7 February 2026: Tried to interest my youngest grandchild in this with no success this weekend. Bringing it down to my daughter's this coming weekend for her girls. Boys' tastes are different than girls, so their reaction may be more favorable....
In spite of the rather unusual name (which I do get, but children won't, as with so many things for children, they are more for adults than children) this is a pretty good choice for a very simple first catechism book. Each two-page spread has one sentence which tells something significant about our faith and gives a simple picture relating to it. I like that it is simple. It could be five stars were it not for the artwork.
Whatever happened to the beautiful, and I do mean BEAUTIFUL ARTwork which used to delight the eye in children's religion books? That was one thing which made me LOVE my religion books so much as a child; they were such a visual feast! This one .... well, it looks like so many other children's books today, either so-so or downright ugly. No wonder children don't want to read.
