New Tarian Pride #2

Tarian Silver Lion

Rate this book
Talon Lawson is a runner. He’s been on the move to keep his daughter safe for years, and now it’s a habit he isn’t capable of breaking. Too long in one place, and his inner lion pushes him to move on. He’s sworn to himself he will only make sure his daughter, Emerald, is settled in her new home with her mate, and then he’ll leave, but something more is anchoring him to the New Tarian Pride. A battle with a rival Pride left him injured, and he was nursed back to health by a quiet, mysterious lioness named Rose. The animal in him says to run before he gets drawn too far into this new Pride, but the man in him can’t stop thinking about the silver-haired beauty.

Rose’s home has been destroyed by a rival Pride of lion shifters, and she’s taken it upon herself to handle everything quietly and alone, like she always does. But when a big, burly, silver lion shifter named Talon falls into her life, she can’t help but find excuses to see him. For the first time in years, a man makes her feel safe, and like everything will be all right. But the cost of war between her Pride and the Old Tarians is steep, and it’s taking it’s toll on the animal inside of her. And the harder she tries to dig the Pride out of the hole that’s consumed them, the more she thinks she might not want to do all of this alone anymore. Broken hearts are for the young though, and Talon is a flight risk. She’ll have to try some new tactics to get this rogue male to stick around--even if it means setting them both free.

Content Warning: Explicit love scenes, naughty language, and piles of sexy shifter secrets. Intended for mature audiences.

🐾 He’d just changed the way she felt about herself, about life, about everything with the simple power of touch. 🐾

There's just something about reading about mature characters that I find absolutely lovely. Okay, more than one thing. The biggest gift is the fact that their stories usually come with no unnecessary drama and this story delivered. It was one part hot alpha silver fox and one part sexy takes-no-nonsense silver vixen. Talon had led a very nomadic life with his daughter, Emerald. He had no choice - running saved her life. Now that she's settled with an incredible alpha of her own, his lion is restless. As much as he'd like to stay, especially because of the bond he's formed with Rose, he just can't stay still. Rose thought her best days were behind her. She'd had a chance at love and when her mate passed, she figured she'd had enough. Fierce and independent, she had accepted her lonely lot in life. And then Talon happened and her loneliness became a thing of the past.

🐾 There is nothing sexier than a woman in her prime who has the confidence of experience and the strength that comes with having to figure life out on her own. 🐾

Talon and Rose were insanely sweet together. He was there for her in every way, whether to protect her or to fix things around her house. And she was so perfect for him. Their love was pretty instant and yet felt so organic to the story. Was there ever any doubt that these two would end up together after seeing their sweetness in the previous book? I'm on board for everything this series has to offer and I'm curious to see whose happiness comes next.

Okay, this is probably one of my favorite books by T.S. Joyce!

I LOVED that the protagonists were a mature couple.

Thank you T.S. Joyce for writing a book about people who were older than 40, could still find love, and then you added a little erotica for a bonus.

Kudos!

Sweet story.

My only complaint is that I didn't really care for the heroine repeatedly musing over how "old" she was. Age is just a number. 3 stars

*WARNING* contains explicit love scenes and cursing.
Rose at 62 has had and lost her mate. Rose is safe in the New Tarian Pride and is lonely, but she is strong and can deal handle anything.
Talon is mostly healed from the recent war with the Old Tarian Pride. Talon just wants to stay around to make sure his daughter is completely settled with her new mate. Talon knows his lion will always be a roamer, but something about Rose makes him wish for something different.
The thing I liked most about this was the ages. She is 62 and he is 57, shifters always have extremely long lives, older ones should have a story too, everyone deserves happiness. This story was heartbreaking, they both did what they got the same of the other and ended up hurting themselves. This story was short, but beautiful.

AGE IS JUST A NUMBER🌹

Mending bodies and unsuspected broken hearts. If that statement makes sense, then you'll understand that love isn't caught up or suspended because of age. Like they say "I'm older but not dead," age is just a number, your as old as you feel. You dress the way you feel, something will tell you if it's fit your style. Talon The Wanderer, who was protecting his family from the crazies of the Pride hierarchy, who were killing their own, a form of genocide, culling out the ones they felt weren't useful to the Pride...scary but realistic in the animal world, this also includes humans..the genocide in Germany and Africa..heartbreaking.
Talon and Rose are good together and they certainly didn't let their age get in the way of them satisfying each other. I say to everyone else
"stay in your lane and stay out of grown peoples business" right??? Talon and Rose enjoy that smooth riding Chevy Chevelle...to bad they stopped making those "road hogs" missed them.
Anyway these different "shapeshifters" represent just about the entire animal kingdoms, and they are vicious if you get on their bad side. Scary but loyal, and I enjoy reading how they interact with each other..Life goes on in many forms...

