Bitter. Broken. Brutal.
Molded since childhood to be the perfect weapon, Gavriel d’Alana (also known as Death’s Shadow) has devoted himself to serving Thalia Talfayen. The life of a Noxblade is lethal and lonely, and since the princess has no need of him, he secretly believes there’s no reason for him to live—and he should seek a glorious death—but that’s before he tangles

Gavriel was trained from childhood to be a lethal assassin, as a Noxblade his sworn duty has been to protect Princess Thalia and it's a job he's been proud to do. But as the Princess makes a marriage alliance with wolf and Pine Ridge alpha Raff he believes his duty as her bodyguard is over and is looking for a new way to serve. Magda has been working as Raff's personal protection but her main reason for travelling to the Eldritch lands is her hunt for former pack member Slay. Nobody knows if ...more

I liked all three previous heroines. I was wondering what additional information I'd be given so I don't dislike Magda. Her behaviour and comments previously didn't leave any room for me to like her.

I'm glad Anne Aguirre is this good. I really liked Magda here. She is tough and formidable, but it is never in your face. Add her compassion into the mix and you can't stop loving her. Death's shadow didn't stand a chance against this curious cat.

Speaking of him, at first I thought I'd be annoyed by

I’m a fan of the Ads Numina series and have really enjoyed Ann Aguirre’s PNR series. I like the interplay between the different types of characters and the taut tension between the various couples.
This particular pairing between Noxblade, Gavriel d’Alana, and Chief Security shifter, Magda Versai is unusual and intriguing for me. Gavriel is trained as a highly disciplined Noxblade and sublimates his masochistic tendencies. He has never found a safe place to share his proclivities.

You know, I am not a romance novel kinda woman. If a book has a romance in it, fabulous, bring it. But I'm not going to actively search one out...unless it involves shape-shifting animari complete with tribal intrigue, battle lines, inter-species war, and erotica. Yes, erotica.

You have discovered my weakness.

Ann Aguirre's "Ars Numina" series is entertaining and captivating and even though you know what will happen by the end of the book, you still love every page. She has created a paranormal

if you like the series, keep reading! this happens during the previous book's timeline but separate from the action there for most of it. Looking forward to the last two books

The Shadow Warrior was action packed with a few slow parts but I enjoyed it all the same. I especially loved the way the relationship developed between the main characters because of how unlikely a pairing they were not only because they were different species but for other reasons that I won't post because I don't want to spoil it for anyone. I enjoyed it and I'm looking forward to the next book in the series.

4.5 stars. This is the 4th in the series. It went along in the beginning with the events of the 3rd book. This character has been intriguing me since the first book and my heart breaks for him. Though he is surrounded by death, the senseless loss he had in the first, and the brutal finality of his loss in the second had me hoping for this hopeless hero. Mags, the heroine, is one awesome tiger lady. I loved her and felt the light she brought with her. Ah! This series. It's rough and brutal, but I ...more

I was super excited to get my hands on an ARC of the latest installment of the Ars Numina saga. Mags drags Gavriel along on a quest to see if they can determine what happened to Slay, and boy is he not enthused by hanging out with her hotness... at first. If you are looking for a hero who is basically the definition of the Arrested Development jail guard shouting "No Touching!" crossed with the crone shouting "Shame" as Cersei walks down from the Sept, Gavriel is your dude. No more moping over ...more

This is a good solid book with a nice story with great chemistry between the characters.
Part of the story overlaps with the earlier book "The Wolf Lord", so this is definetly a series you need to read in order.
Ann Aguirre does a nice update of the story so far in the intro, but I recommend everybody to read the earlier books. Which shouldn't be a problem as they are good.
I also like the way the whole dominance-submission relationship between the two felt, a nice change from the usual fare.

The ARS NUMINA series is the absolute best. I love it so much and it’s series one of my favorite series ever.

I was blessed to receive an eARC of this one from the author and of course I flew through it.

I love these character so much. And I love the couples in every one.

Mags and Gavriel were no different.

I loved learning the back stories and watching their slow burn romance develop. They are so perfect for each other. As all the couples are.

You cannot help but to love these characters and

I didn't expect to like this as much as I did, I guess I expected the main characters to be colder and their sexual encounters to be rougher but that wasn't the case. The heroine a tiger shifter actually hid a very soft heart that had been hurt by losses. She was also deadly and kick-ass. The hero too had been reeling with loss and growing up in a society where he never had love and acceptance. Both of them journey together to find Slay who went missing together in the first book and along the ...more

Gavriel and Magda are both loyal to their leaders and don't see why they both are trying to join their species. Things may have been working just fine over the years, even if the recent uprisings are causing a little bit of a stir. After Gavriel lost his twin brother in battle he wouldn't mind a little bit of revenge, it just turns out he works really well with the tiger woman. On a mission to track a new drug affecting the outer villages they find that their interests align a little more than ...more

I loved this story so much more than I was expecting. Perfect amount of angst mixed with sexy times and tenderness. There's nothing i would want changed. Ann Aguirre has created an intriguing world and lovely inhabitants. Now i settle down for the long wait for book 5.

