I hate that I loved this book so much. I hate the way I feel about toxic characters and the love I have for redemption. This is the first book ever from the author so i won't be harsh on the review. I gave it 4 (3.5) stars just because of what the book encompassed. Frankly i would love to read more from the author just to see where her writing goes, because it held promise.
No, it wasn't a bad book. It was well written, sometimes so good that you would find yourself lost in it until a point of time. Every page was written in such a way that will want to make you read the next.

Wow I sooo love this book! Im blown away that this is the author’s first book because it’s that amazing! It kinda has a 90210 feel to it but more. Nora is the new girl just hoping to fit in. A.M. brooks really gave my heart some serious bruises. Really love the toxic pull and push, these are the kind of things which make a couple look real.. i mean not every relationship can be a fairy tale.

I really want to hate Nora but at the same time I feel for her. Yes her decisions and judgement is stupid, her pretty much"non existent" relationship with Darrian is so toxic. This guy from the start you can see all the Red flags winking at you. He's an addict, alcoholic and an arrogant jerk. I'm so confused with how to rate this book! I've literally just finished it so had to get my rant off my chest. I liked it but it annoyed the hell out of me at the same time. YA/NA has definitely become my go-to reads lately. I've had such great experiences with reading this genre that I devour these books in hours.
Hearts and Bruises had its moments where I felt like I wanted to jump into the book and knock some sense into these teens but the drama, the suspense and the angst had me intrigued to no end. There was a constant in this book that had me pushing for more and more and the author didn't disappoint.

Now I really wanted to like this book. I love high school romances with bad ass guys but hearts and bruises fell a little short for me. Youch. This is not a new adult book. I am totally okay with new adult having graphic sex. I mean, new adults do, so why shouldn't the books. 5 EMOTIONAL STARS!! This story had my emotions all over the place. I have such a Love/Hate relationship for Darrian. Nora is so strong and beautiful, this girl has confidence like no other. My heart ached for her and Darrian. Their story is full of angst and love, it had me flipping pages so fast I finished in one sitting. I need the next book.....NOW! I definitely think this story is a 1-Click book.

Let’s me start by saying that this a solid 5 star story. This is a first book by this author and if I wouldn’t have known this before going in, I couldn’t have said it was. It was addicting, captivating and entertaining. I was hooked from the get go. The storyline was solid and it didn’t have any unnecessarily details just to fill a page. Debut stories are always some of my favorite reads because you get a "fresh voice," you get a style of writing that's like nothing you've ever read before. A.M. Brooks captured my full-on attention with the blurb, and I quickly realized after the first couple chapters, Hearts and Bruises wasn't one of those sugar-coated stories. First things first the book has been written beautifully the writing style and how the way emotions have been emoted, absolutely flawless. Just going by the writing style it’s hard to tell that this is Brooks first book. The characterization is on point, scene sketching has just enough detail that it grabs you all in and the side characters are fun to know too.
