Have you ever wanted to be a twin? I always thought it would be fun someone to share your whole life with, A forever playmate a constant BFF. I imagine I have idealized this relationship, I’m certain there are difficult parts of this as well. Always being seen as part of a pair rather than an individual, trying to find your own path in life separate from your twin. This book was about identical twins Maggie and Marta The girls are now in their late 20s and trying to find their way in the world.

Maggie's Ruse by Anne Leigh Parrish is quite a unique little book and even though it wasn't exactly what I was expecting, it was interesting.
What it's about: Maggie and Marta are identical twins living together in New York City. Maggie is a struggling artist, while Marta is a struggling actress. A quick and compulsive read, this is one I don’t think I’d normally gravitate to but the way it was written really pulled me in!

Maggie’s Ruse is a story about identical twins Maggie and Marta. They come from money but are struggling in their own careers with Maggie as an artist, and Marta as an actress hoping to make it in their respective careers. Just as the title of this book suggests, Maggie Plays a ruse and impersonates Marta, and this causes a big problem between them. There is a deep message in the story that deals with family, sisterhood, and identity which I found to be an enjoyable read.
I have always been interested in twins, which made this book especially exciting for me! I always imagined it would be so fun to have someone who looked just like you that you could share everything with. When the opportunity for me to review this book for a Booksparks pop-up tour came along, I couldn’t miss the chance!

I JUST found out that the author has written about the Dugan family in earlier works. That, to me, makes a big difference. I felt that the family was mentioned often, but only illustrated some background.

If you are a fan of sisterhood stories with drama and revelations, you may find this one to be a great book to get into.
We follow twins on the brink of. Even though they are both struggling in their careers, their lives take a turn for the worse as one of them decides to pull a ruse leaving the other on her way out the door.

Double trouble. Those are two words you hear often when you are a twin. I would know because I am a twin! Maggie's Ruse is an insightful look at one of the most unique bonds between a set of twins.

Interesting quick read about the relationship between identical twin sisters Maggie and Marta, centered around a ruse that Maggie put on in which drove them apart. I enjoyed this character-driven novel set in NYC and the friendships within the sisters’ circle of friends. I look forward to reading more by the author.
This book was such a fun insight into a pair of twins, trying to navigate New York together. I really don’t know why, but as I was reading this it kind of made me think of the whole Caroline Calloway situation, anyone else?
