Rate this book
She vowed to serve and protect. But her forbidden magic could push her to the wrong side of the law…

Enforcer Annia Melcott should be dead. The only reason she made it back to Solantha in one piece is because of the deal she made with the spirit of an ancient, powerful shaman. Ready to return to her normal life of fighting crime, there’s only one problem: magic is illegal, and the new powers churning inside her are begging to be used.

If Annia wants to reclaim her place as one of the city’s top enforcers and keep herself out of prison, she’ll have to learn to hide her magic. But when Annia finds herself neck deep in a case with a rising body count, she’s going to have to choose between sacrificing the innocent to protect her secret, or heading down a path that could get her locked up for life…

Tempted by Magic is the first book in the kick-ass Mischief and Magic urban fantasy series, a standalone spin-off from the bestselling Baine Chronicles series. If you like snarky characters, page-turning action, and no-nonsense heroines, then you’ll love New York Times Best-selling author Jasmine Walt’s mayhem-packed tale.

So nice to visit this world again. Jasmine Walt has done an excellent job World building in these books and to be able to now see it through another character’s eyes is a wonderful way to continue the series. Having read the first series, and this book I cannot wait for the next. I would definitely recommend reading the first books however, you will get way more out of this book and many things will make more sense if you do that first. It has been like visiting old friends and never wanting to leave. I love the strong, independent female character, the hints at future romance, and the hope that her family will be able to heal, all while trying to navigate through many changes in society and personally.

I am yet again so happy to be back in this world, and I love it! Annia, and I can’t believe I’m saying this, might become a favorite for me over Sunaya. She is uncomfortable with the magic her new “body mate” wields, but because of certain events, she must overcome this reluctance. I was heartbroken about why she did, but I’m glad she did. Now, I’m looking forward so much to her adventures with everyone in the next book. This book was a well-written addition/offshoot of the Baine Chronicles, and if you liked those, you’ll like this one! I highly recommend this book and was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.

A fun, dark ride through The Baine World!

Tempted by Magic: a Baine Chronicles World novel (Mischief and Magic Book #1) by Jasmine Walt is a fun, darker ride through the Baine World. I recommend if you enjoyed Sunaya’s books but are looking for something a little darker.

Minimal spoilers below…….
………………………
……………..
…………
……….
……

..
.
Some things to expect: Annia’s own adventures that are intertwined in Solantha life (you get small visits from previous characters), a possible love interest for Annia (or so I hope it turns into that in book #2), magic, shifters, enforcer work, enemies, steampunk elements, and lots of action.

If a strong female lead is what you’re looking for, Annia is it! I said this in my novella review- this series is a little darker than The Baine Chronicles, so beware going in. If you are not sure, check out Called by Magic: a Baine Chronicles World Novella (Mischief and Magic Book 0). For those who want to dive in and are not familiar with The Baine World, there is a glossary in the back to help familiarize yourself with the world.

I’m loving this series and cannot wait the future installments (I’m ready for at least five books, can we make that happen Jasmine?). I finished this book in less than 24 hours.

Parental warnings/trigger advisory: death, fighting, swear words throughout- s x10, f x19, hell x29, damn and pissed used numerous times as well, kiss on the mc’s knuckles from a guy, multiple pregnant women, sex slaves (being held prisoners/naked), mention of rape at a party (Annia hunts the guy down who raped the girl), gang activity, torture of a young man that results in death.

Annia is back and it looks like lots of change is coming her way! Thanks to Sunaya Annia has some protection concerning her new jewelry, but thanks to Garalina helping her here and there with some magic it’s bringing down some heat that Annia really doesn’t need on her job. She’s got a shifter with a major attitude problem gunning for her, and it’s creating some serious problems. Add in a Tua named Broghan and things just keep getting better and better.
Tempted by Magic is book one in Jasmine Walt’s Mischief and Magic series and this book is such fun! The characters are dynamic, the situations dangerous, and sprinkled throughout are more than a few funny moments. Annia is reluctant to use the magic that is afforded her by Garalina, but when the situation calls for it, she uses it. I have to say that I find the Tua Broghan to be so much fun! I absolutely love him. Even if he does bring some mischief down on Annia accidentally. I have to say that I’m REALLY hoping for some romance between Annia and Rylan! He’s absolutely got my vote at this point! LOL!
There isn’t anything that I don’t like about this book! I devoured this book as quickly as I could! Yes! It is THAT good! I like how engaging the characters are and how true to life that they are. They are flawed, but well done and it really makes the story.
I am rating this book 5 out of 5 stars. I can’t wait for the next book in this series! If you read the prequel to this series and enjoyed it then I highly recommend that you grab this book up!

Surviving certain death by making a pact with ghost is not the end of story. It's the beginning.
Especially in the environment where usage of magic by non-mages is looked upon and dangerous.
Annia is back at the Enforcers guild, only to find the unpleasant structural changes limit her options, and is forces into an ongoing fight with a colleague who sees her as a threat for getting the leadership position of the third squad. Joining her forces with Rylan, Annia is determined to solve a difficult case that can't go without costs on lives and realization the magic at her fingertips is actually an asset to be used..
A great story, fast pacing adventure with elements of mystery and suspense, set up in a great fantasy world. Enjoyable and even fun dialogues are well balanced with description, and the action moves the plot forward at amazing pace. There are even subtle hints of romantic interest involved, though the emotional focus lies elsewhere. Is it however a huge advantage to read the Baine chronicles prior to this series as this is a sequel series based on the story and world building already presented there, starring one of the side characters. I loved the book and am already waiting for the next one.

