synchronicity: When chance lines up for a specific event.
A sweet contemporary romance of chance, coincidence or fate. Whichever is your belief, acting on that moment can change your life.
In this romance, Emma is reminded of her lost love when she finds the gift she gave him years ago in college. With the help of her best friend, Emma is spending her Christmas vacation in a picturesque inn exactly where Fletcher will be.

I want to thank St Martin's Press for an ARC of the book. I loved this New England Christmas Love Story set in Vermont. I could especially relate since I am a New Englander myself. So Emma goes to a pawn shop in NYC and notices a watch that she gave to a college boyfriend 11 years ago. Emma buys the watch and ends up in an Inn in Vermont where this College boyfriend, his fiance and his daughter is. And things come together that may change Emma's destiny. This was a well written love story and ...more

Christmas in Vermont is just a cozy, delightful story. This is a book you will want to wrap up in a blanket by a cheery fire with a steaming cup of hot chocolate to read. I don't think I have ever heard of synchronicity before or at least I haven't experienced it, but this book makes me a believer!! In addition to that, it will make you a believer in second chances.

Around the holidays we all like those warm, fuzzy, feel good stories. And just like a Hallmark movie, this is one of those stories.

Do you enjoy those Hallmark Christmas Movies? I used to slightly rebel against them whenever my wife asked me to watch them with her, especially when we had 70 on the DVR, but now I love them

This book is exactly like one of those movies. It is sweet and romantic and gives you all the warm fuzzies you need for the holidays. Reading this book felt like watching a movie, all the details were clear and I felt like I was just another guest at the inn and I absolutely loved the meddling little girl

Emma lives in Manhattan and is a successful advertising agent. She has two beautiful godchildren, and a best friend but can’t keep a relationship. Oh, it’s not them, it’s all her. She ends them before they can propose. After ending her current relationship and attempting to give back a beautiful bracelet, she finds herself in a pawnshop and that is where she finds the watch she gave Fletcher. The one man she gave her heart to….

Her best friend calls it synchronicity and Googles Fletcher. When she
(DNF due to extremely poor research and patently awkward story-line for this day and age). I love romances but this one I would have had to suspend too much reality to finish.

I would have read on to see how this book was going to turn out but gave up very early in it for the simple reason that I am tired of so many authors doing sloppy research. But this one took the cake.

When an author can't do research into something so simple as to Norman Rockwell's birthplace (my very favorite artist BTW) or

Christmas In Vermont reminded me of a wonderful Hallmark Christmas movie. Full of interesting characters, CIV has a fast-paced storyline following main character Emma who has a long history of ending her relationships as they near their first anniversary.
Emma pawns a gift given to her from her latest ex-boyfriend, and sees a watch under the glass she had given to the ONE guy she thought she’d spend the rest of her life with, Fletcher. Her BFF Bronwyn believes in synchronicity, a group of

This is an action packed romance that will lead you from the heart of Manhattan to the quaint beauty of Vermont.
What occurs is not what you might expect as it may seem dumb luck to some while to others it it's magical.
I love the characters especially Emma upon finding her ex boyfriends watch at a pawn shop which leads us on this journey to find her long lost love from college -Fletcher-a man whose captured

It all started with an engraved watch, Emma found at a pawn shop in New York City. It was the same watch she had given to Fletcher, a boyfriend she had eleven years before.

Emma had her second chance at love when went to Snowberry Inn in Vermont, at her best friends advice, for Christmas and New Years.

Fletcher was there too with his daughter Lola and Megan his fiancee. In a surprising turn of events, Emma gave Fletcher the engraved watch again.

A lovely story and a page turner too.

Emma visits a pawn shop on Christmas Eve to sell a bracelet from an ex boyfriend. She plans to donate the money to charity but sees an old watch she had purchased for her college love and does an exchange. It motivates her to search for him and finds him and his daughter at an Inn in Vermont. She signs up to be a children's activity director for the holiday and see if they still have sparks. A nice Christmas romance that is a little predictable and seems to end rather abruptly. A very enjoyable ...more

Every year this happens. I block out the entire month of October for strictly Halloween reading (mysteries, horror, thrillers etc), but then all the holiday romances start coming out and next thing I know it’s like Christmas in October on my blog!

I am one of those closet holiday movie fans. There is something so fulfilling about a feel good romance set around the holidays, and I can’t say no to a holiday romance novel to save my life!

I have read all of Anita Hughes’s holiday romances

I am a sucker for a Christmas story, and a Christmas story with a second chance of love story included is the best.

Emma and Fletcher's tale is serendipitous in that a chance finding at a pawn store leads our lovelies on a journey to reconnect, and to realise they never stopped loving each other.. swoon.

