With love comes pain.
And with pain comes scars.

Believe me, I have had my share of it all.
After my mother’s death, my father couldn’t deal.
So once again, we’re moving.
To a town full of lies, darkness, and corruption.
All masked in sunshine and money.

But then I meet him…
My biggest mistake.
My biggest temptation.
A royal pain-in-the-ass.

Holy..Shhh... WOW- First of all- THIS WAS A DEBUT!! and I am SHOOK.

I hate that I loved this book so much. I hate the way I feel about toxic characters and the love I have for redemption. Many times I will start to read a character and automatically want to judge them- and then I have to put myself in their shoes- I try really hard to imagine what they have gone through or been through in order for them to have turned into whatever they have become. If I am being comple

This is the first book ever from the author so i won't be harsh on the review. I gave it 4 (3.5) stars just because of what the book encompassed. Frankly i would love to read more from the author just to see where her writing goes, because it held promise.

No, it wasn't a bad book. It was well written, sometimes so good that you would find yourself lost in it until a point of time. Every page was written in such a way that will want to make you read the next.

So why the not so positive opinion, yo

A boy who selfishly never cared to question anyone else around him except for me. No matter how much I loved him or wanted to fix him, I realized it’s better to accept that the King’s crown was jagged and tilted on his privileged head.

I am so disappointed in this book. It is not what the blurb suggests it is going to be. Nora was such a push over, he treated her like trash and she forgave him

🔝that was 2 days ago... when I went back through my notes I ended up re-reading the 10% and also the other 90%, which I'm actually glad about! Being A.M Brookes debut book I wanted to give her a go and initially the blurb really appealed to me, so it had me thinking "Why don't I like this book?

The storyline itself was ok - rich boy meets not rich girl who's just moved to town with her dad, s

Wow I sooo love this book! Im blown away that this is the author’s first book because it’s that amazing! It kinda has a 90210 feel to it but more. Nora is the new girl just hoping to fit in. Nora never expected to meet Darrian King and other wealthy kids. Angst and drama will make you scream out loud and make you throw your kindle while reading this book. Darrian is a prick and many times you will hate him but I have a love hate for him. Nora I love her character because in many ways I felt I wa ...more

Yeah, NO.

I do not enjoy stories like these. Too much unwanted, predictable drama. Stupid girl. Uber rich, sexy but arrogant boy. This is a disaster waiting to happen. I will make this short. She is poor, not that poor but you get it. Her father works for his father. He is rich. He is untouchable. He wants her. But he can't trust her. Because he fears that people will use him. So when he likes her, her life is good. Everyone in her school behaves well with her. But when he is pissed, which is qu

A.M. brooks really gave my heart some serious bruises. Really love the toxic pull and push, these are the kind of things which make a couple look real.. i mean not every relationship can be a fairy tale.

When I read the blurb I was expecting some bad boy meet good girl plot but noo, the protagonist isn’t your goody two shoes. But your boy, can be categorised as a bad boy or may I say a king. Darrian King - your guy who doesn’t date or settle for any girl- is from a wealthy family. Enter Nora. Gra

Hearts and Bruises by A.M. Brooks is the story of Darrian and Nora.
After Nora's mother died her father started moving them around a lot. So Nora has never had any real friends or a stable life. This latest move has put her in site of Darrian. Darrian is a rich kid who doesn't do the girlfriend / boyfriend life. But they go forward to have some hot encounters. There is more going on with Darrian that his father expects from him. Nora has taken the role of taken on others people problems which cau

"My heart ache for that naive girl."

I really want to hate Nora but at the same time I feel for her. Yes her decisions and judgement is stupid, her pretty much "non existent" relationship with Darrian is so toxic. This guy from the start you can see all the Red flags winking at you. He's an addict, alcoholic and an arrogant jerk. Nora's knew it damn well but still choose to ignore all the warning signs about him. I guess love really makes you blind. I hate cheating (view spoiler)

I'm so confused with how to rate this book! I've literally just finished it so had to get my rant off my chest. I liked it but it annoyed the hell out of me at the same time. I have had to put it down several times to avoid throwing it across the room in frustration! Our main lady Nora started off being sassy and strong and with her background who could blame her. After losing her mum to a drugs overdose and moving around alot she really couldn't see that move number 12 would be any different so ...more

YA/NA has definitely become my go-to reads lately. I've had such great experiences with reading this genre that I devour these books in hours.

Hearts and Bruises had its moments where I felt like I wanted to jump into the book and knock some sense into these teens but the drama, the suspense and the angst had me intrigued to no end. There was a constant in this book that had me pushing for more and more and the author didn't disappoint.

