So helpful, and relatable. This is really a Bible of information on art and becoming an artist. Must read for all interested or learning. Reading this cover to cover again now.
Sketch Every Day: Over 200 Pages of Art and Sketching Techniques - Simone Grünewald Rating: ★★★ Divided into 5 sections (plus introduction) - "My Creative Journey" (part curriculum vitae, part personal timeline) - "Artist's Advice" (sketching everywhere, not waiting until you have the right tools, growing a following, finding your style) - "Art Fundamentals" (lighting, composition, perspective, inking, colour palettes) (the most interesting of the two sections filled with technical drawing techniques) - "Character Design" (how to draw faces (eyes, nose, mouth), hands, feet, clothes, body proportions, dynamic poses, body languages, hair (and facial/body hair), aging characters, caricatures, dogs, cats, fur, trees) (all good things, longest section, but a bit basic compared to other drawing material) - "Family Life" (balancing work with having a family, probably my favourite section, also the shortest)
This is a great-looking book full of gorgeous illustrations. The majority of the book is instructional, touching on topics from basic anatomy to lighting to composition. Some topics are touched on more thoroughly than others, making the lessons feel incomplete. The page layouts seem to favor visual balance over logical flow, making the information a bit scattered. Still, there's a lot of great stuff to learn from this book, although I probably wouldn't recommend it for beginners.
Very nice book on sketching. Essentially a collection with tips on a whole load of different aspects of drawing and thereby sketching. Each of this topic can in itself be seen as individual exercise(s), making for a healthy dose of inspiration and work.
Caveat: This is better suited for beginners, since the contend is, while beautifully presented and well organized, nothing new for someone experienced.
This is my favorite out of Simone's book and has helped my art a lot more than I initially thought it would. I love Simone's art and it has a lot of it in there but also the breakdown of her artistic process and how to be a better artist. She has experience and knowledge and talent and her book is amazing.
