Mora has never had an easy life. Physically and mentally abused by her mother, she's never known what being wanted or loved felt like. Her only relief? Sex, bleeding and playing the cello. And now, her new boss, Darius, has shown an interest in her character. Will Darius become another danger in Mora's life, or is he the absolution she's been internally wishing for?
This was the first book that I have read from Ebony Olson and it definitely will not be the last! Great plot and characters piqued my interest from the very first page and I was hooked until the turn of the very last page! - Pat
This is the first book in the Black Mark series, and it definitely carried a lot of weight. It was entertaining to the point where I just couldn't put it down, and I really look forward to reading the next installment. The characters in the book were really interesting and full of personality, and it made the story carry on well. I definitely recommend picking this one up! - Kelly

It's always a risk to start a book from a new author and you can have it in two ways... Love or hate it but it's always a risk. The thing that make me choose a book is the cover and also the blurb and this cover and the name gave me mixed feelings... But once I started to read it I was doomed. Ebony Olson has a dark, hot and intense writing that will give you the goose bumps and so much more. Black Mark's Resistance is the first book from the Black Mark series and it's way better than I thought... This book tell us Mora's story and let me just say that it was an intense one. Mora was severely abused by the one person who should loved her the most. Her mom abused her physically and mentally since she was a baby until the day she was given to her grandma. But she never felt safe or calm. The only way she could cope with it were through her music, through sex and bleeding... She had so many demons to bake against... How can someone so damaged move one? This story is so intense and so raw that I felt like I was choking. Not in a bad way but it was so real... The plot is amazing, breathtaking and raw and the conflicts between the characters and their demons were brutal. The drama, pain, betrayal, abuse are very present in this book as well as love, desire and second chances. There were scenes that I didn't want to red but I couldn't stop. It sounds crazy but it's the truth... And the hot scenes are freaking amazing and so explicit... Ebony if the first book was intense I can't even imagine how the next ones will be... I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Ebony Olson delivers and emotional charged read that provides intensity on a different level. The read was engaging, rich, some suspense, some drama, and well-developed character that play the plot perfectly.
Mora had a life that could only be called difficult to be nice. The distinct difference in her attracts that attention of a man that comes with his own set of complication and even danger, Darius. You will get wrapped up in this read and be waiting for the next installment.
Black Mark's Resistance is an interesting story. At first I was a bit reluctant to read it, as I wasn't sure that I would be able to handle the content. It turns out, the author has a way with words that explains everything with the right amount of intensity without it being over the top.
Mora is a personal assistant, working for Stuart. Stuart is running late from a meeting, and has asked Mora to entertain the clients until he can arrive. The client does not want to wait, so Mora makes arrangements for someone else to fill in for the meeting. The next day, the same client approaches her and insists she come work for him, along with his living arrangements. The pay is much better, so she takes on the job.
Mora, is also dealing with quite a few demons from her past. The story takes us to a place where she is able to confront these demons as she works her way through them.
Her new boss, Darius, also seems to have a few demons from his past. However, this book is primarily about Mora's story. I'm hoping that book two covers more of Darius' past, being that this book ends in a cliffhanger.
A good read. A Nice escape from reality for a few hours. I would highly recommend this book.
Book 2 - Black Mark's Secrets
Mora had had enough of her sexy boss, Darius Rafal. She couldn't handle being alone with him in his home any more, so she gave him her 2 weeks notice and said she'd be moving out in the morning. She had 2 weeks vacation time coming.
The next morning as she was at the door ready to make her way to the cab, she was caught off guard by Darius who came clean to her about his true feelings for her. Mora still had not told him who her father was, but that was not going to stop Darius from wanting to marry her.
They decided to do a quick whirlwind wedding with just family and a few very close friends. On the day of the wedding, Mora's dad was held up by bad weather. He did not know he was going to be attending her wedding, only that he was going to meet this man she had been seeing.
