A solid ending to a unique story. I say unique because the traits and powers are different than your average urban fantasy book. I really wasn't sure how this would end, but I can say I'm satisfied. I think more people should have died, but that's just me and I'm used confessing books by George R.R. Martin and you never know who will die. I would definitely recommend this series for older young adult readers.
Phoenix Unleashed by Margo Ryerkerk a five-star read that will unleash your inner Legacy. This is the fifth novel in the Dark Legacy series and as this is the conclusion to the series, I would definitely recommend you read them in order as you get a great story doing it that way. This one picks up after the forth one and it runs away with the plot!! To keep the strength through all five books and just get better and better is a great talent. This is a great story as it will keep you hooked, it will also challenge you about how you feel about people, Sierra mostly, and it makes a compelling story. But its not just her it’s the rest of the team as well, they all pull some part of the story together and make a great read. Do not miss this series as its one that will stay with you and give you a passion for reading.
Sierra, Gavin, Cooper, Pia, Calista and the rest of the crew find themselves in a battle against the newly awaken Bahadur and his minions. Bahadur can make anyone his minion with just a touch. Sierra may be the only one who can stop and stop him she must before he gets his hands on every human on earth before it is too late.
Sierra with all of her friends beside her is battling Bahadur when suddenly she finds everything turning black and she is being pulled down into nothingness. When she awakens she finds herself in a cold dark place with no memory of where she is or how she got came to be there.
As she is slowing becoming aware of her surroundings she realizes that her contact with Gavin has disappeared and she can no longer hear him. Sierra is sad as to her knowledge this can mean only one thing Gavin is no more, he is no longer alive.
Sierra is in a battle against Bahadur to save her friends and the whole world. Can she find the strength and what she needs to defeat Bahadur before he takes over the world and plunges everyone and everything as they know it into darkness?
I have read each and every one of the books in the Dark Legacy series and loved each one just as much as the last only in different ways. All are brilliantly written with lots and lots of magical twists to keep me hanging on and coming back for more each and every time.
I have loved following Sierra watching her come into her magic and then watching her magic grow more and more with each step she took fighting her way the whole way through. This has been a magically enthralling journey one in which I sorely hate to see come to an end.
The characters have all been amazing I have laughed and cried with them, they have made me feel their happiness and sadness, they have made me feel their fear, and they have made me feel as if my heart was going to jump right out of my chest as they are plummeting to the ground.
If you are into magically enthralling reads then you are going to love the Dark Legacy series.
Phoenix Unleashed is the perfect ending for the Dark Legacy series written by Margo Ryerkerk. The author came up with an imaginative plot to pick up where she left of in book four, and she sure left us in a tight spot in that one! There are some very nicely integrated twists that I definitely didn't see coming that unraveled beautifully in this book. The pace of the book was spot on, never dragging out the story nor did it ever feel like the author was trying to rush me through the story. Personally, I find either equally important and it is a very fine balance to strike, and the author in my opinion hit it right on the mark in this book. There is always something happening which keeps you glued to the pages!
Sierra oh Sierra. This character and I have had our hate - love - hate relationship throughout the series, mostly because I have continuously struggled with her actions, which were driven by her maturity which has driven me up the wall. There were moments when she acted like an immature kid, and finally when I found she is growing up, she reverts right back to old habits. I get why she does the things she does, however there are different ways to go about things and the more adult way is just often not hers. So I can see how she drives Gavin crazy.
Gavin, now he has been throughout my favorite character and remains until the end my favorite. He has been very consistent and growing throughout. Yes he has been a bit of a hypocrite here and there, gone a little macho without realizing it, but at least when called on it, he realized his errors and really tried to fix it. I just never got that feeling with Sierra. Pretty much until almost to the end, she would repeat certain things just because she thinks her way is the only way and that is just it.
But, if Sierra was your average perfect heroine, she would be boring and give me less to talk about, so she actually really does her job, and does it well by creating conflict in more than just the usual way. I guess all that makes her also feel more real because lets face it, people like her exist, LOTS!
All in all this was a very fun series to follow and I can recommend it to the ones who love the paranormal. It is different from your usual paranormal werewolf vampire story which is a huge plus in my book. Your main characters are definitely far from perfect which is also a big plus since no one is perfect and showing that makes them more "real".
With Bahadur awake Sierra is determined to stop him but her impulsiveness backfires and they are all in a worse position. So she travels across the world to find a magical object which will give her a fighting chance against him. However he is several steps ahead of her and makes a very surprising move. Will she still find a way to defeat him or is all lost?
