Three my heart broke into tiny pieces, my emotions everywhere but all the angst and sadness are for nothing, I ache for the characters so much stars!

This is the first in my life that I got confused what I felt about a book and went back and forth between giving five or three stars. It’s like black and white but there were no grey areas about this book. But then I decided to give three stars.

This is not about writing. Actually the author was so talented enough to touch my soul, heart, mind at

You Were There Too explores love, commitment connections, chances, fate and what-ifs. It's a beautiful love story, and the more I think about it in more ways than one.

Our main characters here married couple Mia and Harrison experience challenges due to the heartache they experience as a couple. Each of them also has their conflicts within themselves. Mia has a secret and she literally meets the man of her dreams who is not Harrison. The man from her dreams has been dreaming of her too. The

Evocative, distressing, & absolutely heart-wrenching!

YOU WERE THERE TOO by COLLEEN OAKLEY is a moving, intense, emotional, and an original love story that was quite the emotive and beautiful book to read. I was immediately intrigued and sucked into the narrative and absolutely loved the mysterious dream aspect to the storyline which had a slight supernatural vibe to it.

The tale is original and fresh! Something that I have definitely never read before. I was totally invested and all in the

YOU WERE THERE TOO was a wonderful, heartbreaking book. It was one that I couldn't wait to get back to, while at the same time dreading that it will end. I knew going in, with that premise, how could it not be a tearjearker? And it was, for sure, though surprisingly in a different way than I expected. The characters are genuine and flawed, and I cared deeply about them. This is a gripping story about love and fate, dreams and their meanings, and about what is and what could have been. Unique and ...more
Though the majority of the books that I read and review fall into the suspense/mystery/thriller category, I read any book that has a premise which intrigues me...

This was one of those.

Mia loves her husband Harrison.

But, she has recurring dreams of another that she has never met.

Until, one day, when she comes face to face with the stranger in her dreams and discovers that his name is Oliver, and he has been dreaming about her too.

How can this be?
What can this mean?

This book hit me in the feels and then kicked me in the gut... hard! Colleen Oakley, WOW! What an emotional ride you took me on with your evocative storytelling! A beautiful story about marriage, grief, and fate. Have you ever had a dream and wondered what it meant? What if you dreamed about the same person over and over and over again? And then you met that person? Would you think that it was faded? Mia is happily married to Harrison. After the couple relocates to a small town in Pennsylvania ...more

4.5 stars rounded up. In real life, I don’t believe in psychics or premonitions or give much weight to dreams, but the joy of a well-written novel is that I can suspend disbelief and see where the story takes me.

I wasn’t particularly interested in the storyline about Mia wanting a baby and her grief over having several miscarriages because I feel like I’ve read that many times before. What makes this story interesting is that Mia keeps having these dreams about a man she’s never met, until she

Not the way I wanted this one to go... this ending killed me.
The story left me with definite mixed feelings to a degree. It’s even somewhat of a difficult story to explain other than it has to do with dreams.

Have you ever dreamt of a person or situation and then it came true? Or maybe you had a déjà vu experience before. That’s usually from a dream that you probably didn’t remember.

This book is about dreams where two people who are random strangers, it appears, meet and discover many

I find the story brilliant, and realistic in the relationships. What I loved most about this story is that I couldn't decide how this story I wanted to end. This changed a lot through the end.I have different opinions.

The only reason why I decided to read this book, since I don’t tend to request ARCs of contemporary romances, was that I got to read one of the author’s previous books, Close Enough to Touch, which I enjoyed tremendously. And I am so happy that once again I ventured out of my comfort zone and read this book. This turned out to be so much more than just another romance book. One of the things that I really loved about this story is the topic of dream interpretations, psychics, and premonitions. ...more

Wow I’m not sure where to even start with this one because I was not expecting that twist and I’m just super emotional about it all!

I resonated with a lot of this book the vivid dreams and the raw emotions of a miscarriage the author did an amazing job detailing all of this. I really struggled with the borderline infidelity in this book though I usually hate it I found myself rooting for the other guy for a large portion of the book but once I the issue in the marriage was discovered I was back

I finished You Were There Too late, late last night as I needed to know how this emotional and thought-provoking book ended. My initial reaction was, "Huh? That's it? Over?" And I decided not to write my review and thought it best to let the story of Mia and her two loves percolate. I now come back to the table with a stronger review than I would have written if I had rushed to it last night. The premise of two people who may or may not be destined for one another having each been dreaming of ...more

Pensive, fresh, and absolutely heart-wrenching!

You Were There Too is a moving, mysterious tale that takes us into the life of Mia Graydon, a young, married woman struggling with the recent move to a small-town, a marriage strained by multiple miscarriages and stressful careers, secrets, depression, and the sudden real-life appearance of the man of her dreams.