Mora's father arrived after the wedding ceremony had taken place, and after the wedding had been consumated - but before the reception was to start.
Does Mora's father accept her new husband? I could tell you, but then you wouldn't have any reason to read the book.
The book does end in a bit of a cliffhanger, and I am anxious for the next book to come out to see how the story continues.
In Book Three, Black Mark's Heart, we learn the fate of Mora and Darius' marriage.
In book two, we learned that after the wedding ceremony and before the reception that was broken up by her father, Mora and Darius had consummated their wedding. A few weeks after the wedding, Mora went to Darius' workplace to return his items and give him some news. But Darius did not want to see her, turning her away.
Darius' best friend picked up on the fact that Mora was pregnant and helped her leave the country by offering her a job touring with a band that includes classical music. A year later, she has another encounter with Darius and winds up pregnant again - all the while he has no idea that the first child is his as well. Mora has returned to England to be closer to her friends and family, but one of the brotherhood approaches her and threatens her. She runs off to another country without saying anything to anyone.
The story is a very emotional story, and as a reader, you are able to feel the raw emotion within. A very good read.
Mora is twenty and something workaholic. She is working with Alex as his assistant. But, one day when an arrogant, mysterious and gorgeous Darius Rafal comes in the company where she works everything gets changed. After another conversation, she becomes his PA. Mora’s past hunting her what ever she goes. Secrets, shameless affairs, drinking nights are part of her life, but everything that she does is building a fortress around her heart. The cover attracted me, I picked up this book, and I am not regretting at all, it worth it. I was reading like lunatic through the night and read the whole book. As a huge fan of romance, I can’t believe that this was the first book by Ebony Olson I’ve read. When the end came, I cursed. I can’t wait for a second and third part; it’s not fair. The story is realistic, romantic, steamy and harsh a little. It is the different romantic story of what I used to read, but I didn’t stay unmoved. It makes me cry a lot especially on some parts of Mora’s scenes. The sparkles and romance between the main characters are perceptible and vivid like I was there or like I was watching a movie. I was captivated by Mora, Alex, Darius, Warren, Jasper, Sophie and other characters. They are intelligent, young people well described and developed. Their lives are perplexed and real. I recommend this book to everyone who likes surprises while turning the pages, steamy read which is going to sweat you and makes you cry a lot. If the fact that this book reminds me of the books by Colleen Hoover helps you to decide to pick up it for your next reading journey then I can’t miss it.

O.M.G!
I absolutely love this book! I was completely mesmerized with this steamy and suspenseful story. The characters are well developed and have so much depth. The story line is refreshing and has an interesting twist to the common boss/coworker love story. I became completely engrossed and totally forgot it had a cliffhanger!
Mora is such a fascinating woman! She is not afraid to tell you what she thinks, which I love. She has so many emotions, but only expresses it through her music while playing the cello. She had a complicated childhood and we learn more as the story continues.
Darius is a bit of a mystery, which has me drawn even more to him. The sexual tension between Darius and Mora is palpable and I feel like I am holding my breath just waiting to see what will happen next.
I just can’t wait for the next book and I am looking forward to rereading this story again!
I really enjoy this book. I liked Mora a lot and this book really had me tearing up when I found out what happen to her and when Darius treated her the way she did. I'm always rooting for the main characters to get together but I was like "yeah" when Mora told him he messed up and she was done with him. I couldn't believe he did what he did and that her mother was so despicable. I thought the characters were well done and the descriptions were done well too. I really liked that it was such a fast read and I can't wait for the second book and the rest to see how this story ends.
I am a music lover, so the cover of this book caught my attention and made me want to learn more. I decided to try it out and see how much music was in the book compared to romance and such. I did find romance, I did find intrigue, and I did find music.