Granted, many people feel frustrated with the fact that the

This is a major love/hate relationship story with a lot of back and forth and I am ALL for it. My emotions felt like they were a ping pong ball going back and forth between swooning over the crazy chemistry between Darrian and Nora and then basically trying to resist the urge to throw my kindle across the room from anger. DARRIAN! My man, what on earth are you doing!? You’re killin’ me over here!!

My emotions were running wild on this book. But that’s what makes a story so good!

After the death of her mother, Nora and her father are constantly moving from city to city. She doesn't have any friends or a stable life. When she is invited to a beach party and meets Darrian King and his friends, Nora thinks that she could have a normal life. But Darrian King can give her everything and also, could take it off all.

The beginning of the book was really good and engaging. I was really excited to read it. I was mentally craving drama and, this boo

Now I really wanted to like this book. I love high school romances with bad ass guys but hearts and bruises fell a little short for me. The reason why... the heroine was such a push over and I HATE that. Darrian would treat her like such shit and then she would just go back and forgive him like nothing happened. It had me pulling my hair out.

This book focuses on a girl way out of her comfort zone trying to fit into to a world that she has no idea how to feel comfortable in so she tries to pleas

Youch. This is not a new adult book. I am totally okay with new adult having graphic sex. I mean, new adults do, so why shouldn't the books. The challenge here is that the male character starts kind and turns, I mean turns. He becomes a jerk. And, the female character similarly turns from normal to doormat. There are people who love the Alpha (I mean Kristin Ashley's books for example sell off the charts), but this guy's challenge is his 180. There is a story as to why, and a story as to why she ...more

5 EMOTIONAL STARS!! This story had my emotions all over the place. I have such a Love/Hate relationship for Darrian. Nora is so strong and beautiful, this girl has confidence like no other. My heart ached for her and Darrian. Their story is full of angst and love, it had me flipping pages so fast I finished in one sitting. I need the next book.....NOW! I definitely think this story is a 1-Click book.

Hearts and Bruises is A.M. Brooks debut novel, but you would not believe that after reading this emotional and angsty as f*ck story that had me wholeheartedly captivated within the first few words on the page. The moment I began reading I was instantly sucked in and found myself devouring this story in one sitting because I was completely invested in every second of Nora Sutton and Darrian King. Their romance started off with a bang right from th
First of all, I had a hard time classifying this book. If we are going with a YA classification, then it should be referred to as a mature YA. It is definitely not for the faint of heart. There are several things that occur which could be considered triggers by some. That said and moving forward, if you like a bully book, this is definitely along those the extreme at times. I obviously like to torture myself with a hero who often jerks the heroine back and forth because I was totally ...more

Thanks to the publisher for an ARC to read and give my honest opinion.

Fool me once, shame on you....Fool me twice, shame on me. Nora is a messed up girl with no mother, and no roots. Stuck with a father who is constantly running from his demons they arrive in a town where the Kings own everything. Thinking maybe things would be different here Nora heads to a party with Ethan only to fall for Darrian. Darrian seems to be Nora's Achilles as the two go through a tumultuous relationship that seems

I was pissed off at Darrius because let’s just face it he is one hundred percent pure jackass. But then he does these sweet romantic things that make me get all mushy. Damn him! But he was predictable, I c

Let’s me start by saying that this a solid 5 star story. This is a first book by this author and if I wouldn’t have known this before going in, I couldn’t have said it was. It was addicting, captivating and entertaining. I was hooked from the get go. The storyline was solid and it didn’t have any unnecessarily details just to fill a page. If I a story gets a reaction out of me then it’s a 5 star for sure.

Let’s talk about the storyline a bit without given out spoilers. This is a YA story that de

I gave this read a 4/5 star rating because romance is not my favourite genre and it hasn't quite made it into my top favourites of the year, but that could still change depending on the next book. I don't usually read "romance" or "new adult books" because I find them much of a muchness - in other words, I think they are all the same. However, on the first page of this book I realized it was very different from what I had anticipated and immediately I loved the story and fell in love with the ch ...more

Debut stories are always some of my favorite reads because you get a "fresh voice," you get a style of writing that's like nothing you've ever read before. A.M. Brooks captured my full-on attention with the blurb, and I quickly realized after the first couple chapters, Hearts and Bruises wasn't one of those sugar-coated stories. Hearts and Bruises, was, in fact, a real and honest portrayal of what high school drama is really like.

I bounced back and forth with Nora and Darrian. Sometimes I liked

First things first the book has been written beautifully the writing style and how the way emotions have been emoted, absolutely flawless. Just going by the writing style it’s hard to tell that this is Brooks first book. The characterization is on point, scene sketching has just enough detail that it grabs you all in and the side characters are fun to know too.
