OMG I’m obsessed with this series and the characters. It has everything that your looking for in romance plus more. This is the best gut wrenching, heartbreaking, sexy and heartwarming series. My first really big Ugly Cry was while reading Carnage and I was immediately addicted and consumed! It wrecked my soul and I devoured all the books. This series is a must read!❤️
This series still ties me into knots every time I reread it. I will have Georgia and Sean on the brain for weeks now. These characters are so well written, fully fleshed-out and very real with flaws, and they feel like an extension of my own family! I love how hard they all love and support one another. Combine incredible characterization and a brilliant plot with lots of drama and twists and turns and it's an unputdownable read.
I reckon I have reread this series at least 5 times by now (didn't track all of them) and it's still amazing. I get sucked in every time. This is one of my top favorite series of all time. It's like Lesley picked everything I love and put it into a series just for me.
If you love angst, humor, steam, drama and all THE FEELS, and you haven't read this series yet you are missing out!
Also, I'm so excited after her recent announcement and on a countdown until we get Paige's book.
While many have given this 5 stars, I just can’t. It’s in need of some editing. I don’t often complain about that, but it irked me quite a bit with this one. Georgia (“G/Gia/George”) was frustrating. You would think that she would mature and learn from mistakes but she didn’t. She’s rash and spoiled. Her declarations were annoying. Some of her actions are downright selfish. How the men in her life loved her so much I’ll never understand. Because they were great guys. They had made their mistakes and had flaws, but they owned them. By the time I hit the 50% mark I was losing interest. The story slowed down but I kept going. Never in a million years did I expect it to end so brutally. This is a box set but I see no reason to go past book one.
Honestly, the writing seemed bad, everything was too dramatic, the OM and the heroine had no damn chemistry, and the heroine was a judgemental, hypocritical, slut-shaming bitch who wouldn't know how to adopt what she preaches (namely fidelity) if it bit her in her massive damn tits.
I got bored out of my mind when Cam entered the picture. I loved it before that. But then ....when I started to warm upto Cam, Georgia had to go cheat on him with Sean. I felt like stabbing something at the moment.... preferably Georgia. 😒
I am a combination of angry and angsty after finishing book 1, cuz the ONE AND ONLY thing that I Loved about this book was Sean "Maca" McCarthy. And the author fucked him over multiple times with different subplots and then killed him at the end. And he was still so precious after all that, damn you. 😭 I can't make myself care enough to read the next book which will most probably be about Georgia moving on without Sean.
I just know that I have a really soft spot and a precious bittersweet smile on my face when I think of Sean and the words "I love you, Georgia Rae. Show us ya tits".
I can’t descrobe just how much i loved this series of books! It had me feeling every emotion and suprised me at evey turn. I first lived Sean and Georgia but as soon as Cam appeared I was Team Cam straight away and never stopped throughout. There were times where i disliked Georgia as I thought she was very selfish, even towards the end butI loved the ending and was so happy there was a HEA.
Original Review: 2022 Thank goodness this box set was available, because I don’t know how any previous readers were able to wait between the release of the books. I am NOT okay. This series gutted me. I didn’t know going in what was going to happen. Just have your tissues ready. The love stories in this book series are so well written. You can feel what each of these characters feels. Sean. Georgia. Cam. I’ll be purchasing this, but I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to read the series again.
Updated Review: 2025 It took my three years to be able to reread this series. Three years for my head to overrule my heart to dive back into the story of Georgia, Sean, and Cam. Three years and I'm still Team Tiger.
It's hard to write a review for this series, because I don't want to give away spoilers. This isn't an easy read, at least the first story, The Story of Us. Gia and Sean fell in love when they met as young kids. They grew up together, but nothing happened until they were older. Then Sean and her brother Marley start touring with their band. Sex, drugs, and rock and roll...temptation and excess abound. Mistakes are made. Hearts are broken. Lives are changed.
Georgia is young, at least to me in her mindset, even when she gets a few years older. She's had everything she's ever wanted, she's been a spoiled child and only girl. Her behavior and actions are a result of not knowing how to cope and using things to escape her feelings. Nobody in her life tells her to "snap out of it," they just let her do what she does. Later in the series, we get to see a more mature Georgia, even though she retains her mouthy ways and doesn't back away from confrontations.
I know it's the story of Gia and Sean, but Cam is the one who stood out to me on my first read and still does. He fell and fell hard. He brought Georgia back from the edge and he didn't deserve the treatment he received. When he broke, it hit me harder than everything that came before.
