I really enjoyed this book. The premise of this story is what really drew me in. Stories involving hit men can be quite entertaining but a hit man who learns that his next target is himself sounded like something that I needed to have in my life. It was really easy to slip into this book and I found it to be a wonderful listen.

Charley is a lot of things. He is a husband and a father living a pretty average life. Except for the fact t

Charlie has a good life, a nice family, wonderful wife and money to live comfortably in a nice area. But he has a little secret, he is in the 'family' business- following his father who used him on 'contracts' from a young age. He is a 'problem fixer', a person calls an agency and pays money for their problem to disappear, then Charlie is notified and takes care of it!
Unbeknownst to him his wife has started to wonder about his job, which he never tells her anything about, and finds a license w

I loved the unusual if not unique premise of this book, in that a hit man who is hired to kill himself! But to me there was too much irrelevant babble, just trying to pad the book out. The only time, the story felt “tighter” was the last 20% or so. I know the main character is a hit man and therefore not necessarily a “nice” man, but I didn’t really feel any connection, and part of me wished someone would hurry up and kill him. Would of shortened the book!

If the ending had been good then it may

Peter Thompson's third book Hit Me grabbed me from the start and held me tightly to the end. Once again he has put together a well written suspense novel with well written characters you can't help but like. Charley, the book's "hero"/ narrator is a professional hit man who received his next hit. The problem is he is the hit. Charley may be a killer but I couldn't help but like him and of course root for him. The story is fast paced, clearly written, at the right times suspenseful. Peter Thompso ...more

A good thriller for a lazy rainy afternoon. Charley is a loving family man who on the front is a free lance consultant . The twist being though, he is an assassin for hire , who did not choose the profession rather the profession chose him as his father introduced him to this at an early age of 6. He is good , secretive and elusive at his work, the problem arises when he receives his next hit details : himself. Now he has to trace back to find out who has ordered the hit , which is difficult as ...more
Another great thriller from Peter Thompson! This is my 3rd Thompson novel and I have enjoyed them all, though I did enjoy The Runaway just a tad more than this one. The thing I liked most about this book is that Charley could be an unreliable narrator. The story had me guessing for most of the book; did Charley have his facts straight or was he really a bit deluded, walking that thin line of insanity? That suspense had me glued to the story.

The ladies are few and far between in this novel and re

I just finished Hit Me by Peter Thompson. My mind is still reeling.

Hit Me is a suspenseful thriller about a "fixer of problems" named Charley Fieldner. He is an average looking man, a husband, a father, a brother...and he just happens to kill people for a living, for the Agency. Charley is a very likeable guy, one you would trust to coach your kids in soccor or have over for a barbeque with your family. I found myself assigning Charley as the victim in this book and rooting for him.

"To life: the taking and the giving."
Charles Fieldner is a fortunate man. He has a beautiful wife, whom he loves, two children, a girl and a boy, who love him, a nice home, and the income to maintain a comfortable lifestyle for them all. And as he approached 40 he'd started to think about retiring even though he's still good at his job - as a contract killer. Then the Agency contacted him with the information on his next target: himself. He has two weeks to find out who w

I have never read a book quite like this before. The plot immediately grabbed my interest: the story is told in the first person by an assassin who gets his assignments anonymously from an agency on the deep web. His latest assignment: himself. Finding out who wants him dead and why and of course protecting himself from any other hit men assigned the job, occupies all his time and attention. His personal life immediately takes a hit as he is unable to play the role as consultant, husband and fat ...more

This thriller started with a great plot, being hired to kill... himself. Then, throughout the story we discover our killer is not exactly the cool and methodical stereotype, but an emotional guy that keep making hasting decisions. This gave the story a fun undertone, even thought it is a good thriller with lots of action, suspense and interesting characters.
There are some plot decisions that bother me a bit, even though I found the ending interesting.

Hit Me is a clever, compelling book with great central premise. Well-written, unexpected, and with great pace, it draws the reader effortlessly through its twists and turns, unfolding to a really satisfying conclusion.
It’s a thriller and a mystery and a roller-coaster ride : you’ll not be disappointed and you’ll want your friends to read it too. But you may find, as I did, that it stays with you longer than that. Beneath the central premise is another killer move: this contract killer isn’t the

This book grabs your attention from the first page to the last. Charley Fieldner is a hired killer. He obviously doesn't use his real name with the agency. The agency contacts him through the dark web and gives him his assignments. One day, he receives an assignment to kill Charley Fieldner. He is supposed to kill himself? Who would want him dead? He only has a certain amount of time to get the job done, so it's a race against time to find out who is behind this hit contract. In the process, his ...more