Loved that Talon and Rose were older characters (57 and 62 respectively). I would have loved a full-length novel about them because we don't get great stories about characters in this demographic often. But I did enjoy the story that we got. Just would have loved more, because I really liked Talon and Rose.

This one was a fun one to read. I liked how both Talon and Rose were so stunned that they found something with each other. But the best was how the rest of the New Tarian pride reacted. The bit with the post cards broke my heart, even as sweet as it was.

There just wasn’t enough...

I know this is a novella, and a novella is a short story, but to me there just wasn’t enough...
I really liked Rose and Talon, and there just wasn’t enough...
These were two very interesting characters, two older MC’s with ages you rarely if EVER get in a book or story...
Not just two grey haired guardians there/here to protect those younger than them or to just stand around imparting wisdom to those willing to listen. Not there to just tell the younger ones to do this or that.
No for once we get the privilege of seeing that being older can still be alive and sexy and vital in ways that are about seeing you still have a life to live and you can see feel sexy and desired and loved....
But Sadly out of the 13 chapters in the book, only in the first five do actually get to have the H and h together,( well of course til they are reunited for their HEA that for me felt more like a HFN with how it was done) .
Just five chapters together out of 13 ,one sex scene, they’ve barely started to get together and barely started to relax with each other and become couple, when they are parted..
Sorry the spoiler there, but it kinda ticked me off...
Now while I can understand why they get separated and it might have been ok, if IF they didn’t back together just a scant few pages before the book ended...
WTH?!?!?
For once, ONCE the H and h are actually grown up and older, and we get a chance to read a about a couple who have life experience and we can hopefully get a new/different take on loving and romance with ppl who have lived life and hopefully have more sense than all the young and foolish 20 somethings we ALWAYS get in these books...
Bitter ? Yeah a little... I’m over 40, and PNR is my fave type of romance to read, and shifters in particular ... Lord, if we could be one mI’d love it. Though hopefully one a 100% less troubled than the shifters Ms. Joyce usually writes about.
I was soo excited when I saw this, both MC’s are older than me but you rarely see older MC’s in PNR unless it’s a shifter or Vampire or maybe a Fae and then it’s usually the H because his h is some clueless 18-22 yr. old virgin.
To many books act like a h over 30 is a “ mature” or older woman, gah. I kid you not I once tried ( yes tried) to read a story where the heroine was only 32 but has the nerve to call herself a “cougar” and tried to reject the H because he was 27.
Seriously ? That was sooo dumb.
Anyway, sorry for the rant, I should be sticking to the facts.
This is a wonderful story about to lost and hurting souls finding each other and getting together but to me it’s dearly hurt by it brevity.. Stories where we get to see two ppl w/some grey in their having fun and being sexy and enjoying life as just ppl is soo rare and far between for most there story for them to be apart and then end five seconds after they get back together is just wrong...
We deserved more and soo did they.
Nice story but to me it’s a desperately incomplete one.

Pretty good.

This was a decent 2nd book in this new series by T.S. Joyce. I liked that the featured couple was older and still romantic, sexual beings. It did bother me that their deceased mates were barely mentioned. It seemed a little too easy for Talon and Rose to move on from their late mates. I realize that it was difficult for them to really get together at first because of Talon being a rogue and Rose not wanting to get attached, which was realistic, but I mean in regards to their first mates it seemed too simple. Their late mates deserved more consideration, at least some hesitance or more thought or something. It's perfectly reasonable that they find new mates, but I wish it was done differently just in this area. Otherwise, I enjoyed the story and look forward to more in this series.

Reviewed at Shifter Haven

Every time I download the newest T. S. Joyce release I’ll tell myself it cannot possibly be better than the last one… and every single time I am wrong. The newest release has always passed what came before in writing, in character development and in the creation of this unique universe. Yet, sometimes there is a gem a diamond in the rough that sticks out for me… and TARIAN SILVER LION is just that diamond for me.

