A delightful, cleverly written story following real-life 17th writer, playwright and spy(!) Aphra Behn who meets the 12th Doctor when he travels back in time to fix literature (which I love as a concept). She's great and has entertaining rapport with 12, who is portrayed very closely to the broadcast version.

If you love the 12th Doctor era and miss it (like I do) I would absolutely recommend. Or if you want to get into Big Finish but don't know where to start.
You know, if the current Doctor Who showrunners ever want to do more with their historical female figures than just use them as a check box to show how woke they are, but then do nothing with them within the story - maaaaybe they ought to give Lizbeth Myles a call. Because after the rather disappointing use of Ada Lovelace and that other English spy lady that I can’t remember her name from the 2-part premiere of this latest season, going back to Big Finish and being reminded that there are still ...more

Of the (for now) three Short Trips adventures featuring the Twelfth Doctor, this one ended up being my favorite. Which is saying something, because I have been so utterly charmed by each offering.

I think I loved the intimacy of this one. No alien worlds, no epic apocalyptic catastrophes. Just the Doctor insinuating himself into a simple (but vital) historical event, driving his newly-met, one-off Companion crazy ... and quietly performing an act of temporal repair. This one uses time travel not

A delightful small adventure with the Doctor and Aphra Behn (playwright, poet, author, and spy). I was unfamiliar with Aphra Behn, so on top of The Astrea Conspiracy being an absolute joy to listen to, I got to learn about a fascinating historical figure that I look forward to learning more about.

Neve McIntosh’s performance is fantastic too. She captures the spirit of the Twelfth Doctor beautifully on top of her excellent performance as Aphra Behn.

I don’t listen to too many Short Trips releases

I’ve been waiting for a chance to see the 12th Doctor in Big Finish. He suffered from some abysmal writing in the series and I was hoping for a big improvement with BF’s typically superior writing. Unfortunately, I did not get it here. The story was little more than a negligible and hand-wavy background for banter and a bit of action. In that way much like the series. Admittedly, it’s a companionless short so I’m hoping this isn’t going to be indicative of future efforts but it’s a disappointmen ...more

I'm guessing that this takes place somewhere between series 9 and 10. Aphra Behn recounts the time when she met The Doctor. The narration is fine, but the arguing between the two got kind of annoying. I'm hoping for a time when we might actually hear Capaldi in one of these audios, though I know the Companion Chronicles are always narrated by whoever plays the companion. ...more