Jasmine Walt has done it yet again. She has written yet another book I was incapable of putting down until it was finished.

This book follows a personal favorite of mine from the Baine Chronices. Her name is Annia and shes a downright baddass. We get to follow her journey of assimilating back into Solantha and learning how to live with her new "friend" (all of which is explained the the baine chronicles which you should also read!!). We also get to see some old favorites like Naya and a whole lot more of Rylan (who I hope we will continue to see more of.) This is a fantastic start into a whole new chapter of these characters.

I don't want to give away any spoilers and honestly you are probably going to be super mad at me if I do because the book is that good.

But it's well written, has awesome characters, is building character relationships that I need to know where they are going right now, and has left me with a whole lot of questions that I hope will be answered in future books of the series.

So with that being said, read this book. Right now. I promise you will not regret it. And read all the other books too :)

I so adore the magical world Jasmine started with her Baines Chronicles and I honestly cannot get enough of it! From Sunaya to Fenris and now on to Annia and her magical partnership with Garalina, we have had plenty of adventures and tales to enjoy!
And what a fantastic start we have with Tempted by Magic! Lies and rumors are being spread about Sunaya and vicious violence is being perpetrated by gangs extorting shop owners in the rebuilt streets of Maintown. Who better to solve the puzzles than Annia? Along with the sinfully gorgeous Ryland and at times Garalina they set out to solve the crimes. Having to contend with animosity from a jealous enforcer and a reckless Tua does not make any of it easier that's for sure.
We also get to catch up with some of our favorite characters, which is always a treat!
Plenty of adventure awaits in this new series and I cannot wait to see where it goes!

Annia Melcott is an Enforcer and is back in Solantha because she made a deal with a spirit which gave her some illegal magic which is now churning and demanding to be used. However, if she wants to remain as an Enforcer and not end up in Prison she is going to have to learn to hide the magic even if it means she has to choose between sacrificing the innocent to protect her secret - the alternative is ending up locked away for life.

This was a great first full book in the series and very enjoyable. I loved her personality and the way there were times when I was most amused at her humour. It was lovely to be back in the world that has already been previously built that I was missing after the end of the Baine Chronicles. Well written and very enjoyable I'm really looking forward to seeing where this series goes and the adventures I can imagine Annia being involved in.

Well worth the wait to finally get to read a book from Annia's point of view. Getting more of Rylan is just an added bonus. The two make a great detective team. Annia has to struggle with her new magical abilities and decide how and when she is comfortable using them. Seeing how she finds her way to using her abilities for good and also working with others when she has always been a lone wolf is so enjoyable. I can't wait to hear about her next adventure!

I have been waiting anxiously for this series and Tempted by Magic, Mischief and Magic: Book One is even better than I could have imagined!
The very beginning drops us right into the story. We meet Garalina right off and get to know Rylan better. I just love the characters and the story. The interpersonal situations are realistic and I found myself emphasizing with Annia and her friends and acquaintances.
I can’t wait for Book 2, Seduced by Magic.

Already hungry for more

Fans of the Baine Chronicles will be thrilled with this new edition to the universe. Following Annia this time we find her having a hard time fitting smoothly back into her old life after coming back from Southia. Garalina is trying to convince Annia of the benefits of magic use in day to day life, the question is, will Annia decide she agrees? Or continue to fight against it's use.

Oh my goodness......... this was a FANTASTIC read! I’ve been itching to dig back into the Baine world, and I love the new direction! Annia is proving to be quite the character, and I can’t wait to see what all she gets up to! This promises to have even more shenanigans than the Baine Chronicles, and I can’t wait to see what happens next! Love, love, loved it and can’t wait for the next! Thank you for the opportunity to review this gem!

Great New Series

This is a brand new series from Jasmine Walt in the world of Sunaya. The world is the same with the same rules as the earlier books and holds together well. The new characters introduced in this series are fun and sassy and fun to read about. There’s plenty of action going on. Definitely a book you should get.

Oh wow, I have missed this style of writing by Jasmine. If like me you loved The Baine Chronicles then this book is a must read as Its a spin off following Sunya's friend Anna - all the main players and family from the Bain Chronicles pop in and out although Rylan has a bigger supporting role than most. I loved every moment of this book and couldn't put it down - This is Jasmine at her best!!

If you love the Baine Chronicles with Sunaya, I think you will love this book. Annia, the main character was an Enforcer with Sunaya. This story picks up from Called by Magic, a prequel that gives the back story to this book. It brings in characters from the Baine Chronicles- Sunaya and her cousin Rylan. Highly recommend this series if you like action and intrigue.

Get over it

This new series is just as much fun as Fenris & Sunaya's add in the overlapping and we get new adventures with the added catch up to boot. It's great, I really enjoy this world and having this new series keeps me caught up with all the characters. Cant wait for the next one, who knows what will happen next.

I loved this book!

You have got to read it.
Where to start... I could not put it down. Annia is not your run of the mill girl, she’s a badass that doesn’t let the boys push her around. I hope to see more of Rylan and Tarpen, but most of all I can’t wait to see what Broghan (i think he is my favorite character so far)does next!!!!!

The characters seem well thought out. I hate that the book ends in a cliffhanger, but that is just me. Can’t wait for the next one to see where the magic takes these unexpected characters. Is there a blooming romance in unexpected places? We will just have to wait and find out!!! I hope there is....

You must read this book if you are looking for a quick read that is well written and leaves you wanting more!!!!!