But I was a bit taken aback by the amount of sex and eroticism in the book. I was not expecting that and was a little shocked by it, though I am by no means a prude and have read other books of similar, or worse, nature. But I was not expecting it and was almost put off by it. I debated whether I wanted to finish or not. But I kept reading, realizing I was reading a bit more provocative of a book, and that aside, found the storyline to be good. I was intrigued. I wanted to know more. And I absolutely HATED that the book ended with a cliffhanger! I hate cliffhangers and how long it takes before the follow up is released, so hopefully this one won't be too long in coming.
The author writes freely and with little error in mechanics and grammar. I was not overly distracted by the writing style and felt it flowed smoothly.
For those who like an intense book and lots of sex, this is perfect. If that's not you, consider giving it a try regardless and see if the story itself proves itself worthy. I enjoyed it once I accepted the eroticism aspect.
Black Mark's Resistance is an interesting story. At first I was a bit reluctant to read it, as I wasn't sure that I would be able to handle the content. It turns out, the author has a way with words that explains everything with the right amount of intensity without it being over the top.

Mora is wounded, her past refusing to remain in the past haunts her every decision. Hidden behind a fortress she is left wanting as she denies her primal urges.
Darius, a multimillionaire ass, hides behind his money.
Two wounded souls embrace the professional realm while attempting to resist each other.
A line has been drawn, who will be the first to cross it and how will that impact their relationship? Or will the pain of their pasts be enough to steer clear from potential hardship?
Highly sexual, not recommended for the younger audience (18+)
Received a free review copy in exchange for an honest opinion.
This is the first book in the Black Mark series and started the series off with a bang. Very emotional read with lots of twists and surprises. Mora and Dorius are two wounded souls who bring comfort to each other. The book is well written with a strong storyline and characters with lots of depth. I voluntarily reviewed an advance copy of this book
I really enjoyed this book! While the cover is nice, the story inside was even better. It took a bit for the the story to get going in my opinion, but then it took off and left me wanting more! A great new to me author!
i really liked the storyline but unless the copy i received somehow lost the ending part there was no real ending so i m looking forward to seeing if theres another book in the series
This is the first book in the Black Mark Resistance series and a first for me by Ebony Olson. Mora was abused by her mother in almost every way possible and did not learn how to express emotions in the normal ways. She uses her cello and her boy toy to express herself and to get out her frustrations. Mora feels that she has to prove herself to the world and make her own way even though she has a very powerful father that is now a part of her life and is willing to do anything to make up for lost time. Mora take a job with Darius and it turns out to be very trying on her. She is not sure that she can do it. Not only is he a frustrating man, she finds herself very attracted to him, and she swears she will not be her mother and sleep with the boss to get ahead. Mora and her “boyfriend” end their relationship, but she does not tell anyone but her brother. Her mother is arrested for the crimes she committed against her, and Darius thinks she is going to marry her boytoy. What will happen next? This is a definite must read and I will have to read the rest of the series to know what happens between Mora and Darius.
I liked it, the characters are very well delineated, their temperaments and personalities are very well described, it has an excellent narrative. We have two protagonists who inadvertently fall in love again, although they do not know that they were already in love with each other and this in a way gives me a plus to the story. This book came to me for an honest review for inkitt. It is a good romantic novel, does not really leave you with many doubts of what happens in history. The story of the protagonists called me from the beginning, although I lost a little in the middle of the book, I really liked the female character, that to be a person who has been abused emotionally and physically, does not behave like the victim, when Would be in its right. I will not give my opinion on the male lead because for the moment I think his tortured attitude does not strike him, but that's because I do not know his whole story.
Mora didn't have a great start in life up until she was six she was physically and mentally abused by her mother then brought up by her grandma she was still traumatised but achieved so much. The way she coped with her life and stress was sex, bleeding and her music. This book is very good the story line and strong characters really take you on a journey you don't want to leave or stop. Rich, successful businessman has fun with intern but doesn't want forever, she wants a materialistic life but ends up alone and with a child she didn't want, Mora had a childhood no one should have. She has a half brother Alex and they have built a relationship over 5 years and they share the same father, Mora works at an events company it is a demanding job but she wants make her own way not by who her father is. The story, the characters they take you into a world you maybe wouldn't want to stay in but you can't help being pulled along this dramatic, suspense, deep and steamy read. I am really looking forward to reading part 2.
