पटना: खोया हुआ शहर

मध्यकाल में पटना की शोहरत देश की सरहदों को लाँघ विदेशों तक पहुँच गयी थी। पटना उत्पादन और व्यापार के केन्द्र के रूप में देश में ही नहीं विदेशों में भी जाना जाने लगा। 17वीं सदी में पटना की शोहरत हिन्दुस्तान के ऐसे शहर के रूप में हो गयी थी, जिसके व्यापारिक सम्बन्ध यूरोप, एशिया और अफ्रीका जैसे महादेशों के साथ थे।

ईस्ट इण्डिया कम्पनी और ब्रिटिश इण्डिया में पटना और उसके आसपास के इलाकों में शोरा, अफीम, पॉटरी, चावल, सूती और रेशमी कपड़े, दरी और कालीन का उत्पादन बड़े पैमाने पर होता था। पटना के दीघा फार्म में तैयार उत्पादों की जबरदस्त माँग लन्दन के आभिजात्य लोगों के बीच थी। विदेशी पर्यटक और यात्री कौतूहल के साथ पटना आते। उनके संस्मरणों में तत्कालीन पटना सजीव हो उठता है। इस पुस्तक में उनके संस्मरण और कई अन्य रोचक जानकारियाँ मिलेंगी।

I have lived in Patna all my life but I did not know many of the interesting facts and stories about it that this book presents. It gives a glimpse of the history of the city in a very nice and conversational manner.

There are articles on how Patna was in the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries, about its people in those days, their festivals, the British administrators who lived here and many other travellers who came to the city. You get to learn how the city has transformed over the last 300-400 years. There are articles on many different topics and the articles are short and mostly easy to read. You can pick it up anytime to read a few articles from here and there and then come back to it whenever you want to. I finished it in just three days.

Patna: Khoya Hua Shahar is for everyone who loves Patna, has lived/lives here or wants to know more about how it has become what it is.

Lots of information but said in very small lines or story. Also I feel there was lots of repeated facts that keep coming again and again
