A Joyfully Jay review.

Hearts of Fire drew me in with its premise, and the story does have interesting paranormal elements; however, all the pieces don’t connect as well as they should. For me, the entire story comes across as a bit one dimensional, from the worldbuilding to the characters; there isn’t much for me to invest in. Luca is your typical century-old being—arrogant, worldly, and aggressively protective of his mate. He, of course, softens when he mates Tanner, but again, that’s tr

Hearts of Fire is the first book in a new series.

Tanner is a lone wolf shifter. Being kicked out of the pack by his Father because of his sexuality, he is struggling to find a new path in this unplanned journey. Whilst running in the woods one evening, he comes across Luc - a dragon shifter, who had been caught in a beartrap. He warily assists Luc's escape. Shortly after their meeting, Tanner needs to find work and applies for a job and finds Luc owns the company and he is hired on the spot. Luc

This appears to be the first book in a series and if the rest of them are as good as this one it will be a great series. I loved the book, it is full of action and tension with outside sources that cause for alarm. Tanner is an alpha wolf that has been banished from his pack by the alpha, his father, because he announced he was gay. While on his own, he comes across a dragon shifter that is caught in a bear trap but is too weak to release himself. Tanner hunts for food and returns it to the drag ...more

3.5 Stars. I did enjoy this book but there was so much happening in such a short amount of pages that I think we lost out on some character development especially for Luca.

I liked both the MC's but I couldn't get a lock on Luca's character. Sometimes he was super dominate and others he wasn't and well if I'm honest the same thing with Tanner. It seemed the author couldn't decide which one she wanted to be the most dominant so she kept flip flopping instead of either picking or making them both d

I really enjoyed this, full of action, an easy read that you don’t want to put down. Likeable leads and great chemistry, first in a series I’m interested to see where these lead. If they’re as fun as this one I’ll be there

Title: Hearts of Fire
Author: Kay Doherty
Rating: 3 stars
Genre: Paranormal romance
Trigger Warnings: (ones found at the beginning of the book: homicidal & suicidal ideations, violence and gore) ones that I found: gruesome animal deaths and some homophobia.

I am a big fan of NineStar Press and I am always on the lookout for the new books they release. I am also a sucker for shifter stories and soulmates (it's a weakness), s

Dragon shifters and werewolves aren't supposed to mix, let alone mate but that doesn't stop Luca Duray from wanting shy and quiet Tanner McBane. Hiring the werewolf to be his assistant is just Luca's first step in convincing the wary Tanner to take a chance. But Tanner's family isn't happy about their relationship and his abusive father is determined to stop them at any cost. I'm a big fan of shifter romances so I was excited for this one but ultima

Good start to a new serial.

Hearts of Fire is the first book in a new serial by Kay Doherty and I really enjoyed it. You may wonder why I used the term serial instead of series. It's because this book has a cliffhanger and in my mind these types of books are not really series because the story is not concluded in this book.

I don't usually read books with cliffhangers unless I know the author's work well. I've been burned too many times by cliffhangers where the second book never comes out, or ta

I like shifter books and the chance to read a book with wolf and dragon shifters mating was too good to pass up.

Tanner was disowned by his pack for being gay, and while he needs a pack eventually, he's doing his best to take care of himself on his own. While out hunting, he comes across a dragon shifter that is injured. After warily helping the dragon, he goes his separate way never expecting to see the dragon shifter, Luca, at a job interview. Luca has been happy to be alone, but the

This is an exciting and entertaining start to a new series and I really enjoyed it. It is well-written, intense, fast-paced, full of action and danger, the storyline is intriguing and the characters are great. The world building is excellent and I like how different it is from other shifter books I have read. Tanner and Luca are a wonderful couple with a strong connection and amazing chemistry

Received from Netgalley. Not much I can say about this one. Its one of those sweet feel good romances about pack and mates with a brewing plot. I liked both Tanner and Luca as well as Ross and Deacon. Didn’t like either family. The ending was a nice little surprise teasing book 2. Looking forward to the next one.
I feel like this book could have been better and that it was unnecessarily dramatic. They sort of explained why they were fighting against their own paranormals but the scene was so short and had no details that I was a little disappointed/ confused.

It was okay

Honestly I could of lived with or without it. I think the story was rushed so the characters were not as developed as they could of been. I won't be reading next in series

The first book in the Chevalier series, Hearts of Fire is an encouraging start. It has a nice paranormal element and although a lot seemed to be happening, I am hoping the gaps will be filled in later books. I will be reading more of this series

Rating: 4 stars out of 5

This is one of those stories with a ragtag group of shifters that are brought together by circumstances. The thing is that everyone says it’s wrong but won’t give any reasoning behind it. Once they learn about the past they refuse to let the past repeat itself.

Tanner is so strong in his own right though he doesn’t know it and gets even stronger with Luca by his side growing their bond and his bond with the pack.

I thought that this was a good story.

It had strong characters that worked really well together and I enjoyed getting to know them

I thought that the story flowed very well and it was really easy to read

Four stars from me for this one, highly recommended and I have to say I enjoyed this story very much!!

This one was short (less than 150 pages) but it wasn’t lacking. It started with Tanner helping Luca in the forest and didn’t slow down from there. From their initial meeting to discovering what they were to each other, a lot happens in Hearts of Fire. Tanner was a true alpha, but since he was disowned by his pack, he could easily lose himself without that pack connection. When he lost his pack, he never expected to find a new one who needed him as much as he evidently needed them.

Good, interesting read. I like this world the author is creating.

I wouldn't mind a bit more detail. I do like when authors leave a little space for the reader to fill it in themselves but some things were just left a little too ambivalent here and my imagination couldn't completely fill in the gaps.

The characters are likeable; I think we could've gone a little deeper into Luca and Tanner. Got a bit more on their personalities, history.

My attention was held until the end thanks to the pace and mo

Light hearted easy read. Enjoyable characters and plot. A little bit over the top a lot of the time, but that's pretty standard for the genre.

I really enjoyed this one! I was immediately dragged into the story, all of the characters and the storyline were really well thought out, and the story was engaging. It’s not every day you come across a wolf/dragon pairing so it was a nice change, not to mention the “power” involved. I think this is going to be a very interesting and neat series. I love Tanner and Luca, and their new pack! I’m really looking forward to the next book!

While on a run, Tanner comes across a dragon shifter stuck in a bear trap. Though wary, Tanner helps him and goes on his way, not knowing he is irrevocably tied to the shifter. Luca, however, immediately perceives his connection to Tanner and when Tanner shows up in his office, he hands him the job as his executive assistant.

Though happy to have a job, Tanner is unable to get a bead on his enigmatic boss, which he assumes, along with his physical attraction, is the

The main characters of this story were compelling and interesting. I loved Luca and his developing relationship with Tanner. I loved the subverted expectations when Tanner ended up being more dominant.

However, I found the story rushed, especially the development of the secondary characters and their relationship with Tanner. It felt so forced. They went from just meeting to willing to die for each other in the blink of an eye, and even with the whole pack thing it lacked the development necessar

Fast and entertaining

Tanner helps out Luca when he's trapped and unknowingly forms a bond with him, one that could be dangerous.

The story is interesting enough to keep you hooked from the first page to the last. i think through out this series one would get to see how the group of misfits bond together.
the writing is easy to follow and it flows well, i loved the connection between Luca and Tanner and the way they submitted to each other wholly.
I am interested in seeing were the story goes and so