Holy crap!! While typically avoiding explicit materials, this one was borderline for me in that aspect. Fortunately, the REST of it was every positive adjective available; thoughtful, thought-provoking, intense, enticing, light, fun, easy, deep, enthralling, disturbing, disturbingly addictive. I would LOVE to see the continuation after recommending it to everyone I know who doesn't shy at the first hint of eroticism as I usually do; even those who do. Who knows? They may change their tune for this one like me! I will try to post the above review where I can (goodreads & amazon) and you're welcome to post it where I don't. Thank you for the ARC.
Black Mark was a an emotional 5 star read. This is book one in the Black Mark series.
I was pulled in right from the start. My heart went out to Mora for what she endured growing up. There are so many things in this story, my emotions were all over the place. There is suspense, drama, very hot erotic sex, love, and pain.
This is my first read from Ebony, you get pulled right in with the writing. The characters come right off the pages. I can't wait to read more from this series. Warning it does end in a cliff hanger.
Never a dull moment in this book. The characters were well written and the story line was well developed.I loved how the intimate scenes were thought out instead of carelessly thrown in and ruining the appeal of the book. I will most defiantly be returning for the rest of the series, I need to know how Mora and Darius handle their "relationship"
A good story. I received a copy from Inkitt for an honest review. This is a story of pain, suspense, and so much more. I am not a fan of series as they end in cliffhangers. I really liked this one as it is a story of real life and how an abused person deals with life. I recommend it.
This is the first book in the Black Mark Series as well as my first read by Ebony Olson. It is well-written, has an excellent storyline, well-developed characters and plenty of drama, suspense, pain, hope, love, and erotic scenes.
I volunteered to review an advance reader copy of this book.
I really enjoyed reading the book. The female main character was well developed. U don't really get to know much about the male main character. Though the book has plenty of background stories that lets us know more about Mora, we don't really get to know Darius. The book is the first in its series and i hope the sequel will reveal more about both characters and further develop their relationship. *ARC for honest review
I received a pdf copy of this book from Inkitt Exclusive Reads. It's a really good erotica novel with a really good storyline. I was actually surprised by how things turned out in the end. I enjoyed Ebony Olson's writing and character development. There were just a few minor holes /details that I didn't like. But overall a great read.
Mora Ellis had a loveless childhood by a mother who did not love her and then was raised by her Grandmother in Australia. To throw dirt in her mother's face she applied for a music subject at Cambridge in the UK and she was accepted. Amber's mother had the acceptance letter and a one way ticket to the UK and said you are going to live with your father at 18. 5 years later she works for her brother called Alex as an executive assistant. Amber is a workaholic, loves sex, loves playing her cello and tells you how it is without missing a heartbeat. A meeting is scheduled with the very mysterious successful businessman by the name of Darius Rafal. Mora does not give Darius the time of day as she cannot stand people who think they are better than you and are just plain arrogant. Darius Rafal came from nothing but turned that nothing into a very successful business. Darius wants Mora and offers her a deal she cannot refuse. Darius and Mora cannot be left alone as the sexual tension between the two is something that both fight very hard to ignore. This story is more about Mora and her life and how it has impacted her. Both her brother Alex and Mora took their mother's last name but share the same father. Mora does not want one bit of her father's empire but has built a very successful relationship with her father over the years with the help of her brother but a few more truths come out which has her understanding her father that little bit more and loves him unconditionally. Between Mora and Darius the working relationship has become hard for the two and a little slip up here and there has resulted to Mora putting her wall up and built a barrier that is now strictly professional. You can see throughout the story that Darius is torn but holds it together. But you can see that Darius and Mora share something that neither of them are able to share. It's like they are scared. This story will leave you on a cliffhanger and you'll picking up the second installment to this fantastic story. No doubt you can read this story in one sitting. You received this ARC provided by the author/ publisher in exchange for an unbiased opinion. No type of compensation was made. There is no relationship/affiliation between the reviewer and the author/publisher.