The Carnage series will always be one of my favorites, in part because it provided me with an escape along with characters that have stayed with me through the years. It's one of the two series that I've purchased special editions for because I needed to have them on my shelves, which don't actually exist yet, because I need to buy them in the future.
If you want a story that will take you from young love to forever love, but not make it easy, the Carnage series is it.
The whole Carnage series in one box set - I just had to go and one click. This story, all these wonderful books got me back into reading again and I've never looked back. I can honestly say these books and the characters in them are part of me like one big happy family. I will never forget them and I wouldn't want to because the way Lesley has written these characters and their story grips your heart, squeezes out all the possible emotions that a body can feel.
So many memorable moments that made me cry - lots, but I also found myself laughing and smiling so many times at the antics of the characters. Buying this has made me want to read them all over again and I will because it's like a reunion of hearts and minds; a hug, a few tears and a pint down the pub with my book family, one I can go back to many times.
If you haven't read these books then now is the time to go one click them and settle down for an experience you will never forget. Phenomenal books !!!
This book, is extremely heartbreaking. I couldn’t stop crying and it was the worst feeling. I wanted to throw my kindle and never wanted to continue reading. My honest review is basically me going to be petty. So I won’t do that. The author sure no how to put emotions into a book. Or maybe because I have a similar experience. Not sure. But why why why about Maca. So damn heartbreaking. I hate Cam, really do. I want to say so much more especially about baby M and baby B. My heart tore out with that. I loved it all the way until the accident. Then hated the rest. But, it still is a 5 star. Never wanna read anything like that again. The author really got to the readers, and trapped them into reading a very roller coaster book. Excellent job. Just hate what you did for maca.
OMG what a story!! I don't write many reviews, only when I feel the book is exceptional & these surely are! Such emotion all the way through!
These books centre on the life of an Essex girl from the age of 11 until she reaches her fifties. It's a rock star story , but yet so much more. I loved the way all Georgia's friends & family get their story too and we also see her life from their POV. I think star struck fans of famous people should all read this book as it gives a huge insight from the other side & what damage it can do to people, we are all human beings after all, some just more famous than others. This story would make a wonderful drama series, but like many of these fabulous books won't get made in this country where we can view it. !! Well done Lesley Jones you made me laugh, cry, contemplate & want to read them all over again!
This has to be one of the best books I have read.... it is written so well that it feels so real and pulls you in and makes you feel like you are in the story watching from the inside! I had to stop reading after the first two books for a few days because my emotions were on a high!! I felt everything Georgia did and my mind, heart and soul bled for her and her family!! You are doing yourself a disservice if you don’t read this story these Five books and the one to come out soon (I hope) it a family you want in your life!! Thank you for writing these books and bringing such life, real into them! You have such an epic talent!!
I cannot say how much I love these characters and the world they exist in. I cannot put into words how much I absolutely adore their stories and the intensity of their experiences. The love and passion and angst alone is borderline obsessive in the most beautiful way possible. And the tragedy that ensues is some of the most gut wrenching I’ve ever read. These people are my family. And I love each of them as such. It is a story with so many facets and themes that I ran the gamete of emotions almost with each chapter. This series will forever be one of my favorites!
I don’t even know where to start. Literally devoured this entire series in less than a week. I’ve never been through so many emotions in one sitting in my entire life. Going to be healing from the worse book hangover I’ve ever endured. I loved every page. Every character. Every thing about this series. Marley’s book was a bit of an emotional rollercoaster. I hated him for all the things he kept from his sister but then my heart ached for him as I truly believe he loved Sean more than anyone. I could go on and on for pages about how amazing it is. My new favourite author. Now I’m off to buy every other book she’s wrote
Heartbreaking. Prepare to ugly cry. And laugh out loud. And sigh. And shake your head. Be ready to want to choke some of these characters. There is so much emotion in these books, it is unreal. Love and loss, depression, suicide, violence, addiction, obsession, it is all tackled here. And the characters are human. So human and flawed. It isn't a redemption story, it is more a story about just being human. Making little mistakes, actions having consequences, and living with those consequences. It is about realizing that no one and nothing is perfect.
That was my take away, anyway. I may read other reviews and realize I was way off. Either way, damn good read.
There are no words I could say to sum up how this whole series made me feel. Its a love story but oh so much more. You get to live the lives of all these characters through these books. You cant help but to feel the happy, the sad, the heartbreaking and the joy along the way. If you've never read a Lesley Jones book, start with these and you'll be hooked for life, i guarantee it. *have tissues, snacks, and a babysitter before diving in, you won't want to put these down*
OMG I can’t believe this author put all these stories together. Ugh plan to experience an emotional journey like none other. Rockstars, family, love, loss and the messiness of life are intertwined in this telling. It provides a haunting like none other. My chest gets tight and my heart full as I reminisce of the details of each book. May you fall in love with The Story of Carnage’s Complete Collection just as I did. Happy Reading!
