For more than fifty years, 7-time USA Olympic Coach Eddie Reese has mentored college men in life and swimming, resulting in 14 NCAA team titles at the University of Texas and 39 Olympic gold medals.
So many good ideas, Eddie is an amazing coach but an even better human. While it is about coaching swimming, it is also about how to be a successful coach and care for others in general
Being someone that loves swimming it was a good read. Eddie Reese is a very accomplished and well respected man. And this book clearly illustrates that. However, I was a little disappointed with the lack of substance.
A pleasant collection of memories, quotes, and photos of perhaps the greatest swimming coach of all time. My family and I had the pleasure of meeting him two months ago, 83 years young. He autographed my copy of this book (plus my daughters' kickboards) and was very kind.
A primer for the uninitiated: you know Michael Phelps, right? Well, Phelps had a coach through all those gold medals. No, that coach wasn't Eddie--it was Bob Bowman (who now happens to be the UT men's swimming head coach). Bob Bowman and his wife had a son sometime during those years. They named their son Reese. THAT'S who Eddie Reese is.
Ignite the fire in each of your swimmers from within themselves. Hook 'em.
