This book was great! If you've read the previous two books, it's a must-read, and if you haven't? What are you waiting for? Read the first two!

In the final book in the Arlo trilogy, our hero is going to rescue his father (with the help of his friends, of course). Unlike the previous two books, this finale is action packed with everything snowballing into awesome action scenes! I was very satisfied by the end of the book with how everything came together, however I did wish that the book had been

Ive been a big fan since the first book in the series & one thing Ive enjoyed is that I havent been able to anticipate & guess where the story is going - that sense of anticipation carried through in this final (?) book of the series. I did find some plot lines clunky - wondering if I had missed or forgotten something from the second book - this will be less of an issue for middle grade readers who are likely to binge through the series rather than read the books a year apart as Ive had ...more

I am sad this is the last book about Arlo Finch. I enjoyed spending time in his world. Thank you, John August, for a great story that kept me wanting to read more.

My favorite thing about Kingdom of Shadows is how we see some actual evolution in Arlos self-esteem and confidence from the previous books. However, much of the book felt incomplete in ways, especially for a third and final installment. I wasnt as attached to the antagonists Arlo was up against, and wanted something more from his interactions with them, especially towards the end. ...more

Arlo Finch has faced - and survived - several harrowing challenges already and has discovered a special ability to navigate the Long Woods. This time he means to navigate his way through the Long Woods to China, where his father is in exile. Will he succeed in bringing his father home? And what happens then? And why are the Eldritch still after him?

I cannot say enough good things about this trilogy. Smart, based in a believable reality, with real-life consequences and well-sketched-out

A fun and fitting end to the trilogy. This third entry felt a bit rushed (this could easily have been two full-length books instead of one), but overall, Ive enjoyed my timed with this series and appreciate John Augusts decision to center Arlos internal conflicts around issues of character, integrity, and justice, giving a more substantive core to the typical coming-of-age fare. ...more

This series is not quite Harry Potter, but it's still amazing. The worldbuilding, character depth, and storytelling are all on point. I can only hope that John August continues the story of Arlo Finch. Please don't leave us wanting more.

Wow, was that a wrap? There's more that could come, but it would be a fair place to end. I've really enjoyed the series, This was a solidly exciting, well-paced, and plotted book. I will continue to encourage my students to read it and hope more will come.

I love this series.
I'm not sure what else to say about it.
The adventure continues.
A satisfying conclusion (although I would have been fine with 8 more books in the series!)
