I’ve been burned by my ex-fiancée and sentenced myself to long shifts at the hospital ever since. There’s no way I’d give anyone else the opportunity to break my heart again.

Until chance brings me face to face with the girl from my past.

Danielle is still as beautiful as ever, and seeing her reminds me of how I felt about her—how I still feel about her.

But she’s changed. I can see it when I look into her eyes. It’s like she’s no longer living, but merely existing. An enigma laden with secrets from her past—secrets that are forcing her to run from me. Only this time, I won’t let her get away so easily.

I’m determined to peel away every layer of secrets she carries around her, and to protect her from whatever it is that’s causing her to run.

Danielle Reynolds will not slip through my fingers again.

This time…she stays.

Geeky Queer Romance.

Katherine McIntyre is a feisty chick with a big attitude despite her short stature. She writes stories featuring snarky women, ragtag crews, and men with bad attitudes—high chance for a passionate speech thrown into the mix. As a genderqueer geek who’s always stepped to her own beat, she’s made it her mission to write stories that represent the broad spectrum of people out there. Easily distracted by cats and sugar.

Her roots were torn away when a monster was determined to murder both herself and her mother. Hiding, on the run, and in the Witness Protection Program, Danielle Reynolds has returned to the last place she called home, but that was many years and many names ago. She is a woman on a mission to take back her life or die trying. She never expected to run into the man she once loved when they were both teens and she never thought he could see through her disguise, her hardened edges or her secrets to the heart that still wanted him. Is Adrian willing to stand by her through the worst of times, even when he vows to protect her at any cost?

A second chance romance that could end before it really begins, TAKING ROOT by Katherine McIntyre takes romantic suspense to a higher plane with horrific truths that are unfathomable.

Enjoy the highpoints, the chemistry, Adrian’s quirky family and watch Danielle begin to see hope in a future she could only dream of. Lots of tension, dark and heartbreaking secrets, all tempered by power of love and trust in another. Excellent reading!

I received a complimentary ARC edition from Katherine McIntyre!

"...the years grew what once existed there from a couple seeds to a wild tangle of vines that bound them together."

Wildly romantic second chance romance with a huge twist!! I loved Adrian so hard, he was flawed, real, and adorably imperfect. From his wild family, to his PIA ex, his calm strength and off the charts attraction to Danny was only outshined by their hysterical banter. There was only one point where I was curious to why the characters did what they did, but for only 2 seconds before I was swept away in the hotness, the thrills, the incredibly vivid flow of the story. The last quarter of the story had me glued with my heart racing, brought tears to my eyes, and swooned so hard at the end!! I loved it and fingers crossed we get to meet more of Adrian's siblings because they were so incredibly endearing!! I thank the Author for providing a copy to review!!

"Danny Reynolds coursed new hope through his veins, whisky warmth and honeyed surrender all at once."

TAKING ROOT is the first book in the Eros Tales, and this promises to be a fantastic new series.

Danny's life was turned upside down when she was seventeen. Since then, she has travelled the States, never setting down roots, and never knowing when she will be moving on. She is sent to a town so very close to where she grew up, knowing the risks she will have to take if she meets anyone she once knew. She wasn't counting on the steadfast stubbornness of one Adrian Dukas though.

This was brilliantly written, showing Danny's loneliness and the trials and tribulations she has lived through, without it detracting from the current set up. Also, you get enough details about her father to make it horrific, without it going into information overload. There were no editing or grammatical errors that disrupted my reading, and I found the pacing to be very smooth. With no plot holes I fell through, this was a gripping story from start to finish.

I loved the Dukas family, and I sincerely hope we will be seeing more of them. Absolutely recommended by me.

There's nothing I love better than a second-chance romance, and this book delivers all that AND MORE. These two are an epic couple, with secrets you won't see coming. Definitely my new favorite from Katherine. FIVE STARS!

Love the strong female characters in this book.

Danny, the heroine of this story, is an amazingly strong character who has dealt with a lot of turmoil in her life. This is a second chance romance with an undercurrent of suspense. Adrian, the love interest, is a sweetheart. His family are raucous, nosy and completely loveable. Overall this is a decent story with good character development and a forward moving plot. There are times with the author tends to get repetitive and brings up the same points over and over again. Unfortunately this made the story drag at times when it should have been gaining in suspense. There are times when less can be more and I feel that is the case with this book.

This was so much more than just a second chance romance, nope this was riddled with angst, mystery, and suspense.
There was so much that could have put paid to the connection between Adrian and Danielle before they even had the opportunity to really find their stride. There was true heartache in the story that I hadn’t anticipated and that caught the emotion in the back of my throat forcing an involuntary gasp as times, this is one of those books that when read in company you will undoubtedly have to continually apologise to your companions for the ministrations…I fidgeted and gasped and groaned so often I could feel my husband silently rolling his eyes at me!
Adrian was perfectly imperfect, and I don’t often say that about a guy but in this case, it was definitely true. He had his quirks and flaws, but I liked that about him, it kept him and his characterisation realistic. Oh, and his family well they were a blast, not entirely the Brady bunch but they certainly added colour to the storyline.
Danielle has a story to tell, a past that has shaped her present and has the power to destroy her future but she has been on the back foot for long enough and now she is ready to stand her ground and reclaim the life she really wants. But can she get what she desires or will the demons that have had her running scared for so long be enough to keep her from achieving her goals?
Her time in witness protection is done, she is done and she takes the bold step to go home…foolish or brave you make up your own mind, for me I was rooting for her she had suffered enough and I was practically whooping when she determined to live a life that nobody thought possible. She never expected anyone really to see through the steps she had taken to start over but then again, she never expected to meet the guy she had loved as a teenager either…and there was no way that Adrian wouldn’t have recognised her, he would know her anywhere and just like back then there is nothing he isn’t prepared to do for her…and her situation might just call on him to prove that statement!
Adrian was willing to be by her side no matter what the world had left to throw at her and I applaud him for that but darn it they had so much to overcome that at times I was skeptical as to why he would want too!
As the horrors that the author riddled through the story unfolded, I was gobsmacked, the details and vivid descriptions left no stone unturned in the author pursuit of what can only be described as excellent. I read with an anticipation that was electrifying, I flipped pages like a dervish and reached for the tissues on significantly more than one occasion.
This was a second chance thriller like no other and I loved it, I only hope to get a little more of Adrian, Danny, and the others at a later date!

