjoyable. Good for fans of Monstress, and probably other comics.

Re-read. I suspect SAGA, like TRANSPARENT, will be seen as exemplary of a time when sexual identities and cultural attitudes toward them were rapidly changing. At the beginning of my re-read, I couldn't help but feel like the story employed queer identities and strange aliens to support what was in essence a very traditional, heteronormative, and even reproductively futurist story about marriage and child-raising. Yet, I feel that Vaughan and Staples learned something as the years passed and the

I know every single person who’s ever been in a comic store will recommend Saga, but I’m going to recommend it anyway. It is currently (as of September 2019) on issue 54 and taking a hiatus because the last issue was a REAL BANGER.