One of the best things about this book is the BEGINNING. This is not a standalone romance novel, but a book that must be read as part of a series. There is a very long and involved recap of the previous books in this series, and thank goodness for that. Because as much as I absolutely adore these books, I also have a mind like a sieve and can have lots of trouble remember plot lines. The events of this story do take place within the timeline of The Wolf Lord

Romanceopoly Readathon Day 1: Red on the Cover/ Bus Challenge - Characters go on a journey

This story takes place during The Wolf Lord, a side quest. I wish that it had tied back into the series storyline at the end though. I feel like I need to go back to TWL to see what’s next.

In the previous Ars Numina book, The Wolf Lord, we saw Gavriel and Magda set off in search of a group of Eldritch rebels. The Shadow Warrior follows them on that journey and includes some of the same events
I bought this one pretty much as soon as it came out, but decided to save it for when I was really craving a romance. Yesterday, I decided the time was nigh. I started reading this last night, found myself drawn in completely, and finished this off in the morning. Spoiler alert: I loved it!

This books advances the actual story the least, as it occurs basically simultaneously with The Wolf Lord, but I have to be honest... Whereas The Wolf Lord was my least favorite of the series so far, The

I am always excited to reveive an ARC copy of Ann Aguirre's books to review. The Shadow Warror is the fourth book in the 'Ars Numina' series and takes place in tandem to 'The Wolf Lord'; certain key moments from that storyline play out in 'The Shadow Warrior', though seen from Mags and Gavriel's point of view. Throughout this story we follow Magda Versai, Mags for short, a cursed tiger shifter, destined to never know love again and Gavriel d'Alana, a brutal Noxblade famously known as 'Death's ...more

I have never read an Ann Aguirre book that I have not absolutely adored. Even the stories that aren’t my favorites are still so wonderful.

This is not one of those stories. From the previous three Ars Numina, I had mixed feelings about following Gavriel’s and Mags’s story. As always with Ann, I had nothing to fear.

I preordered this book, downloaded it at midnight, and thank god it was not a work night because I tore through this in six hours flat. I adored Mags, she’s tough and hilarious and her
Oh, man. A hardened, emotionally stunted (or so it seems on the surface) assassin and the enigmatic shifter who gets under his skin. Gavriel and Magda woooorrrrrrked for me. Mostly, I think, because Gavriel was just so conflicted about himself and his wants and, I don't know...EVERYTHING.

Everything about the two of them worked for me.

Gavriel is kind of a mess. His training has distanced him so much from everyone around him that he doesn't know how to let his guard down and let someone in.

I love this series so much.

I love the adult scenes.
I think the characters are all mysterious and all have their own demons to deal with. It makes them more real and relatable.

I like Anne Aguirre's writing style.

Mags followed Raff in order to complete her own mission, but she had to stick around until Raff was done with his mission. Gavriel was broken and hurting and still so infatuated with Thalia he wasn't sure where his life was going.

The Shadow Warrior Sadly, this series has come to an end, though the author's website mentions too more books to come. When and if, I'll check them out. I enjoyed my foray into the world of Ars Numina. I did find it harder to get invested in this book, and I'm not really sure why. Gavriel and Mags are interesting characters, and there is great chemistry between the two, who are totally disparate characters--truly a case of opposites attract. Additionally, Aguirre has a way of taking mostly ...more

Gavriel and Mag's story is the Sweetness of Everything

I've been a fan of Ann Aguirre since her Sirantha Jax series, but did not know about the Ars Numina series until very recently. I've been missing out! Having decided to start with book 4, The Shadow Warrior, I was more than a little lost with the world building, not understanding the nuances of the different factions. However, this was a pretty isolated storyline and I only needed to know about one broken Noxblade and a mouthy Tiger. I loved

It's an enemy-to-lovers trope set in the world we've come to know. She's all fire and force, he's control and ice. You know, the perfect combination for this trope. Their banter was fun and interesting, Mags is badass, Gavriel is so broken you get a bit invested in seeing him grow and learn to feel. The sex dynamic was one that we haven't seen before: pain & pleasure and how all of that works. There's even a curse involved.

All in all, it should have all the ingredients to make for an

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

The Shadow Warrior focuses around Gavriel (Noxblade) and Madga (feline shifter), who were side characters in the last book in the series, The Wolf Lord. It follows along side, showing previous events from a different viewpoint.
Basically we have natural enemies forced to work together in confined quarters and hold the peace for the sake of their liege’s political alliances in their new marriage. Talk about a melting pot of amazing plot!
