The sun of the Chicome people has been destroyed six times. First by water, then by storm, fire, famine, sickness, and beasts. After each apocalypse, the creator goddess allowed one of her divine children to sacrifice themselves to save civilization. The gods paid their blood as the price for the lives of the people, and the people owed them blood in return.

Omigoodness, the description sounds marvellous!

So excited to get an eARC of this one! Don’t know the author but read the premise and tell me it doesn’t sound awesome. From apocalypses to ritual sacrifice to Aztec/Mayan roots; I’m all in! (Will read close to publication date)

Omg y’all!!! It’s so fun to read that I finished the entire book in one long marathon reading sesh. Every detail feels necessary, every character is REAL, and I love this seriously unique spin on the kind of strong princess story that I’ve always loved and haven’t come across since childhood. Yet! This version is mature, nuanced, and so well-written that you barely realize you’re even reading. This book kinda just happens to you in the best way, so that you can lose yourself in it completely. A tremendously lush and romantic adventure.

I cannot thank Lani Forbes enough for allowing me to read an early copy of her book.

Everything about THE SEVENTH SUN was stunning, from the prose, to the myths, to the romance between Akhin and Mayana, to the magic system and intrigue.

An absolute must-read!

I need book 2. (Hope you won’t make me wait too long). ;)

OMG! This book is amazing! The world building is based on Aztec mythology. Princesses from different city-states each have a unique power, and the power is connected to the God or Goddess of their area. You feel completely immersed in the world, but it's so incredibly easy to follow at the same time. I felt like I learned a lot about the culture without trying. It was entertaining the whole way through.

I am a romantic, and the sweet tension between Mayana and Ahkin kept me intrigued

COUNT ME IN!

The Seventh Sun by Lani Forbes follows two points of views. Set in South America, based off of Aztec and Mayan myths and history, this book weaves a beautiful, magical story. The emperor of Chicome has died, leaving his son Ahkin to take over as emperor and to raise the sun each day. Through studying the skies and the sun setting earlier and earlier each day, hints of chaos looming over his nation. He also cannot fully inherit the t/>

OH. MY. GOODNESS. GRACIOUS. I actually was making noises at this book (ask my brother, he was next to me when I was reading it). I thought I was going to have a heart attack while reading it. Currently, I'm going through withdrawal. This book is absolutely #WriterGoals, and I'm thoroughly convinced Mrs. Forbes is magic. The description and the plot twists made it totally worth all the anguish it caused :p. I CANNOT WAIT to read the next one. I would recommend The Seventh Sun to all of my bookwor ...more

This is an amazing book. The characters come to life while in their time and culture. If your a fan of Percy Jackson you will love this story. The story draws you in with realistic characters who you empathize with as they face their challenges. I can’t wait to read more from this author.

I'd like to start by saying that I love that this book is inspired by Aztec/Mayan beliefs; it was a refreshing take on typical YA fantasy stories. However, as this is not material I am incredibly familiar with, I did find some of this book challenging to engage with and understand. I found myself googling things often to make sure I wasn't missing references that might be important later in the story. The writing of this was nice; I liked the characters. The bridal selection and tests reminded m ...more

Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for the free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. My opinion was not affected by the free book.

At first I wasn't considering this book, but I figured why not try it, and I'm glad I sent in the request. Honestly, it does tick a lot of familiar boxes in the fantasy/alternate history category, but I like that it focused on a culture that isn't often explored. I don't know a lot about Aztec/Maya beliefs and culture, but I could fee

The sun is setting on an era, and if Ahkin doesn’t rise as his empire’s new ruler, the sun may never rise again. Ahkin is a decedent of the light god, and only his living blood can keep the next apocalypse at bay. But how can he take over for his father, when he’s conflicted about the fate of his mother? And how can he be a good emperor, when all the signs in the heavens tell him he’s already failing?

Mayana is a princess of the water goddess. She can control water, but she can’t cont

This book...THIS BOOK.

I loved reading this! I love the inclusion of Aztec and Mayan beliefs, and I felt that it was interwoven in this world quite well while still being unique. This is a different type of love story. While it's taking place in just a span of 2 weeks, with the falling in love happening in just a span of a few days, it feels genuine and almost as if you've known these characters for a long time. It doesn't feel rushed, but it also doesn't feel slow. I have no idea how it's po

In relation to other young adult material, The Seventh Sun is one of the most original and diverse books that I have read with ties to Native American Mythology from South America. It has a lot of internal character conflict. The nature, magic, and mythology all come together to give decadent read. The character's each balance one another throughout the novel. The foreboding issues that face the nation of Chicome people is one of the overall themes that make t

The Seventh Sun was an interesting book. The mythology and lore behind it was refreshing. I loved the author’s use of Aztec history and mythology, and her research mentioned in the author’s note really showed through. The world building was my favorite part about this book. The story, however, was not exactly unique. And the two main characters, Mayana and Ahkin, were not particularly fleshed out in my opinion. And the the romance had its moments, but like every other character in the book I was sk ...more

I received an ARC from Edelweiss in exchange for a honest review.

The Seventh Sun was an unique and enjoyable reading based on Maya and Aztec mythology. In fact, what I loved most was the worldbuilding (the author did a lot of research), which was fascinating and very detailed. I also adored the story in general and there were some unexpected twists I didn't see coming. The only thing I didn't like very much was the romance, too insta-lovey. Ok so I happen to love prehistoric fiction and fantasy. Those are me sweet spots and this novel hit both of them with beautiful imagery to boot. It did get a little to YA romancy for me but I’m old so... I think the kids are going to love it though. 15-year-old me probably would have reread this a thousand times.