The prose is heartfelt and immersive. The characters are flawed, troubled, and genuine. And the multi-layered, unpredictable plot is an

What initially appealed to me about this book was the metaphysical dream element. The meeting of souls through the dream world and the possible meaning behind it. Could two people know each other before they ever really meet? Are we predestined to be drawn to one person over any other in our lifetime, or is everything purely circumstance and chance? The idea of a

Colleen Oakley, I don’t even know where to start, how to put my feelings into words. First off, I had to stop the flow of tears, my heart alternating between beating out of my chest, to stopping altogether. This book is stunningly beautiful, poignant, complex and unpredictable. First of all, the characters, starting with Mia, who might be one of the most confused, complex, and warm-hearted characters ever. My own emotions echoed hers, as she experienced grief, loneliness, wonder—a woman who ...more

3 stars.

An emotional start that slowly fizzled out.

This book wasn’t what I expected. The writing was good, the characters were vivid, but the storyline was lacking. I enjoyed the novel, but didn’t love or truly connect with it. What started off strong and promising, became slow and lacklustre.

I read and loved this author, Colleen Oakley’s, book Close Enough To Touch. Perhaps my expectations were set too high after loving that one so much. I really enjoyed this book up to the 50% mark and then

Oh my, this book! I haven't cried reading a book in years (since Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, truth be told), but this one put a giant ache in the middle of my chest.

Whatever your beliefs are with regard to psychics, premonitions and the like, remember suspension of disbelief when you pick up this beautiful novel. It's worth it.

The story centers on Mia, her husband Harrison and the mystery man she's been dreaming about since she was a teen. A couple of chance encounters and

What if you constantly dreamt of another person that you didn’t know? What if you met that person and they had dreams about you? Would you chalk up to weird coincidences or something more? This is what Ms. Oakley explores in her latest novel.

This novel is an emotional roller coaster. In the end it gutted me in a way I haven’t been by a book in a good while.

Going into reading this book, I expected a predictable romance. What I got was a perfectly executed work of Women's Fiction that I couldn't put down. While it begins with the mystery of Mia's dreams and why she has been seeing a man in them for years that she has just recently met in real life, this story is so much more than that. Dealing with the trials and tribulations of marriage, infertility, miscarriage, and depression, this is a heavy read that is done perfectly, allowing the reader to ...more

You Were There Too stole my heart and captured all of my attention. I simply could not stop reading this latest novel by Colleen Oakley. She has created amazingly unique stories in her books and each one somehow tops the last.

Dreams are a fascinating thing we experience and no one really knows why. Is it our mind decompressing the day, making sense of our emotions, our stresses? Can we predict the future? Do they mean absolutely nothing at all? What if we dream about someone and then meet them?

Colleen Oakley's sophomore novel, Close Enough to Touch, was on my 2017 Favorites list. When I found out about You Were There Too, I couldn't wait to get my hands on it. The premise sounded fascinating and after reading her previous novel, I would gladly read anything she wrote without even having a synopsis available! Having said that, this novel lived up to my expectations.

The story is clever and imaginative, as well as interesting throughout. It made me think about the effects dreams have on

I discovered Colleen thanks to her debut (Before I Go), which made me cry and laugh and ugly cry-laugh, so I couldn't wait to get my hands on You Were There Too. The story begins on a brilliant premise: two strangers who know each other through dreams, one of them happily married to another man until their lives intersect. Colleen is brilliant at creating real-life characters and injecting the most heart-rending subjects with an unexpected and dry humor. And the ending! OMG the ending was so ...more

I’m a very practical person. I don’t really believe in soul-mates or ghosts or psychics. My Mom did though and honestly that was one thing I loved about her. She would tell us girls that she had dreams of being chased by Indians and explained it was because that’s how she died in her previous life. I would just smile and nod because she wholeheartedly believed it and why argue. I think my Mom would have really enjoyed You Were There Too. If you can just set aside reason and make room for the ...more

This first review of 2020 is a very confusing one. You Were There Too has both good and bad aspects, but I'm not completely sure I love the final product.

We follow Mia, who, though having a seemingly perfect life, has been having dreams containing a guy she's never met. When she comes face to face with the guy in real life, the two discover that they both share the same secret. Now, Mia must choose between her husband and the guy she seems

Sep 23, 2019 rated it liked it to review without spoilers but say my feelings....I didn't hate it. This was my first Colleen Oakley book. The actual writing was excellent. I did not like the plot. Kind of. I will say that this is a somber book. I felt like I had a gray cloud over me the whole time. And it got progressively more somber. I read to escape the real life awfulness so I needed a pallet cleanser after this.
