Tough, tender-hearted Frankie Devereux doesn't have time to babysit a smooth-talking football player who's supposed to be doing community service at her after-school center for troubled teens. A Safe Place by Margaret Watson
The Devereux Family #1

Frankie Devereux has set up a safe place for at-risk youth to go after school. This place is in a bad part of town and much needed in the community. She has some donors to assist a bit with finances but provides most of the funds to keep the place going by working in a bakery – she is often tired and stressed and seems to be burning her candle at both ends. When Frankie finds out that super-jock Cal Stewart has been assigned to work with her

Cal, a football star who is recovering from a knee injury, is sentenced to community service after being arrested for hitting a man who was abusing a woman. Frankie runs FreeZone, an after-school program to give at-risk kids a safe place to go to avoid gangs. At first the pair are like oil and water. Cal thinks he can pay his way out of doing the community service, and Frankie is a hard and stubborn, not willing to give an inch when it comes to Cal.

I really liked Cal and Frankie, both together a

Another heartwarming and amazing read from Ms. Watson. Frankie Devereux runs a center for teens to come to after school to do their homework and “hang out”. These teens may not have a stable home to go to after school and this gives them a safe place. Frankie was assaulted when she was a teen and knows what it is like not to have such a place. Caleb “Cal” Stewart, football player, physically defended a woman who was being abused and was sentenced to help Frankie at her center in lieu of jail tim ...more

Cal Stewart has to perform community service or go to jail. Frankie Devereaux’s only focus is helping “her kids,” the at-risk teens from her neighborhood, at the after-school center she runs. She doesn’t have time to babysit an over-indulged jock. Both are complete opposites who have one thing in common. They hide behind public personas in order to protect themselves from being vulnerable.

This is their love story, but it’s not without its twists and turns and ups and downs. When confronted by a

OMG. Can Margaret Watson do no wrong when writing a book? Nup. Perfection. This story about Frankie and Cal was amazing and I loved it from beginning to end. Cal is a professional footballer sentenced to 100 hours community service after beating up a guy in a bar. The guy was pushing around a woman and Cal stepped in. Community service or jail. Frankie started and runs the FreeZone community centre after school for troubled kids. That is where Cal is sent for his community service. He doesn't wa ...more
