I read another book in this series and found it usefull; this one wasn't, not even a little.

I understand that this series isn't about history, but there was almost zero history in this edition and it's impossible to understand a culture without some knowledge of their history. So much of the advice handed out here was so incredibly commonsensical that it seemed like the intended readers are space aliens without any information about human interactions. I was just looking for a primer about Cambodia since I know so little about the country. This book was no help at all. If all you’re looking for on what you should bring as a gift if you’re invited to someone’s home in Cambodia, this may be for you. Maybe you can re-gift your copy of this book to the family.

I've been living and working in Cambodia for over 8 years now. Even though this book is 17 years old at the time of this review, the information contained in this guide remains spot-on and accurate. If you plan to visit Cambodia and want to learn about the history, people, and customs, you should definitely read this book.

Good intro to the country of Cambodia. I especially appreciated the info on Angkor Wat and its neighboring temples. I learned more about them from other sources as it happens when you come here and take the tours and watch documentaries.

This was a nice compliment to my visit and all the other stuff I read and watched to get a more rounded understanding of the nation.

3.5 stars.

I bought this book hoping it would help me learn more about Cambodian culture...specifically etiquette and other things related to interactions with Cambodian people. while it did have some of that in it...it was mores geared towards travel tips for visiting Cambodia.