Wow this was an explosive final book int he series where Sierra and the rest of the team struggled with setback after setback in their attempts to defeat Bahadur and save the world. Intermingled with that was the story of Sierra and Gavin's relationship and how it was developing, how duty sometimes came in the way as they struggled to find a way to defeat such a very clever and well prepared enemy. Well written it was definitely a fitting ending to the series that kept me guessing right up to the end as to whether they would defeat Bahadur and if Gavin and Sierra would have the time to work on their relationship. A great read.
Whew for a minute there I thought Sierra was a right pain in the butt. For the first part of the book I'm ready to throw her back and so is everyone else. She's all in her head and becoming a detriment to the team. Once she gets her head back in the game then I can stop wanting to choke her out so the team can make some head way. This like the other's in this series is full of intense action and self flagellation on Sierra's part. Her actions become a hindrance this time until she gets her head in the game (I know I'm not the only reader that wanted her taken down a bunch of pegs). I wanted to take Gavin and take care of the boo since Sierra was so busy screwing up and pushing him away (come to momma poppy). The team has to trust in some unknown people and we all know that can't be good. All in all it's a great ending to the series but I would like to see this author take some of the secondary characters we all came to know and love and bring them out.
Book #5 sees our team of heroines & heroes pushed further, & into darker parts of themselves, than anyone could've seen coming 😱😕 To fight the first ever and now immortal Umbra, Bahadur, they don't feel like they have a choice!😢
Sierra & Gavin pull closer together then drift apart yet again when one wants more than the other!🙈 Calista & the silver mirror plays an important role alongside Sierra throughout, as do the lapis pendants!👍
Will the Adere & Umbra societies join together, finally, in the greatest fight for their lives & the planet's? Can Sierra & co finally defeat Bahadur, even if they don't personally survive the battle?😱 There are so many twists & turns in this finale it'll make your head spin but it's an exciting, terrifying, dark & worthy ending that's unmissable!!😍😳🔥
Final book and a perfect ending of a great series! I loved every page of it! It was a page turner, action packed with unexpected twists when you think you know where it goes and Margo proved you wrong. I love it! All the main characters Sierra, Gavin, Calista, Cooper, Pia have grown but specially Sierra, she literally grows in front of your eyes! She became a very strong leader, learning from her mistakes as a reckless girl becoming determined and confident heroine who knows she must do the only right thing the only right way! Perfect! I can't say anything more without giving away spoilers. You must read it yourself! Now is the saddest moment to say goodbyes to this series which I so loved.
The final book did not disappoint!! The team had to go up against Bahadur and it appeared as though they were going to lose because everything they tried they failed. They were not working together and it seemed like they were falling apart. They finally started to come together but was it too late because Sierra was captured....you will have to read the book to find out!! Margo Ryerkerk did a great job with the Dark Legacy series. It is a very unique new take on supernatural powers. I think there is more she can tell in this series, maybe additional story lines for Cooper and Pia. Thanks for a great new series!!
I have followed Sierra and Gavin from the very beginning! This series is such an awesome must read! I loved it! Sierra has fought her way through and is still fighting for both the Ardere and the Umbra. Just when I thought I had it figured out Ryerkerk metaphorically yelled plot twist and changed the direction of what I knew was going on! My interest has been held through all 5 books! Her world building and character growth was outstanding! Sierra grew exponentially through out and that added so much to the story! I look forward to Margo Ryerkerk having a bright future!
In this final book of the Dark Legacy series, Sierra and Gavin, along with others from the regency come face to face with their biggest foe yet. After being imprisoned in the magic well for hundreds of years, Bahadur was revived and on a path to destroy the world. Enslaving humans and giving them supernatural auras, they have their work cut out for them if they have any hopes of saving the world. This has been a great story with plenty of magic and twists and turns, and finally, a perfect ending. Can’t wait to see what’s next for this author!
The last book in the Dark Legacy series, it was a good read. Starting from the end of book 4, the plot continues with the same pace and keeps the reader hooked. Since there is a lot of intrigue in the series I will recommend that people start from book 1 and continue forward.
