Eight hundred years ago, Xie Lian was the Crown Prince of the Xian Le kingdom; one who was beloved by his citizens and the darling of the world. Unsurprisingly, he ascended to the Heavens at a very young age. Now, eight hundred years later, Xie Lian ascends to the Heavens for the third time as the laughing stock of all three realms. A gay fantasy novel about a fallen god and his last worshipper. You do not wanna miss it!

I've never been in love, but if it doesn't feel like what Hua Cheng and Xie Lian feel for each other, then I simply do not want it.

P.S. This is originally a Chinese web-novel; you can find a fan translation here (chapter 1-24) and here (chapter 21-the end + extras)! It's also been adapted into a (GORGEOUS) manhua which you can find here and the trailer for the donghua is out too and you can watch that here!

This story is like a pandoras box. From the outside, and the first look and experience itll look funny, heartwarming and fluffy and then when you open it and delve deep inside it youll discover the deepest abyss of angst, tears and drama yet at the same time the deepest love ever written 😭 👌

this book stabbed me (view spoiler).

I have lost the ability to function as a normal human being and I blame Xie Lian and Hua Cheng and this freaking monster of a book. MXTX is solidified as one of my favourite fantasy authors of all time and as with their previous book, I am probably going to be thinking about this one for a long, long time too

I can't believe I willingly went through this 244 chapters (+8 extras) journey but it's one of the best decisions I've ever made 100% would recommend

Part of me is thinking "this was absolutely amazing" and the other is thinking "I'm finally free" so get into this at your own risk! Don't if you're not ready to use skimming as a survival tactic when necessary, because my main and almost only criticism of this is that it never ends. At the same time, if anyone had asked me to read 1400 pages set in any of the fantasy worlds I've read in the last year, not only I would refuse, I wouldn't be able to. So, does it drag? Yes. Does it manage to work ...more

I've read this back in November but I can't find this book in goodreads to shelve and review it.

So here's a late and short review.

It's quite interesting and intriguing to have characters from the opposite side of the world, form pure sincere relationship and friendship, cooperate and join hands, defeat the evil and save the world. The evil character here has quite a clever devilish master plan, it is quite a surprise when everything has been revealed in the end. The romance part does not

tbh the author hit their stride only in this novel tbh (their third under this name.) Of course, I am jaded by the endless stream of silly/sue/sweet webnovels, so this one was a refreshing contrast. priest does the same thing where they 'allow characters to experience meaningful setbacks sans guaranteed face-slapping'. An appealing meditation on what having a savior complex as a favored son of heaven entails.

The main CP is my favorite out of mxtx's three - it's all adorable h/c plus grandly nue

not once did I think 2020 would be the year where I start reading fan translations of Chinese webnovels that are over a thousand pages but here I am? I said I wanted to read more non-English fantasy novels and I MEANT IT.

i don't know why this book is so famous but i hated reading every second of it, and that's a lot of seconds considering this book is 1,500+ pages (i'm in awe of the translators)

love exists its called hualian.

I'm honestly not ready to review this book. There's a certain feeling in my heart that, I think, did not exist before I read this novel. I could call it a certainty, certainty in real, endless, love, but that would not be accurate, because there is so much more than that. Hope, I think, is a better word. Hope in love, and hope in humanity, and hope in oneself; hope in thinking that, after all the suffering, there is something good for us. I

The final chapter of TGCF was finally translated and now the journey of waiting every day for each English translation chapter is over. It feels so bittersweet to part with this amazing book and characters! From the author of the famous Mo Dao Zu Shi/Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation, Mo Xiang Tong Xiu did it again! Absolutely marvellous! 😍

This is an epic love story about a fallen god and a demon king. It's part war story, part murder mystery, part humor, part tragedy (with a happy ending, but hoo boy do they earn it). It was funny and fun to read, not also deeply moving and full intricate details that come back around in the end. While the translations are a little lacking in nuance, the story still shines through clearly.

As far as plots go, I don't know that I've ever read a story with a plot this tight. For a book that clocks

oh my god i cant believe i finished it!!!!

i really thought books 1-3 were super meh, and i got invested only in books 4-5, which i really liked... but by then it was a bit too late. i think tgcf is my least favorite of the three mxtx novels???? i really thought it would be the opposite lmaoooo but first of all, i especially didnt like the plot of tgcf compared to sv and mdzs - if mdzs already meandered a bit too much, tgcf just felt super disjointed for two thirds of it, and exposition scenes

dnf at chapter 128.

do people really like this more than mdzs? i dont get it lol.

the mc was grating in the sense that the reader is constantly reminded of how hes such a martyr and blames himself for everything and has literally zero self-worth. it was annoying and did not fly with me at all.

i wasnt overly invested in the romance either, which is supposedly the main selling point of the novel; it had sweet moments, but ultimately wasnt emotionally satisfying. i do like hua cheng though, because

I read the first 165 chapters in a blitz. I fell in love with our Xie Lan and of course, Hua Cheng. I got into a bit of a slump and took like a 2 month break and eventually got back into the swing of it and finished it in a couple of days. The translation is not as good as MDZS, or maybe the writing wasnt? I still enjoyed it nontheless, and cried at the ending. I rarely cry while reading books but for this one I probably soaked my pillow with how much I cried.

A truly special novel. At times it

I know that a lot of people are interested in the book because of the romance between the two main characters and other couples. However, i found the book really interesting and special thanks to the author's sense of humour and her sarcastic remarks/comments on politicians and religions. I also found some animals & environmentally-friendly details that amused and attracted me.

Hundreds of years ago, Xie Lian, the Crown Prince, ascended to godhood. Then he descended back to the mortal realm. Then, he ascended once more only to descend again immediately after. Now, hes ascended for the third time. And his path as a thrice-ascended god, seeking to protect the common people, finally brings him into contact with Hua Cheng, the demonic Ghost King, who has been watching him for a long time

Eh. I've got to be honest, I loved Mo dao Zu Shi. Adored it, even. So it is understandable that I started this novel with high expectations. Everyone loved it, rarely anyone would rate it bellow 4 stars, I was convinced I was about to find my next obsession.

Nah.

The protagonist is portrayed like such a selfless martyr in pretty much the overwhelming majority of the novel that gets boring after a while, not to mention gives absolutely no depth to his character. I get it, it is mainly used for

Honestly this novel....

you will cry

Everything is so poetic and beautiful, and in certain ways, I like it more than modaozushi (and that is saying... quite a lot), because of how the relationship between Xie Lian and the love interest is. Honestly, I cried a lot reading this, because of how sweet it was, and their relationship dynamic compared to Wangxian's is so different, because Xie Lian and San Lang--- they communicate and they are so so so loyal to each other.
