Rate this book
In Faerywood Falls, being Gifted is a curse ...

Now that Marriane has solved the last case she wants to spend time finding out who she is. She knows she feels at home in the woods but she wants to know more.

On the way home from work she hears a loud scream in the cemetery and finds a woman dead. Who or what could have killed her.

Then at the lodge of her aunts she over hears people talking about a violent ghost. Could that be the reason the woman died?

After her landlord tried to fall Marianne reached out and in doing so stoled the ability to see ghosts. Now Mrs B can’t see her husband and is upset.

She is the only Faery so there isn't anyone to teach her how her magic can protect her and she doesn't know what her powers are. The missing book is still gone so that is no help.

The series is getting better and better and the characters are as well. I am loving the trouble Marianne finds herself in finding dead bodies and people are staring to suspect she has something to do with it. I can’t wait to see what happens next.

Marianne Huffler finds herself once again pulled into the magical undercurrents of Faerywood Falls—this time with a mystery far more tangled and unpredictable than before. Strange events begin to unfold around the town, drawing her deeper into its folklore, hidden alliances, and dangerous enchantments. As clues surface and tensions rise, Marianne must piece everything together before the magic turns threatening. With old secrets resurfacing and new dangers emerging, Faerywood Falls proves that its charm often hides something far more complicated underneath.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ My Review — 4 out of 5 stars
What Worked

Stronger mystery: The mystery in this book was definitely better. I genuinely couldn’t guess the culprit or the twist, which made it so much more engaging.

Very atmospheric: The author builds the mood beautifully—foggy forests, magical hints, and that slightly eerie, mountain-town vibe. It felt richer and more immersive than the first book.

Good pacing: The story moves steadily with no drag. Every chapter adds something, and it kept me turning pages without losing interest.

Entertaining from start to finish: The mix of magic, tension, and small-town charm worked really well this time.

What Didn’t Work

Some characters still feel a bit underdeveloped: A few side characters remain surface-level, and I wished for deeper emotional moments.

Magic system still slightly vague: The world is interesting, but I’m still hoping for more clarity on how the magic works as the series progresses.

My Final Thoughts

This book was a solid improvement over the first one. The mystery was more gripping, the atmosphere stronger, and the pacing tighter. I stayed invested throughout. If Book 1 felt like setting the stage, Book 2 truly steps into its potential.

Very enjoyable—and it definitely makes me want to continue the series.

Marianne is riding her bike home from work when she hears a terrified scream come from the cemetery. She goes to see if she can be of some help and comes across another dead body. She calls the Sheriff. When he is done at the scene he gives her a ride to her aunt's Lodge. It's decided she should stay there overnight. They talk about tourists seeing a ghost. They're not gifted so how can they see a ghost? Something isn't right. Both the vampire and the werewolf say something is afoot. Mariane gets involved with another evil spell weaver. And the Magical book is still missing. She is the only Faery so there isn't anyone to teach her how her magic can protect her and she doesn't know what her powers are. She is having to figure out things on her own. She thinks the book would help her. She also wants to find out who her parents were and what happened to them. Characters are becoming more fleshed out. Well thought out and well written. I'm enjoying this series.
I voluntarily received a book from the author and I'm voluntarily posting a review. My opinion is entirely my own.

The ghost whisperer

Another good easy read. Not really an awful lot of mystery to it but if you need something that doesn't tax you to read and understand then this is perfect. The characters are getting better - more vivid and full apart from the main one. She is still wispy.
Returning home by way of the cemetery, she doesn't expect to hear a scream and to find a body of a young woman collapsed on a grave. Although it is used as a natural death, she is sure that there is more to it then that. The vampire agrees with her and now there are stories circulating around town of a vengeful ghost wandering around. Who is the ghost and why have they suddenly become active? 'Borrowing' her landlady's gift is an accident but how can she give it back? Will she find out the answers to the ghost and 'murder' that will set her mind at ease? What has happened to the book?

Extraordinarily entertaining Series

And extraordinarily entertaining urban fantasy/cozy mystery supernatural series. Great cast of characters in a small mountain town or supernatural is in humans live amongst each other even though the humans don’t know it. There is fairy magic in the air and a girl returns home and starts learning her fairy abilities. Unfortunately she keeps finding Dead bodies and then being so curious that she must find out the how the Y the who the where at Cetera. Very entertaining and worth reading check it out

"The Curious Curse of Faerywood Falls", second in the 'Mountain Magic Mystery' series, sees Marianne, the sole Faery in the village, finding another body - it's becoming a habit for her.
The book is mostly concerned with creating and detailing the story arc - what are Marianne's abilities, who were her parents, what is the ominous threat to the area? - than the murder mystery which, as in the first book, seems tacked on solely to create a beginning, middle and end.
That said the book is a fun and fast read.

Great storyline!

I’m really enjoying this story. Unlike other books involving paranormals that know of each other and interact, that doesn’t happen here and it is very refreshing! And! There is no obvious, immediate love connection. Attraction yes, but there is room for discovery and really good development.

I love Marianne and Athena. Looking forward to her discovering more about her powers....and herself

4.6 stars for The Curious Curse ...

Another quick read, but interesting mysteries and lots of magical questions for Marianne. I have enjoyed getting to know her and Athena in their new home. The stories are very satisfying as are the characters in Faerywood Falls. Wish I could move there too. Don't miss this series.

Wonderful!

I really enjoyed this book! Blythe Baker is quite talented and brings you along for a thrilling ride with her stories. When Marianne finds a young woman dead in the cemetery, she just can't leave the mystery alone. Then she accidentally steals her landlady's ability to speak to ghosts and things get interesting.

Another excellent book

I was really drawn into this book and really enjoyed it. Marianne is such a great character, she’s one you can really identify with and she just draws you in. I love her pet fox, Athena, her aunt and cousin and even the mysterious men who seem to like our heroine. It was a great mystery and I look forward to more!

I'm really enjoying this series - I love her pet fox, Athena, her aunt, cousin, and the two men woven in her adventures. Oh yes, and I love the shorter read. Good to "cleanse the palette" between heavier reading. Glad I found this author!
