Such a fantastic first book from J.A Burton.
It was wonderful to read about a man we’ve heard about, but actually know very little.
I’m a fan of historical fiction and will be happy to wait for what this new author writes next.
So if you want a book so well written you get lost in the pages, this is for you.

An intriguing perspective on the early years of Leonardo da Vinci

The author has produced a compelling and intriguing fictionalized account of Leonardo's childhood and youth, with a surprising twist at the end. The first part of the novel conveys the mixed emotions of a young child, born outside of wedlock and subject to the domineering whims of his father, a powerful notary in Florence. Ser Piero, whom Leonardo refers to exclusively as Ser, considers the young Leonardo as insurance for the event

Beautifully written! This unique multiple perspective tale keeps you on your toes as you navigate Leonardo Da Vinci’s early life in Renaissance Italy through the eyes of Leonardo and those who are most influential in his life. The converging storylines, dreamy setting, and realistic characters paint a vibrant fictional depiction of the missing facts of Da Vinci’s life.
Though a fascinating take on a figure we all know so little about, First Born is more than a novel about Da Vinci - it explores

This book is a fabulous incite into the early and previously unheard of life of Leonardo Da Vinci. It tells of the struggles since birth as a bastard, then his unjust treatment of flogging and jail just for being gay. Don’t miss this wonderful book. I await J. A. N. Burton’s next novel.
