214 pages of excellent text, filled with great photos. A detailed and intimate account of the area in northern Washington State known as the North Cascades, inhabited by a special, rugged people. The author conducted hundreds of interviews with old-timers, who told their tales of the difficult but exciting lives they forged there. First Edition.
Really excellent overview of the North Cascades and its history.
JoAnn does focus a little too much on the North Cascades Highway, which, to be granted is an important event and highway in the context of the region. I wish she included more information on the indigenous communities and "mountain men" of the region.