I recently devoured The Story of Carnage: Books 1-5, and it was a thrilling and emotionally charged ride that left me breathless. Lesley Jones has crafted a love story that is both timeless and edgy, with characters that will gut you one moment and reel you back in the next, all in the name of a lifelong love worth fighting for.
What I loved most about this collection was how Jones brought the characters to life. Each one felt real and complex, with its own quirks and flaws that made them all the more relatable. The details and storyline were so well-crafted that I was fully immersed in the world of Carnage from the very first page.
The emotions in this collection run deep, and I have never cried and cheered so much as I followed the characters through their trials and triumphs. But despite the heartbreak, there is always a glimmer of hope and a sense of enduring love that shines through.
I highly recommend The Story Of Carnage: The Complete Carnage Collection: Books 1-5 to anyone who loves a gripping, well-written romance series. It's a love story that will stay with you long after you've turned the last page.
TITLE: The Story of Carnage: The Complete Collection GENRE: Contemporary Romance AUTHOR: Lesley Jones TROPE: Rockstar, TYPE: Series (Boxed set Books 1-5) POV: Dual POV MY RATING: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ / 5
⚠️ Check trigger warnings ⚠️
The boxed set starts with The Story of Us, which was a bit slow for me at the beginning, but as I eased into the storyline of Georgia and Sean's story of love, obsession, betrayal, heartbreak and angst, I was all in. There were moments when the storyline moved slower during the series, but I was hooked once I was invested in Georgia, her family, her friends, and her loves. I was unsure if I would continue with Marley, The Letters and A Different Kind of December, but I am glad I did. Marley did have parts of the timeline that overlapped with the first two books, but I did not find it repetitive with how the story was told and with the new insights. All the books in this set continued to tell the story of Carnage and its members. It was an enjoyable read that I give 4 / 5 Stars. I suggest checking the triggers, as some content may make readers uncomfortable with the topics.
This is an amazing story, it's among my top 5 and I read a lot, like 200 books per year. Kinda of a story that stays with you forever if you know what I mean. I've read all Lesley's books and they are all perfection to me. But CARNAGE is entirely separate category. It's Lord of the rings in contemporary romance category. Full of everything. I bought all her books, so now being available on KU is something you don't want to miss. It is heartbreaking, soulshattering and beautiful but prepare box (es)of tissues. Lesley Jones did a great job and you'll be stuck in this story for a long time. Do not read spoilers, do not stop untill you finish the last one. So looking forward to Definition of Insanity. Love all the characters and I wish I could read it for the first time again and again. 10 stars for bundle on KU, but even if it wasn't on KU it's worth the price. Thank you Lesley for sharing your beautiful imagination with us. Now go write some more, we are waiting 💖💖💖💖💖
I don’t think I have ever read a series that has gutted me so much. I was a complete emotional mess reading these books. A few times I had to put the book down and try to stop my chest from hurting. I could literally feel George’s pain. It was palpable. Yet I couldn’t get enough. I read all 5 in 3 days. It gave me all the feels. Love, laughter, sexiness and utter devastation. I am going to be feeling the story for a long, long, long time. I cannot recommend this serious enough. I loved all the rock and roll mixed in with friendships, love, loss and family. It’s interesting to see how public figures respond to the spotlight behind the scenes. I really enjoyed how the story followed from childhood all the way through their lives. I love that we got to see the story from different points of view from the characters. I could talk about this book forever. Do yourself a favor and READ IT!!!! Oohh Maca, I will dream of you tonight 🥰.
WOW this series, From start to finish it has completely consumed me. Never been so affected by a book 💔💔😭
Firstly it destroyed me. Its all I could think about. Questioning WHY?? WHY DID THAT HAPPEN??? wondering all the what ifs. Iv cried so much throughout each book. The amount of heartbreaks 😭 if book 1 and 2 never wrecked me then Marley and The Letters sure did! Eventually, It healed me, not fully though 🥹 I'm not sure I'm happy with how things turned out (trying not to give anything away) but I still loved it and I'm still so sad A week later.
Would love to have another POV from Georgia i need more. Iv been telling myself they will eventually be back together ❤️ hoping its something I will maybe read one day!
If you read this and I 1000% recommend you do have tissues at the ready at all times. You will need them! I now class this as one favourites., I just wish I could read it again for the first time.
