In this book, Rex Brandt distills the essence of his teaching into 20 basic lessons covering the techniques and methods of transparent watercolor. 24 Full-Color Plates and 200 black and white illustrations illuminate the text.

Most of the lessons originate from those developed at the famed Rex Brandt Painting Workshop in California. Each lessons is a self-contained unit and is divided into two parts; 1) 10 lessons on the technical characteristics of paint, water, and paper 2) 10 lessons on procedures, the 'ways' these techniques are employed to make a painting. In addition, the author's answers to 'most-asked questions, clarify minor, but often confusing, items not ordinarily covered in instruction books.