We’ve known Rose, Grim’s grandmother, from several stories back. She’s been an important secondary character in several stories, and her presence in the story has made it richer, more believable. But in TARIAN SILVER LION, oh my stars, how she shines as the main character, half of a couple that simply blows away any idea that age matters in steamy, sexy times or in finding true, fated love one more time. I liked this feisty, yet serene woman in previous books… I loved her in this one, she truly comes into her own with Talon.

Talon has been through hell in the recent battle. His injuries were severe, and it has been Rose who has nursed him back to health – even when fighting her own battles and tending her own wounds. She might think she’s past the need for a mate, but she can still admire a mighty fine man’s form. She’s not dead yet. And as Talon regains consciousness and understands what’s happened around him that attraction is going to go both ways… and burn hot as well. Now, if this were only a sultry romance between two older shifters… that would be a great story. But, no… there is depth here that is as delightful as it is unexpected.

Talon is a runner. In order to protect his young daughter and wife years ago, he took them on the road, moving from place to place not allowing them to have a permanent home for fear of attack. Now his cat is accustomed to moving on, to not staying, because there was nothing to stay for. Now Rose and Talon are burning hot romantically, but Talon is beginning to hear his cat’s insistence of it’s time to move on. Rose has no expectations, she’s known from the start that Talon has been a runner, he is free to come or go as he needs. She loves him, sees him as her second chance fated mate but she will not bind him to her. Probably the most beautiful love story I’ve ever read was Talon’s postcards to Rose after he left. Because he really couldn’t leave her so postcards became their connection. I’ll leave it there for there are parts that I don’t want to ruin for any other reader. Yet, that connection, that obvious show of their love and need for each other was priceless and beautiful to read.

I loved TARIAN SILVER LION so much. It’s full of a great story, solid characters, a believable situation, some sexy times, some absolute laugh out loud moments at the reactions of the younger set, and a love story that will bring tears to your eyes and a warm smile to your lips. This is one of my all-time favorites in the Damon’s Mountains Universe I think there’s a good chance you’ll think so, too.

I read this title through my Kindle Unlimited subscription.

I want to start by saying that I LOVE this author. I have loved almost every story that she has written and she's an auto-buy author for me. But this.... this was not my favorite story. It had nothing to do with older characters, which I honestly thought was going to give me pause.

My problem with this story was that I didn't feel the attraction/chemistry with the couple. Most of the early attraction happened off the page for Rose while she was healing Talon. I just didn't feel the same connection that he was supposed to have with her.

I know that we know some of Rose's background from Grim's books, but I felt like there was too much of Talon telling me how strong and badass Rose is. That's the thing I've been coming back to in the last few of these novels. There isn't enough showing me how badass the women are. You're just telling me they are from the men's mouth. It's his words and not the actual actions of the female character herself. The perfect example of showing me how strong a female character is instead of having the man tell me with his words is with Alison and Kirk (Boarlander Silverback) or Georgia and Jason (Gray Back Ghost Bear). They both had amazing badass moments.

I know how hard it is to write and finish one book, never mind 12+ books a year, I honestly don't know how she does it. But I do wish that we got to spend a little more time with the characters in the stories like I felt we did with the older Damon's mountains books. They might be the same length but the stories felt deeper and more rich than they do now. :(

I really loved the fact that older people can have HEA's too...even after losing mates years before. I dont know what it was about this but it was ok for me. I think perhaps we're used to getting a whole story but since this was a shorter novella we didnt get all we wanted from it. Loved Rose and Talon I truly did. I also wanted that chemistry we feel in her other books but maybe it was the age thing and that its not a true mate thing but finding someone you are drawn to and come to love...just simple as that. Both of them have tragedy in their lives. Talon almost died in the last book. Hes only there to be sure his daughter Emerald is settled and he's moving on because thats what he does. He's a lone wolf except he's a lion haha and has been for years. Rose suffers quietly...so lonely even if its by her choice as well to be separated from the pride. I have to say this wasnt a favorite but I didnt hate it. I dont feel we got what Talon and Rose deserved but hey you really cant blame the author in this sort of scenario. Characters will speak to you and tell you a story and sometimes it is what it is. I very much liked that we did get Talon and Rose's story and I cant wait for the next Tarian Pride book.

Too short! These two extremely adorable characters where wasted on such a brief story. They had us all set up for 1) an excellent hurt/comfort with her healing him slowly day by day and 2) him and her rebuilding the house together over the course of several weeks, not to mention both of them had great side stories with Talon learning to let his daughter go and Rose helping the lionesses they saved re-integrate into normal life. Give me that full length novel please. But it is cut extremely short and we skip to the end, where the idiot pride leader gives the main dude some awful advice and the only actual soul searching and character development finally happens. It wouldn't be so bad except these two are SO cute, they are excellent characters who have lived through a lot, still have a lot to learn, and teach each other and the pride, and this felt like an abridged version of their story. Rose and Talon should not just have their own full-length novel but their own series.