Of course there are hurdles to jump, however I liked that it wasn't all easy peasy for our lovelies. They had to fight for

Absolutely adored this book! Christmas in Vermont is your classic cheesy "Hallmark movie." You know the type, likable characters, swoon love story, and a predictable happy ending that you just crave so badly around the holiday time. I especially loved the writing style of Anita Hughes. Beautiful descriptions but nothing too lengthy and the storyline never felt drawn out. This was my first by her and it won't be my last. I fell in love with every single character (except Megan), and could not get ...more

Emma should be walking on the beaches of Maui with Scott right now instead of walking the streets of Manhattan on Christmas Day. It’s clearly her fault, she knows, but five days ago she just knew he was about to propose when he gave her this beautiful bracelet she’s about to sell if she could only find an open, second-hand Jewelry store. She had to break up with him; Scott was a great guy, but she wasn’t ready to marry him!

As Emma entered the only shop open today, the older gentleman behind the

Emma has a history of ending romances as they near their first anniversary. Having just ended a romance and wanting to pawn the bracelet her ex had given her, she happens upon a pawn shop where she finds the watch she’d given her college boyfriend Fletcher - perhaps her one true love. When she reveals this to her best friend Bronwyn, Bronwyn convinces Emma this is synchronicity - a group of meaningful coincidences. I was provided with an ARC of this book by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I was not at all impressed with the writing in this story. Every scene was staccato short and poorly developed. Lola was cute at first, but soon became the most irritating child. The author merely used her to drive the plot forward instead of having the adults be adults. Fletcher and Emma both were ridiculously immature and I didn’t like either of them for a moment.

Looking for a cheesy Christmas romance in the vein of Hallmark or a Netflix original? Well, here you go.

Christmas in Vermont was exactly what I expected it to be. It was cliche and predictable. One of those books where you know the ending from the very first pages. But I think there is a market for those types of book, so if that's what you're looking for, it would be right up your alley.

I personally had a hard time with quite a few things in the story that caused me to rate it lower:
1. A 9

I wanted to love this one. I adore Christmas and a storyline about a second chance at love in an idyllic winter wonderland sounded great. While I expected a predictable storyline, for me, books like this are all about the journey and this one wasn’t as good as I’d hoped.

The characters were my major problem with this book. I felt many of the characters were one-dimensional, but my major character problem was with the 9-year-old that was given dialogue as if she were an adult. It made it very

After a break up with her boyfriend. Emma heads to the pawn shop to cash in her bracelet. Once there she sees a watch. The same engraved watch she gave Fletcher, her first love eleven years ago. Emma gets the watch. Her friend is working the Christmas magic when she signs Emma up to go to snowy Vermont and help the Inn keeper. Eleven years is a long time but she sees him, yes! Fletcher her first love. But he is with his fiancee and his daughter. This was a deeply moving story. I could relate to ...more

Likeable characters, a small town in Vermont, romance, second chances, Christmas time....makes for a sweet, cozy read.

If you're looking for a read to put you in the holiday mood, look no further! With a strong, kind heroine, a hero who needs to sort himself out, and a precocious ten year old who tries her hand at matchmaking, this story will make you laugh, tug at your heartstrings and get you ready to celebrate the holidays with those you love.

Emma can't seem to make a relationship work. When things hit the one-year mark, she always seems to find a reason to call it quits. But there may be a reason her

When I first spotted this advanced reader copy available via Netgalley, I simply knew I had to read it. I live in Vermont, and I love all the warm fuzzies I get when reading a second chance at love romance, especially at Christmastime. I'd also never read anything by this author before, and thought I'd request this title. Well, you know the old saying, "Be careful what you wish for," because it was certainly true of this novel, which got off to a good start and then floundered, which is why I ...more

I really wish I could say something nice about this book but the only thing nice about it is that the story takes place in Vermont, which seems wonderful.

The characters are shallow and unlikeable. Fletcher sucks as a father...I'm wondering what kind of father leaves his nine year old alone at an inn to have some alone time with fiancee and stays away for five hours. Oops, sorry we just kind of stopped to have a five course lunch. Idiot.

Emma was also clearly stupid who fell for Fletcher. Don't

"Christmas In Vermont" by Anita Hughes

My Rationalization:

What an enjoyable Christmas read filled with 'synchronicity/coincidence' was something that 'appears in your life when you least expected it and in the end made your dreams come true.' This is exactly what happened to Emma as it was for her to lose love, hoping to find it again and then finally finding love. Yes, this was

Disclaimer: I love literary fiction, but I also love Hallmark movies. This book falls in the latter category. Halfway through this book I realized I’d read another Anita Hughes book: Christmas in Paris. I didn’t love it. It was unrealistic and cliches...even MORE cliche and unbelievable than a Hallmark movie.

This story, however, was just pretty much charming. Emma has never gotten over her college boyfriend, and she had dated and dated and been haunted by the less-than-a-year curse she found
