Maggie's Ruse by Anne Leigh Parrish is quite a unique little book and even though it wasn't exactly what I was expecting, it was interesting.
What it's about: Maggie and Marta are identical twins living together in New York City. Maggie is a struggling artist, while Marta is a struggling actress. When Maggie pretends to be Marta when a man drops by their apartment, her ruse is quickly discovered, and it causes a fracture between the twins. Because of this and more Maggie decides to move out ...more

A quick and compulsive read, this is one I don’t think I’d normally gravitate to but the way it was written really pulled me in!
Picture-perfect identical twins Maggie and Marta Dugan are the epitome of the millennial stereotype. Born into privilege, the twins are supported financially by their father as they live in New York City and pursue their own creative pathways. Maggie considers herself a creator of the visual arts, while Marta is an aspiring actress. At the age of 27 (which as many of us ...more

Maggie’s Ruse is a story about identical twins Maggie and Marta. They come from money but are struggling in their own careers with Maggie as an artist, and Marta as an actress hoping to make it in their respective careers. Just as the title of this book suggests, Maggie Plays a ruse and impersonates Marta, and this causes a big problem between them. There is a deep message in the story that deals with family, sisterhood, and identity which I found to be an enjoyable read.

I have always been interested in twins, which made this book especially exciting for me! I always imagined it would be so fun to have someone who looked just like you that you could share everything with. When the opportunity for me to review this book for a Booksparks pop-up tour came along, I couldn’t miss the chance!

Identical twins Maggie and Marta Dugan share an apartment in Manhattan’s fashionable West Village. Their closets are filled with designer clothing, but their picture-perfect lives are a sham. Maggie is an artist who can’t get galleries to exhibit her paintings. Marta is an actress who’s finding it difficult to get roles. I read this book as part of a pop-up tour! Though it was sent for free I want to provide an honest review.
Maggie and Marta Dugan live together in NYC. In a moment of impulse, Maggie pretends to be her sister, and events start to unfold in two different directions.
I JUST found out that the author has written about the Dugan family in earlier works. That, to me, makes a big difference. I felt that the family was mentioned often, but only illustrated some background.

Parrish’s fourth novel Maggie’s Ruse follows the lives of identical twins, Maggie and Marta, and it is a well-written novel you are unlikely to put down.
Both young women are living together, as they always have done, in New York, attempting to make something of themselves. Maggie is an artist and Marta is a fledging actress. The dynamic between them dramatically shifts, however, when Maggie spontaneously decides not to correct someone when they mistake her for Marta. For the first time, their ...more

Two identical twins, identical in looks but definitely not identical in personality (or morals). Maggie, the artist, starts the "ruse" from the title. She kisses someone who thinks she is her sister. That starts the tale where the sisters separate to make their own lives.
This is a novel about twenty-somethings but sometimes I got the feeling that Maggie was an old soul. I enjoyed watching her artistic focus change and mature. I started out not connecting or even liking Maggie, but as the novel ...more

If you are a fan of sisterhood stories with drama and revelations, you may find this one to be a great book to get into.
We follow twins on the brink of. Even though they are both struggling in their careers, their lives take a turn for the worse as one of them decides to pull a ruse leaving the other on her way out the door.

Double trouble. Those are two words you hear often when you are a twin. I would know because I am a twin! Maggie's Ruse is an insightful look at one of the most unique bonds between a set of twins.

Interesting quick read about the relationship between identical twin sisters Maggie and Marta, centered around a ruse that Maggie put on in which drove them apart. I enjoyed this character-driven novel set in NYC and the friendships within the sisters’ circle of friends. I look forward to reading more by the author.

This book was such a fun insight into a pair of twins, trying to navigate New York together. I really don’t know why, but as I was reading this it kind of made me think of the whole Caroline Calloway situation, anyone else?