I loved The Story Of Carnage. Well that doesn't seem like a good enough way to explain how much I loved this. It was fantastic, amazing, I feel like I know these characters, like they are family. I actually read Conviction first, loved it, and wanted to know more about Marley and the band. Oh boy, I was never expecting or was ready for this story. I felt soooo much reading this, happy, laughing, sad, crying, sobbing, oh my, my heart is being torn from my chest, I can't see through my tears. Warning: have at least 2 boxes of tissues with you,and maybe don't read in public, unless you look good when you ugly cry. Me not so much. Okay having said all this, I will say READ The Story Of Carnage, it was beyond good, I love ,loved it soooo freaking much. Absolutely beautiful story.
Olay, so I read the first two books and I cried. I legitimately sat here crying for at least 20 minutes and then periodically across the second book. It was heartbreaking, it was funny at times and it was good. One point that I'd like to make is that Georgia is an entirely unlikable character at some points throughout the book. She's a selfish and whiny person that flies off the handle without knowing the full story. This doesn't detract from the story to me because that's just who she was written to be. There was a purpose for why the writer chose to portray her in that light. Cam and Sean were both amazing characters and I love them both equally. I'm happy with how it ended for Georgia, even with the endless flood of my tears.
I can’t even put into words what this series does to me. If you want a more in depth review, I’ve previously written them for each individual book.
This has to be the fifth time I’ve read through this series and it never fails to turn me into a giant, heaving, sobbing mess. I don’t think there is any other book/series or movie that emotionally wrecks me like this one does. I suggest everyone read this series. Even the short novellas are absolutely perfect. The author wrote a masterpiece and was able to do it while also wrapping up the story in such a way that leaves me feeling like I couldn’t even hope for more.
Bravo Leslie! I just wish there were more books like these.
I’ve ignored housework, job, kids, cooking, basic hygiene, etc…. There are no words to explain Georgia, Cam and Sean’s story. I’m in love with a book series I think. I immediately went to Amazon after reading and added the paperbacks to my cart. The first two books deserve a place on a shelf. They are epic! Marleys book gives some insight and while I enjoyed reading more about Georgia and Cam the other books aren’t necessarily relevant. For some reason the name/book covers made me procrastinate for a long time before reading but these books are everything! Highly recommend (but don’t start when life is still happening. Wait until you have free time to soak this story in)
Oh my lord where to begin!! This whole series f**ked me up! I went through every possible emotion and at points didn't know if I could continue with the fill series. But I did, I finished. And I'm so glad that I did. This series, all 5 books will always stay with me. They are hard and emotional, and just absolutely amazing. I loved this series so much, ugh I think ill have to wait a while before being able to do a re-read. These messed me up, in the best way possible ❤️ Lesley Jones, outstanding! This 5 book series, is the first and just the beginning of Lesley Jones books for me. Highly recommend!
This series is an absolute trainwreck emotionally. It has ups and downs and twists and turns that you would not have even imagined and the FMC is kind of annoying in the beginning but she kind of grows on you and you just need to read more to find out what happens next. This series had me laughing, crying, cursing and almost throwing the whole shit in the garbage. But it's so good. It will rip your heart out and shatter it to tiny pieces and then at the end, somehow you get an amazing HEA. It's _not_ an easy read! It's hard emotionally and it will gut you, but it is really good. Just keep reading past the hard stuff! Recommended for those not faint of heart.
this series (books 1, then book 2) broke me in 2014 & 2015. The story is such an emotional rollercoaster that stays in my memories as one of the best ugly cry series. it wasn't until this year that I was brave enough to jump back into the world of Carnage.
And Even though each and every book was an emotional experience, they were worth the heartache and Ugly cry tears.
Ms Jones has a gift for writing emotional believable characters that feel like real people.
This is still my top recommendation for Ugly cry series, and Lesley Jones still is my Ugly cry Queen 👑. all hail her pen and it's ability to rend me into an emotional mess ❣️🫣❣️
I bought the box set and was really into the story. Great story line but very frustrating in going through the emotional roller coaster rides. I was patient in understanding that the main character was young but her actions were very self centered and whiny. After sticking making myself finish the book , it was a huge let down with the sad and depressing ending . Seriously? After all they went through to get back together and then kill him off !!!!!There was no way in hell I would read any of the other books in this series.
I've read this series several times. Its soul crushing, ugly cry, break your heart in a million piece then tape it back together . Its about a family who grows up in England 3boys 1girl. The girl falls in love with her younger brothers best friend who becomes a rock star . Rock star loves girl but you know rock stars . Trust issues arrive girl breaks it off heartbroken the girl falls for a older English gangster. Both Men love her but she chooses one but in the end she ends up with both . One dies tragically .