Points for having actual romance and naughtiness, and not badly written either. Just wanted this to last much longer, I felt like I got 1/10th of a (probably very good) story. Can't say it was especially good when I can imagine so many other great parts that just weren't written.

Tarian Silver Lion

This book definitely works on having a more mature woman's POV, and I think it mostly succeeds. The MMC needs to go ramble and figure himself out and she is old enough to redirect her focus and be patient. I loved the post cards and the map. Again, the patience they approach themselves and each other with speaks to life experience.

I also appreciated this,

“When you get to our age, there is so much history behind us. So much story. And I don’t know if it’s the same for you, but I can lie awake every night and regret, overthink, and remember. And I have to pull myself back to the here and now because I’m not done yet.”

This is for real. “...regret, overthink, and remember”. Bringing oneself back to the present is such an important practice. I often consider that I'll probably live another 30 years and when I think about everything that happened in the last 30 years, I'm amazed. There's no road map like when you are younger - go to school, get married, raise kids, work, work, work. Over 50 and especially after retirement, you have to make it all up from scratch. I'd like to see this author explore aging main characters some more in the future.

This is the second book in the series and they should be read in order. This book is on the shorter side and focuses on Rose and Talon (Emerald’s dad). Both have had a mate before and didn’t think they would get another one. Talon is a rogue lion and his lion has been wanted to go but he has been staying make sure Emerald is settling in okay. Rose and Talon are drawn toward each other but will it be enough to get Talon’s lion to stay put? I read this book in one sitting and couldn’t put it down. I love all of T.S. Joyce’s books and this one was no exception. I can’t say enough about her or her books. This book was a sweet romance but it still had its bumps. Rose doesn’t attach easily but when she does, she never let’s go even if the other person leaves her. She knows she is taking a risk on Talon but can’t help it. It was great getting to read more about Emerald and the girls as well. I can’t wait for the next book.

Rose doesn't want to fall for Talon, especially knowing he has wanderlust. Shes happy with her life but begins to find herself longing for someone to share it with again.

This was sweet. I didn't hate the age of them both as much as I thought I would. Rose is a strong lioness and I thought they were a good match together.

Sweet Love!!!

OMG, this was the sweetest love story ever. I’m so happy that the main characters were of a particular age where people assume there is no more love and definitely no more sex!! I loved this story, Talon and Rose had amazing chemistry and their romance was playful and cute. It was really sweet how everywhere Talon realized that his home and his love was within Rose. This is a really quick read, great sex scenes, something to look forward to when I am in my 60’s.

Talon, the ole silver fox, sexy beast was everything thing Rose needed. He gave her her confidence and her smile back and made her feel sexy and wanted. And in turn she made him love again and wanted to belong to not only him but he wanted a home, what’s the saying, home is where the heart is, and his heart belonged to Rose.

DAMON’S MOUNTAINS SERIES REVIEW

I wasn’t planning on reviewing these books at all, but given the fact that I’ve been completely OBSESSED with them for the past month, it feels wrong not to write something. So in the end I decided to write a general series-wide review that I’ll put up on each book because that’s how much fun I’ve had reading these.

Let’s do this.

OKAY listen. These books are straight up trash. They are. Romance drama trash to the max. But there’s no denying how freaking entertaining these things are. They’re hilariously funny, extremely cute, filled with action (some more than others), and packed with grade-A soap opera drama. Some of the novels are better than others, but if you need to go brainless for a while and just read something fun, these are the books you need.

All the characters are out-of-this world awesome, but the real thing that sets this series apart is the world building. Joyce has created such an elaborately rich universe with all these characters and I am 100% here for it. I love love love how everything overlaps and that we get to see all of our favorite characters even long after their books are done.

To help keep everyone straight, I even created a family tree spreadsheet like a NERD (Willa would be so proud) which you can view here. Just beware of spoilers.

Nerd alert!

FINAL WORD

These books are insane trash and I’ve loved every second. If you’re needing some laughs and romance, look no farther my friends. It’s worth the Amazon Kindle Unlimited free trial just to get your hands on these.

Don't take No for an answer.

