When you're launching a startup, one of the most important elements is the legal work involved. Unfortunately, it's easy for many entrepreneurs to ignore startup legal work or make costly mistakes that could derail their business before it gets off the ground.
But now there's help. In Acceleration , corporate attorney Ryan Roberts guides you through the often confusing early legal decisions critical to getting a startup going. In plain, comprehensible English, he offers expert advice, best practices, legal strategies, and all the information you need to incorporate, issue and divide equity, decipher seed and venture capital investments, and much more.
Startup law doesn't have to be a confusing maze. The practical knowledge in this invaluable volume will help you make the smart decisions to protect your company and its future.
Before reading this book, I knew almost nothing about forming a corporation, startup fundraising, and securities law. After reading this book, I might know a few things. It's still hard to tell.
I think Acceleration is an excellent introduction to startup law. I often read news about tech and startups, and I will be a more informed reader when I hear about funding rounds. The book covers a broad timespan for an entrepreneur, from starting a business to an exit. It's a little overwhelming to review all the topics in a single book, but it's good to be aware of the broad range of considerations.
The bureaucracy around creating a C corp and managing equity, as written by a lawyer, should bore one to tears- however, Mr. Roberts does a great job keeping it relevant, interesting, and concise.
If this is relevant to your interests, this is the book for you.
Always hire a lawyer for this kind of things. The alternative can be so much more expensive. This book is a great introduction on wide variety of important topics.
Adding a review because this book deserved it. Fantastic option for anyone looking for a lightweight legal primer on corporate formation, structure, and governance from founding through growth stages.
