The 8YO picked this book up out of a Goodwill bin this week. After reminding her that we were never going to have an aquarium, much less fish, no matter how much she learned about them, I let her bring it home. she's been peppering me with exotic fish facts ever since. It would be awesome, if only she'd use the common name for the fish instead of their scientific ones. The scientific names (and the associated facts) keep swimming out of my head as fast as she can read them.

Exotic Aquarium Fishes: A Work of General Reference (Innes Book 20th ed.) by William T. Innes (TFH Publications 1979)(590.7). I got this book along with my first aquarium in 1983. I memorized it, and I’ve always had healthy and successful aquariums. My rating: 8/10, finished 1983.

A classic of aquarium literature, it still holds it's own as a go-to piece of literature. Every serious aquarist should own this book, and read it backward and forward.

A very in depth read on exotic fishes, expect the full spectrum of information when indulging in this book. There is no lack of intricate information. The care of the livestock mentioned are indeed meticulously written on, this is a must for any aquarist who may be thinking of keeping or caring for exotic livestock.

This is probably the greatest book ever written on the subject of tropical aquaria. My personal bible on the subject.

Love this book. I have a very old edition, but it's great fun to read. Lots to learn and Innes is an excellent writer. Going to have to find a more recent edition.