Just because your "old" doesn't mean you shouldn't have your chance at finding love.
Even if you've loved before, doesn't mean you can't love again and even if you aren't stable doesn't mean you won't be eventually.

Those few things are what I loved most about this short Novella in the Tarian Pride.

At 62 Rose is one badass lioness, she's been to hell and back with her Grandson Grimm, and the Old Tarian Pride and now, now she's ready for Talon Lawson.

Talon can't stay still, after spending most of his daughters life on the run to protect her, his lion doesn't understand home but one things for sure Rose is about to teach him.
And how they get there, is spectacular.

Tarian Silver Lion is the second book in the New Tarian Pride series. The main characters are Rose who is Grim’s grandmother, and Talon who is Emerald’s dad.

I enjoyed getting a story about Rose and Talon, especially since they were a little older and more mature. It was actually sweet how they were with each other and I was glad to see Rose find happiness.

My only complaint is that I hate that the book wasn’t longer. I would have liked to have seen more of Rose and Talon working on her home or merely spending time together. There also could have been a little more interaction with the rest of the pride members which would have lengthened the story. I think this book is only a little over 100 pages and I just wanted more.

For those of us who aren’t done yet.

Oh man, this one hit me hard. I’m a sucker for things that break my heart, and this one did. If you’re older like me, read this. If you love stories of healing and hope, if you’ve ever had the colors in your life fade, if you’ve lost someone, read this. If you think you’ll never love again, if you’re hurt inside, or you just need a good cry, read this. I actually wish this was a longer story, because I would have liked to read where things went from there. I won’t spoil the story, but it’s sad and warm and heartbreaking, and healing all at once, and I have to admit there were some spots that had me laughing like an idiot. I might just have to read those parts again!

You WANT the Best, of Wer's or Shifters?

You can find the BEST right here in ANY Book of any of the series this Author has or will be written.. You can take that to the Bank. I haven't read them all yet, but I'm pretty sure I will NOT read a bad one. I know I have close to 87% of the title's that have been written. I hope I live long enough to get through what has been so far. I always get what I like in a Really great book when it's written buy you. A great plot, a bit to make me cry, to make me shed a few tears, to make me want to punch someone, to really make me laugh. Keep Up the good work. Always a 10.

Short and sweet story with a lovely mature couple as the H’s.
As much as I loved how this played out, I felt the ending was rushed with nothing added after Talon returns to Rose.
So, the first 50% we have these two together getting sexy and connecting.
Second 49% is Talon’s rogue lion pushes him to leave, which he does. Rose pines, pubs his postcards up but accepts he needed to leave as she knew he would.
We then get the quickest ending which does a disservice to these two.
Now I am sure we will have more of them in future books but I still feel Rose, Talon and the readers were cheated out of a good HEA.

Age is Like a Fine Wine

As with all of TS Joyce's books, I had to read it all in one day. The characters reel you in. This one especially because it is about a couple who are older. My heart swelled as Rose realized that she still had a lot to give a man and that it was OK to let herself care. Talon had to learn that he could have a home and that the home that he needed was Rose. Like all of the characters in her books, Rose and Talon are perfectly flawed and perfect for each other. I look forward to each new story!

Never too old for ......

Rose finally gets her 2nd chance. She lost her mate, had to watch her grandson be turned into the Reaper, thought the other child she helped raise was murdered. She believed love and romance was only in her past. Until she meets Talon.

Talon and his mate went rogue to save their daughter. Now his mate is dead, his daughter has found her mate, and his lion is screaming at him to run. But sometimes there are 2nd chances.

Once again the author had me laughing, crying, and laughing harder again.

Tarian Silver Lion

Talon is Emerald's father. He was badly beaten and released the day the old Tarian Pride took Emerald. Ronin and Grim's grandmother Rose took care of Talon as he healed. Talon is a Rouge hes used to being on the run. Rose is a lioness living outside the Pride's land. When talon takes ride home one night he sees what the old pride has done and wants to fix it. He's falling for rose but his lion wants to run. What's two lonely people to do? Will talon listen to his lion or not? Great read.

T.S. Joyce does it again!

Words that come to mind for this read ... Swoon, love, strong, independent, life and age is just a number .... So yes, I'm obsessive compulsive when it comes to this author's story line... I simply must read it right then and there and she never lets me down... The writing talent is beyond words... The covers never disappoint... If you haven't read her then what are you waiting for 😉 and if you have then you know it's a slam dunk...