A hitman's next hit comes in, and its himself? Charley is seemingly a normal guy, he has a family he deeply cares for, he just has a secret side to himself that he feels he keeps contained but inevitably his two worlds begin to collide and both begin to suffer. He has no choice but to question everyone in his life that means the most to him.
Normally I am not a fan of books that are told in the first person but in this particular story I think it works out to the reader's benefit because the rea

This is a great novel. I loved everything about it right from the basic premise of the story: a hit man gets a contract to kill… himself?! I was looking forward to reading it and I was not disappointed. It has everything from action, fights, mystery, even a bit of ‘whodunnit’ to love and family life all mixed up in one book. Peter J Thompson has managed to weave all these elements together nicely creating a character that is full of life (at least for now?). This is all wrapped up in a tale cram ...more

Me? I’m seriously into family values so this is a book for me. Our guy’s a nice husband, nice dad, nice son, lives in a nice house and minds about all the right things. OK, so work-life balance is a bit of a problem. Maybe he should have gone into some other line of work. But it’s like all those demanding, unpopular jobs: somebody’s got to do them.

After all, where would folk be if they couldn’t get a contract killer when they needed one?

Poor Charley. Contract killing is complicated enough at th

A bit hit and miss for me. The narrative tells us that Charley is capable, confident and professional but shows us in his actions the complete opposite. The amount of times he made a decision about who and why, without any real proof was frustrating. Fortunately the author did write an intriguing enough story that wanted me to keep reading to find out what happened. The story was a fast paced and easy read.

My enjoyment would have probably been higher if not for the ending, which was a bit anti-

I knew I would enjoy the narration of this book, because I have listened to another book by Gary Tiedemann before, and that book was also written by Peter J. Thompson so that was a plus!

Hit Me is a fast-paced murder mystery, and it's fantastic. I couldn't figure out who wanted Charley dead! I had my suspicions, and I was so wrong every time! I finally just gave up trying to figure it out! This book will most definitely have you second-guessing yourself and keep you on the edge of your seat the

Hit Me: A Killer Mystery Thriller by Peter J. Thompson is a fast-paced murder mystery that is sure to pull you in from the start. A suspenseful thriller about Charley. He is what some would call a fixer of problems, someone who loves to know why, a husband, father, brother and a killer. Charley kills people for a living. On the outside he seems like a likeable honest, loving man but on the inside he is a ruthless killer. Can he keep his secret or will the past catch up with him? Hit Me will have ...more

This is my second title from author Peter J. Thompson. The premise intrigued me; a hit man who gets assigned to his own hit. Crazy, right? The story was a psychological masterpiece as Charley tries to decipher who put a hit on him. His wife? His best friend? His sister? Or his dad? The list is not that long but it certainly presents its challenges. I was thrilled with the story until the end. It seemed anticlimactic and rushed.

As the narrator, Gary Tiedemann was methodical in his

I always enjoy books by Peter Thompson, and this was no exception. Except for a couple contrived events to move the story the right way, the whole concept was very enjoyable. A hit man’s contract is to “remove” himself. With time constraints in effect, he must execute the contract before it’s assigned to someone else. The interplay between the characters is raised a notch when protagonist tells the story in first person, allowing the reader special insight. I received an advanced digital copy fr ...more

When I first saw the information about this book, I thought that it was a very interesting concept. A hit man who receives a contract to kill HIMSELF! Who would have put out a contract on a simple family man? Well-developed characters and a great deal of thought and detail have been put into this story. Absolutely loved it

What a very unique perspective on crime. Mr Thompson brings this story to your mind within the very first few words. I was totally hooked into the story so hard that it was impossible to put the book down. It is a wonderful pleasure to get to read this story. I plan on picking up the next book as soon as I can. I can’t wait to see what the author has in mind for the next book’s perspective.

Hit Me: A Killer Mystery Thriller was a good read by Peter J. Thompson. Charley is a hit man, husband and dad. Charley gets another job but his next target is himself. He starts to create a suspect list and starts to try and find out who wants him dead. I really enjoyed reading this mystery thriller.

I admit I was intrigued by story line ... a hit man hired to kill himself ... but the book just didn't deliver for me. I stuck with it mainly because I wanted to see who put out the contract. ...more

I was so nervous for the first hour of Hit Me by Peter J. Thompson. It was so slow and I was really worried that it wasn’t going to pick up the pace. The Runaway was such an action packed story from the first work that I wasn’t sure about this next one. But Peter Thompson finally pulled in me after that first hour. Charley is the main character, the hit man. You’ll either love him or hate him. I grew to like him and really root for him! It’s a quick, thrilling sto

Peter Thompson grew up on the east side of Chicago, in the shadow of the steel mills where the air was sooty and smelled of sulfur. His life wasn’t always so gritty, but the grit and realism finds its way into his thrillers. He has always loved stories of every kind, and one of his joys is finding a way to get inside character’s heads, seeing the world as they see it and feeling their triumphs, pa ...more
