This adorable children’s story features colorful and unique artwork and an important message.

With a fairytale feel, Brianna Tibetts tells a story of danger, courage, and doing what is right. And even more, a story that shows what’s seen on the outside of a person doesn’t always reflect the status of their heart.

If you’re looking for something new to read at bedtime with your child(ren), The Knight in Battered Armor is a wonderful option. Moms and Dads will definitely want to read to young ones a

⚔️ The Knight in Battered Armor is a story of bravery and putting others before yourself. It portrays a strong moral compass that teaches the importance of helping others without motives or expectations. I highly recommend this adorable middle grade book to kids and adults who love fairytales and unlikely heroes.

My daughter, Jane, read this book and love it. Here is her review:

I liked the whole thing. But my favorite part is when they saved the day and got married.

Princess Melina is kind and compassionate, her parents are wise and want to help her find a suitable husband. Then one of Melina's would-be suitors kidnaps her and locks her up in a tower. Many knights attempt to rescue her, but only one has the courage to face the beast holding her captive.

Though battered and well-worn on the outside, it is up to the courageous man inside the distressed armor to free Princess Melina.

Brianna Tibbets tells the story of a knight in battered armor (James) who behaves like a knight in shining armor. In this fairy tale, the hero is not a knight but the son of a knight who wears his father’s old armor to go fight the monster who has taken Princess Melina. The story reminds me of the fairy tales of old, with knights fighting for justice and winning the hand of a beautiful princess in the process. The story is different from old fairy tales in that, James has no desire for reward. I ...more

I have two sons, ages ten and fourteen, and decided to read one chapter a night to them before bed. Honestly, I was afraid they'd stick their noses up in the air and Mom would be forced to go sulk and read it alone. But they enjoyed it! Even begged each night to read more than one chapter. For this momma who realizes her days forming these sort or memories are numbered, it was something I deeply treasured. At one point in the fight scene, they grabbed their toy swords and fought each other while ...more

The Knight in Battered armor is an early chapter book with plenty of pictures to still feel like a picture book. It reads like a fairy tale, with the valiant knight going after the ferocious monster to save the princess. What was unique though, was that it was his heart, humility and selflessness that set him apart from the others and not simply his sword-fighting skills. He didn't save the princess to prove his own superiority but his honest concern for the princess' well-being.

The Knight and Battered Armor has so much to entertain your child, whether it is a child old enough to read, or a child who enjoys being read to. In this story you will find a nice and beautiful princess, castles but also battles because there are people who dont want to do the right thing. I think you will find this story will have something all ages can learn from because it teaches rights from wrongs in a way children of all ages can understand.

And the graphics take up the entire pages and t

My kids are getting old enough that they like to sit and listen to me read them longer books, so the length of this one was perfect! I enjoyed the story of Princess Melina and James. It got a little intense for the kids at time, with the villain, but it is an excellent story of character. It brings up some good discussion points on doing the right thing, even when its tough. This is a great story to read with grade school and middle school age kids. The illustrations were a bit more cartoonish t ...more

The Knight in Battered Armor by Brianna Tibbetts and illustrated by Liz Stockton is a fun and fairytale-like story that young readers will thoroughly enjoy. The pictures are simple, but bright and colorful, bringing to life the story of a knight on a quest to save a princess. This story teaches children about always doing what is right now matter what in an entertaining and fun format. This is an excellent books for parents to use as a teaching tool too. This was a sweet story of integrity, kindness and selflessness. The Princess Melina had the biggest heart, which you can see throughout the story as she gets ready to sacrifice herself and any future happiness to save her people while they’re being threatened. And James (our Knight in Battered Armor) goes to help rescue the princess, not because of money or marrying her, but because she needs him and he just wants to help free her (and he’s never even met her!). I really enjoyed this story and a ...more

The Knight in Battered Armor by Brianna Tibbetts was such a cute story! It’s themes of courage, honor, and simply doing the right thing even when it’s not the easy thing (in this case, even in the face of terrible danger) are the morals that kids (and even adults) need more of these days. Although parts were somewhat predictable, I thoroughly enjoyed the quick read, and the illustrations by Liz Stockton were so adorably fun and unique! I highly recommend to anyone who has children or simply enjo ...more

This children’s story with castles, a monster, battles, and a princess has a message for all ages. Quirky, colorful illustrations enliven the pages, but the tale itself doesn’t need any pictures. You can see it in your head. The text sometimes winds through the drawings, and in some places the white font is hard to read. I recommend getting an actual book because on a kindle the text is small and each page has to be enlarged for easier reading. Plus, a physical book is much better for sharing wi ...more

This is a "totes cutez" read! I loved the artwork/pictures throughout, and the characters were charming -- and not just the knight, though he is my favorite. ;) Middle-grade readers will enjoy working through the book, and earlier readers will enjoy the pictures as they work toward getting the text.

This is one parents would even enjoy reading -- and rereading -- to their children. A book for the whole family! Much like anyone can enjoy Toy Story, the whole family will enjoy this one and get some

A children's chapter book with a great lesson. I enjoyed the stylized drawings and message, plus it has a great title! In my opinion, the vocabulary was too advanced for younger kids. However, I think it would be perfect for advanced readers or kids 10+. Definitely recommending this one! ...more

Great book for your older elementary readers. It has a great theme within it of doing what's right no matter the cost or what others say.

Cute, easy to read, just enough suspense to keep kids enthralled. Definitely, a must read. I really appreciated what great lessons it was teaching.

Plus boys really love to read about knights and battles! I have three boys in the age range of 10-12 so this was a hit at our house! I received an ecopy of this book so I read it out loud to my kids. Both girls and b

I received this book from JustRead Tours. Opinions shared are mine.

The Knight in Battered Armor is illustrated in a way that will appeal to younger ones, but the story is one that older kids will appreciate.

The vocabulary in this story is quite advanced. For example, terms such as “slick stranger” and “dramatic flair that demanded attention” might be too nuanced for the younger crowd. Most toddlers won’t recognize the word “decimate.” You could use this as an opportunity to teach your child ho

The Knight in Battered Armor was a actually a very cute story. The characters were all very memorable and I thought that the writing style was very fit for a younger audience. The only complaint I have about it is the rather large words used throughout the story. As an older reader, I personally didn't mind them, but I kept on thinking that no young child would be able to understand some of the words. As I said above, it was a cute story with some very good themes that I think are good for young ...more

This is a great read aloud for kids just before bedtime. The pictures are bold and colorful. The themes of courage and character are great for kids to hear just before falling asleep.
It definitely has the fantasy feel with a villain, the brave hero, and a captured princess. I don't know if older children who are very good readers would be interested in this book, but I do think the reading level is a little to high for younger grades.

Over all this is a great read aloud.

I thought this book was a cute children's story. It wasn't simply your typical knight and princess rescue tale. I really enjoyed that the characters displayed a lot of admirable qualities that made this story more unique and meaningful than the typical fairy tale rescue. Themes of courage, self sacrifice, loyalty and teamwork were very visible in The Knight in Battered Armor. The bright illustrations and an quirky names of the characters were another feature of this book that made it really memo ...more

A delightful story with fun illustrations, The Knight in Battered Armor is sure to please school-aged children, and maybe even their parents too.

The princess, her parents have decided, needs a husband and when they put out the word prospective suitors could apply for the position, numerous characters show up. I say characters because these guys are just not the kind of guys a parent, even a king and queen, would want for their child. When one suitor takes matters into his own hands by kidnappin
