This is an early translation from the 1929 German book. It has a dark blue hard cover, and as far as I can tell was translated and printed in English about 1932. This book is nothing like the Walt Disney version. The hero of the book is Bambi, and his destiny is traced from a tiny fawn to a mature stag with a family. Some of the charters are his cousin Ava, and her two little fawns Gobo and Faline. Then there are Prince Ronno and Karus the young deer. also the hare, the squirrel, the old stag, the wood pecker, the screech-owl, the magpie, the crow, the doe Marena, and the wicked fox who meets his just ends from He. Now He is the only human animal in the forest. He is diabolically clever and seems to be everywhere. With a little stick in his hand that makes a loud report, he deals death that way. He kills young Gobo that way. Toward the end of the story he even shoots Bambi in the leg. But the young stag escapes, hides out and recovers. Later he falls in love with Faline, marries her and has children by her. Because the original story takes place in a German forest, the animals are different than those in the Disney version and many are not named like Disney did.
My love of reading started when i was young, and it gives me immense pleasure to provide books to Spread the Word Nevada, an organization that passes them on to children in the community. They are a terrific organization supporting an important cause. If your local I encourage you to check them out. For those living further a field, look in your own community, their may already be a similar program in place. And if not, you can always help start one.
Myself, I go out on the weekends and shop thrift store and bulk book lots to rescue books and donate them. Sometimes I'll find a book I remember reading when I was young and will read it again before passing it on.
I don't rate these books using my normal scale, instead I give most of them three stars. This isn't a Criticism of the book, simply my way of rating them as good for children.
Out of all the animated Disney movies, Bambi is towards the bottom of the list on my favorites. I just feel that it is really heavy and dark stuff for a kid to think about. Fires, guns, being lost, starving to death and losing parents. These are all scariest things that could happen to a kid. Anyways, this book is just a Disney advertisement for the movie. The kids seem to like it ok, but I don't think it is a favorite for them.
Lumayan buat calon anak nanti:))
This version is abbreviated which is in keeping with the attention span of a small child but loses a bit too much of the story. I had to modify the English. I really don't speak/read Spanish at this level so I'll leave that to the hubby.
Just as beautiful as it was when I first read it as a child. The illustrations are stunning and love the attention to details and the crisp colors. A beautiful little story of friendship and love and the forest life.