The ending was good, everything tied up neatly with a beautiful bow. All in all a very good series has come to an end. I highly recommend this series.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Fantastic Story I loved it even though I’ve only read book 1 and this one to the series I had no problem understanding this story and I look forward to reading the other books to this series, this story has come a long way since book 1 and I can’t wait to catch up. Sierra has to find a way to stop Bahadur but he seems to be one step ahead of her, and the ending wow but I’m not going to tell you about that all I’m going to say is that this is an amazing conclusion and I highly recommend this book it’s definitely well worth the read.
Phoenix Unleashed: A YA Paranormal Fantasy Novel: Dark Legacy Series Book 5
I can honestly say that I have enjoyed this entire series and the finale was spectacular. This book was full of danger, twists, suspense, romance and lasting friendships. It kept me on the edge of my seat..wondering what was going to happen next.
I am so glad that Sierra finally realizes that love and happiness can go hand in hand with duty and purpose if she just gives them a chance.
I definitely recommend this book/ series.. you do not want to miss out on this amazing series..
Wow! What a ride and what a fantastic ending to what has been an incredible series. It's well written, flows well and is a great page turner. To say I have enjoyed these books would be an understatement! I look forward to future books written by Margo. I think Sierra developed in to a very strong character and grew up a lot through out the books. Gavin learned a lot about himself and how to work well with his friends and colleagues, to become a great ruler!
This is the well-written and explosive conclusion to a marvelous series with plenty of action, setbacks, twists, suspense, and great characters. The heroine and her cast of characters must battle the darkness before it envelops the world. Great descriptions, development, and world building bring this volume to its readers in vivid detail. I loved it. I voluntarily read an ARC and this is my honest review.
Phoenix Unleashed by Margo Ryerkerk is an awesome story that I have read. This is book number five in this awesome series and I fell so in love with it. This is fast paced with a lot of action in it, it is an awesome YA story with paranormal roamance in it and I highly recommend this to everyone who loves reading these together.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This book was given to me by booksprout. I am leaving this review freely. This is the first book of this series that I have read but I do not feel last as you do sometimes starting in the middle of a series. I love the adventure, self growth, and the growth of the group as a whole. They learn to work together to not only save themselves but so many others as well. I will have to find all the other books so I can read about all the other adventures they were on. Hope you enjoy as well.
Still following Sierra in this series. Where they are fighting to save the ardere and umbra from the ultimate baddie. New plot twists and excitement. Along with self checking questions. Keeps you interested throughout the book. No spoilers here. But I'd recommend ya read it to find out if they survive or not.
I was given the opportunity to read an advanced copy of this book and it was very good. I have enjoyed the entire series and this final book was an excellent completion of it. It was full of danger and suspense, romance and lasting friendships. Margo Ryerkerk is an excellent author and her stories always surprise, entertain and captivate you.
Epic conclusion to this enthralling paranormal series. Another nail-biting adventure! Will Sierra defeat Bahadur in time? I love how the characters have developed throughout the series. This final chapter has everything-romance, danger, plot twists, friendship, not so perfect heroes. I was sad to see it end. I voluntarily read an ARC.
This is just fantastic! Well written this is entertaining, dark and twisted, fast paced and so intense I was biting my nails whilst reading! A YA urban fantasy series that is addictive and you feel as though you are right there with Sierra. Great characters, great world building, this is a must read series with an explosive ending! Would definitely recommend!
This has been a really interesting series. This series was my first to read by this author and she did not disappoint. She created a world that I was able to visualize. I enjoyed the main characters and the reoccurring characters throughout. I look forward to for this author for many more adventures. I received an ARC at no cost from the author.
Bahadur is a formidable opponent for the Ardere in the series finale. Sierra and Gavin’s relationship continues to be tested. As with the other books in the series, Sierra, Gavin, Pia, and Cooper travel across the world as the clock counts down to chaos. The ultimate showdown requires the Ardere to count on unusual resources from unexpected places.
This has been quite a ride and now you come to the end with this fifth book in the series. The author has done a very good job tying up the loose ends and giving a good resolution to the characters. The characters have really had to change and grow as they faced challenge after challenge. I enjoyed the reading experience.
This was a long wait for the fifth final series. I personally feel this book ended too clean, but perhaps there will be a spin off series which would be awesome to see how Pos and Cooper get along or Nora.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I ripped through the entire series, anxious to find out who would survive, who would fall in love, and who would resist the pull of evil. The characters, plot, and setting details are exceptionally well drawn.
Stuck through by the whole series, which was rich in plot, romance and friendships and adventure. Wish Cooper and Sierra never happened and can’t stand Bahadur, but glad all worked out (Cooper and Pia).
