Dressing Rich was published in 1982. How does a fashion advice book that is over 30 years old stand up to the test of time?
From a practical viewpoint, the information provided on investment buying, quality recognition and starting with a compact, selective wardrobe is still applicable. A high price tag is not a guarantee of a quality female garment, as women's clothing stores are filled with expensive clothes that don't hang properly, or constructed with hems and buttons that become unravelled after being worn a few times. Men's clothing doesn't seem to have this problem, so I've always felt that this was a form of discrimination by the manufacturers, as they assume that women following fashion changes will pay for cheaply made articles of clothing that are fashionable, since they'll be buying new items on a regular basis.
The last two chapters of the book, on what to include in your wardrobe and hair styling are outdated, as the suggestions are better suited for the 1980's.
For entertainment value, the pencil illustrations will put a smile on your face. Based on the illustrations, rich dressing women are tall and thin with a disdainful expression on their faces, as though somebody had just farted in their presence.

Although this book is from 1982, the philosophy holds true. Don't follow fads, less is more and stick to quality and the classics.
