Empty platitudes (e.g., do what you love and you'll never work a day in your life) illustrated with stories of the author's success, delivered without any awareness of the fact that most of his opportunities were purchased for him by his wealthy family.
Mr. Murray's stepfather -- a Texas oil tycoon -- gave him his first serious job, paid his way through college, and funded his luxury lifestyle while in college. His grandmother gave him a Jaguar while he was in college. His first job upon graduati ...more

The Perfectly Useless Book of Useless Information. It doesn't get any more useless than this!
It was agony reading the first bunch of chapters, its evident he's a self entitled guy.
The mere fact only his name is on the cover as the author shows he thinks of just himself. No wonder mainstream publishing houses wanted nothing to do with him.
Tom, please, please do not write another book. A writer you are NOT. Your advice is pedestrian, and mostly 'copy and paste' dribble. ...more

I'm sorry, but this is one of the most shoddily written books I've ever read in my life. Couldn't read it. Got 25% of the way through and donated it.
Whether you're an aspiring entrepreneur, team leader or a seasoned business CEO, this book is a waste of time. There is NO valuable information or advice that will help you advance. Just another crappy business book from a wannabe writer. The tone, and flow of the book was horrendous. ...more

Packed full of life tips, albeit most unhelpful, the author tries to portray what to do and how to act in order to live your best life. Even though he states over and over again that money does not buy happiness, he doesn't hesitate to detail repeatedly all of the luxuries afforded to him throughout his life beginning in childhood. From private jets to dining at 5 star restaurants, it is evident that he has never financially struggled in his life. When he advises to walk away from jobs that don'

Thoroughly enjoyed this book! Take it straight from the head of Calvin Klein himself and find out how he changed the world of fashion as we know it piece by piece (and why). This is a valuable way to self vision yourself in advance and then go out there and apply his instructions for not only your career but your life overall. I appreciated the upbeat tone of this book as if the author is one on one with you in-person coaching/cheering you along. A definite recommend for my friends and family to

It's evident Tom Murry was born with a silver spoon up the arse, and he points it out very quickly.
It goes to show that no matter how much money you have acquired, or what position in corporate America you attain, if you don’t know how to tell a story, you’ve got nothing.
A former CEO of Calvin Klein?, and this is the crap he writes about!
There is no real advice on how to succeed; no advice on how to advance your career (most of us cannot afford to just leave a job you moron).

"A Great Fit" by Tom Murry.
Really well written book!
A real guide to help you through life, see what's important, how to build yourself, build a career, prioritize... what to do or not, advice, the author's experiences...
Be confident, you can do it! And to do it well, read this book!
Beautiful cover as well!

I am afraid that unless you are a fairly interesting person leading a fairly interesting life, writing a book about yourself and your opinions usually is not really interesting. There is no useful information in this book to advance or get a career that suits you. The book is really about a self entitled man who has an ego and constantly tells the reader how wonderful he is and admired.
OMG Tom Murry get a life, and be real!

A painful read and I had to try three times to get through it. Don't ask me why I made myself read the whole book; I have no idea. I made it literally about 4 chapters in...wanted to throw it across the room. The writing was hideous. The only thing that kept me up with this is.. I don't know, boredom?
Tom Murry sounds like a pretentious, egotist *ick throughout the book, especially in the first handful of chapters.
It's practically a waste of trees.

I rec'd A Great Fit as part of a kindle giveaway. Murry has lots of stories for those new or experienced in the work force to draw from. I found his conversational style refreshing.

(Spoilers)It's not great but it's not terrible. I respect the author for what he did in his career (he ran Calvin Klein for 17 years) but the book feels very phony and full of abstract advice with very little real world examples/practical steps for everyday work/life.
The author was born into a wealthy family, where he was adored and allowed to do whatever he wanted (including stylish clothes, expensive cars, free education, jobs etc) - and its not a bad thing to be born wealthy (the author admi ...more

There are two kinds of business books out there: the kind that are so slimy that you feel like you need to take a shower after finishing & the kind that are written by truly good people. This book, which I received in a Goodreads giveaway, is definitely the latter. Tom is a sincere mentor with good-natured, heartfelt advice. The conversational style of his writing was never intimidating & made me feel like he was speaking directly to me over a cup of coffee. I sincerely enjoyed this book & highl

I am absolutely in awe of this amazing advice.
A lot of the principles that are outlined I didn't know I already use but I wasn't using them all the time which now I reflect on as where mistakes have been made. I recommend this to anyone who wants to change their career or outlook in life in a positive way. This book outlines what one needs to establish to become successful and happier. Such an important read and glad I read it before going into a new adventure. ...more

I received this book in a Goodreads giveaway, and this is my honest opinion.
The book mostly centers around careet tips that could benefit people in most professions. I found the book well written, and it shows how important it is hard work and persistence pays off in the long run. This was very different from what I would normally read, but overall I found it to be a good read.

The author seems like a very nice, likable guy. I was interested in this book because of the fashion background and there just wasn't much of that in here. It centers more on career tips that could apply in almost any career path. ...more