This is a voluntary and honest review for an advanced copy.
This is the first book i have read from this author so i was not sure what to expect, i can honestly say i was not disappointed. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this first part of the series, once i started i could not put the book down.
The main characters had a raw realness to them. Some of the subject matter is tough and the coping mechanisms for Mora are a hard read but the author has not gone into too much detail, just enough so that you get a clear picture of who she is. I loved her strength, her straight forwardness and the fact that she knows who she is. She is damaged but still has a kind heart, a no nonsense attitude.......Until Darius. Darius obviously has his own issues but you are not told about them in this first part of the series. He likes to be in control but has found his match in Mora and does not like the fact that he can't quite work her out.
I like the writing style of this author, it is smooth and to the point. No repetitiveness or inane filling-in. The interaction between all the characters is believable and easy to read. The friendships and family issues, both good and bad, feel real and believable.
This first part in the series does not end on a cliffhanger as such but you are left wanting more and you absolutely have to know what happens next.
I would definitely recommend this, even though i have only read the first part! As soon as i have posted this review i am going to get the rest of the series.
This is the first book I read in this series, and I’ll definitely want to read the rest of them. It's a charming and mystic story with a cliffhanger. The characters are passionate, intense, quiet but strong. The story deals with realistic problems and growing up not love but being able to over come it and becoming a better person for it. The emotions is hard sometimes and soft other times. It will make you sad with tears on your face sometimes but it can make you smile. I need to read the other parts to get the feel of the whole story. The main characters are Mora and Darius but all of the supporting characters help with balancing the story. But it's a cliffhanger so there isn't a end. This is the part that I didn't like I don't mind a cliffhanger but I like it to end on a high note. The part I didn't is when you don't know there are other parts before I get to read the end.
I loved this book so much. I was unsure of what to expect but I was so caught up that I read it in one day. Mora is so unlike the love struck damaged heroines I am used to. She is young but knows what she wants and does what she needs to get it. Darius is head strong and determined. I figured out that they had met before pretty early in the story but I was worried that neither of them would be willing to admit it. Their love is explosive and yet tender. I was rooting for them all along the way. The secondary characters are also likable. I would love to have more story on the brothers and ALex. Maybe even Sophie. My only complaint is we are not told what the title means in this book. I was left wanting more of Mora and Darius's story. I am looking forward to book 2 and 3. I got an ARC from Inkitt.
I received a copy in exchange for an honest review.
This was a nice start to what I hope to be a great series. Although I am tired of cliffhangers in series', this one sets up the story for the next book very nicely.
Strong and independent Moira hides behind a wall she put up while multi millionaire Darius hides behind his money. We don't get to learn all that much about him in this book and I hope that changes with the next book.
Moira is a very likable character and you really feel for her.
The book is well written and weaves suspense, drama, eroticism, love and pain together very well.
I am looking forward to the next book.
I also like the cover of the book. The colours and posing work well together and it fits nicely with the book.
*I was fortunate enough to receive this ebook as a part of Inkitt Reviewer Programme in exchange for an honest review*
What the hell just happened?! I NEED THE SECOND PART RIGHT NOW! This ended at a cliffhanger.
This book was off to a good start and I developed an interest in what the author had to offer but when I reached the middle of the book, I was ready to die. It dragged on and got a little boring but the some of the elements kept me reading it.
I liked the characters, their stories, their backstories. Darius Rafal is a sexy beast (inappropriate but needed) and Mora Ellis was such a stupid and confused person. The book ended at a cliffhanger which was somewhat expected since it's a trilogy. But I cannot wait for the second part not because I liked the book but the ending was abrupt so I need to know what happens next!!