With the flawless credentials provided by the U.S. Marshals, Danielle (“Danny”) Reynolds was hired as the new gardener by the Horntree family. Done for the day, she answered the call from her handler, Eve Jensen, who reported that the FBI had spotted her father in Chicago and was tracking him. Although placing her close to her childhood home this time was risky, Eve told her to let them know if anyone recognizes her and they’ll pull her out. They promised her she would be safe, but she wouldn’t believe it until her father was rotting behind bars.

She stepped into a small bar for a drink. But a big guy sat beside her, checking out her body and trying to buy her a drink. She told him she was not interested, but he continued to press. When he grabbed her wrist tightly, she hauled off and punched him with the other fist. Both the bartender and a stranger she hadn’t seen come in moved in to offer support, but the guy finally left. As the stranger introduced himself as Adrian Dukas, it was no longer necessary – he had been the guy she cared most about when the marshals pulled her out of high school!

This is a fantastic story that puts the reader on the edge of the seat immediately in learning Danny’s situation. In the Witness Protection Program, she has not had a normal life, being moved around to keep her alive. She was not expecting to run into her long-ago past, nor expecting him to recognize her. Will he try to reconnect with her? Can she dare start to hope for a real life again?

Great story line with comfortable pacing, wonderful characters! This is not an easy book, but it’s one that will stay with you for a long time. You truly won’t want to skip this one. Highly recommended!

I rarely read the blurb for books by my ever-growing list of go-to authors, so with this being a Katherine McIntyre story, I just started at page one, being pretty certain I was going to like it. Imagine my surprise when I found no magic, no Fae, no shifters. What? Did I open the wrong book? Nope. Ms McIntyre has thrown something new into the game - normal people. By that time, I was already invested in this story and its characters. So, yes, Danny and Adrian are normal, at least in terms of magic. Their story is anything but. They've been given a second chance, one of my favorite tropes, but Danny's secrets could very well destroy everything, both figuratively and literally.Taking Root is a great mix of suspense and steamy romance, and it's everything I've come to expect from this author - a gripping storyline, terrific characters, a big bad that will not only give you chills, it will make you wonder about the so-called regular people in regular houses all around you, and fantastic writing that creates a story you can't put down. This first in the series has set the bar high for what's to come and kept me turning pages long past bedtime.

★ Danielle, a girl who has his past, present, and future hearts ★

—>>> Danielle and Adrian have a chance of a lifetime to continue on the connection forged between them during their high school years, but then she disappears from his life, only to resurface as a new Danielle who comes with a whole set of strict conditions. These frustrate Adrian and his hopes to have and keep her in his life beyond her initial arm’s length. He wants so much more, but Danielle knows that she cannot offer her heart to him, though he unknowingly already owns it. Great story, with a slow-build suspenseful storyline.

Danny has been kept from her hometown for years. When she finally comes home, the first person she runs into is her first love Adrian.. Is Danny the same girl he used to know? Danny is keeping secrets. Scary secrets. She doesn't want to lie to Adrian, but telling him the truth is not something she can do.. Adrian wants her secrets and her future. She wants to stay really bad, but her past is catching up with her.

Danielle Reynolds is not who she is pretending to be. She is on the run and hiding from her father, but has somehow managed to end in her childhood neighborhood, working as a gardener for a rich family. She completely transformed herself, but it doesn't work for long for her because her past catches up to her and his name is Adrian. The story pulls you in. Good and captivating read. The characters are not your typical contemporary romance ones. It was refreshing to read a book were the female character has a strong personality and is not afraid to stand up and fight.

Danny’s a strong female character. She was always ready for whatever life threw at her. She had to be. Adrian was a hopeless romantic--my favorite characteristic in a male character. It was a perfect combination between the two.

Their interactions and chemistry were explosive. If you love intense romances, crack open the pages of Taking Root.

I received Taking Root for an honest review through the review opportunity at Xpresso Book. Thank you.

Taking Root is the first book in The Eros Tales series and it’s a second chance romance.

Taking Root is the story of Danielle and Adrian Dukas. Danielle Reynolds is a young woman whose life is changed irrevocably in her teens years when she finds out the truth about her family. She was on the run for years and now she is back in her hometown.

When she left her hometown, she left behind a Adrian Dukas, her friend, and her first love. When she meets again Adrian, she gives him the chance to be part of her life even if she knows that she only can give him her present.

Adrian Dukas is a doctor who loves his profession and after ex-fiance left him, he focused only on his job and his family. He was happy with his life until he sees again a Danielle, the girl who disappeared from his life without any explication. He loved her and now he wants the chance to get to know her again.

Adrian wanted to be part of her life and to build a future with her but, she refused him because of her past. After Adrian, finds out the truth about her past, he agrees to help her to confront her past and to help her to have a normal life and to fight for her future.

When she was free of her past, she chooses to make a life with Adrian and begin a new life in her hometown. Danielle deserved to have a home and to build a life with the man she loves.

I enjoyed the book Taking Root.
