People consider that Russian writer Nikolai Vasilievich Gogol (Николай Васильевич Гоголь) founded realism in Russian literature. His works include The Overcoat (1842) and Dead Souls (1842).
Ukrainian birth, heritage, and upbringing of Gogol influenced many of his written works among the most beloved in the tradition of Russian-language literature. Most critics see Gogol as the first Russian realist. His biting satire, comic realism, and descriptions of Russian provincials and petty bureaucrats influenced later Russian masters Leo Tolstoy, Ivan Turgenev, and especially Fyodor Dostoyevsky. Gogol wittily said many later Russian maxims.
Gogol first used the techniques of surrealism and the grotesque in his works The Nose, Viy, The Overcoat, and Nevsky Prospekt. Ukrainian upbringing, culture, and folklore influenced his early works, such as Evenings on a Farm near Dikanka . His later writing satirized political corruption in the Russian empire in Dead Souls.

The under signed has been enthused by glorious Russian authors, from Gogol – whose magnum opus The Overcoat has been mentioned by Fyodor Dostoevsky "We all come out from Gogol's 'Overcoat" and Vladimir Nabokov, who called it "The greatest Russian short story’- to Leo Tolstoy – who has been a wondrous luminary, but as a man he was quite awful at times, as we find from the brilliant Intellectuals by Paul Johnson http://realini.blogspot.com/2014/06/i... - and the list is much longer, including icons like Ivan Turgenev - http://realini.blogspot.com/2016/07/n... Fyodor Dostoevsky who has a series of masterpieces included among the best books ever written, Anton Chekhov, whose collection of short stories is also celebrated among the greatest works, Mikhail Bulgakov – with his outstanding Master and Margarita – and Ivan Goncearov, with his sublime Oblomov http://realini.blogspot.com/2018/12/o...
It is thus extraordinary to see what appalling leaders the Russians have had, from Stalin to Ivan the Terrible, and still have to this day, when their current dictator is amassing troops at the borders with Ukraine – and not just in his own country, but also in the domain of the other ghoul, Lukashenko, within some hours’ drive from Kiev – that now number about 135k – The Economist from this morning has the usual cartoon depicting two skaters, one of them is the Ukraine, rolling gently in human size, while a monstrous, Godzilla sized bear is towering right next to the ice rink and greedily waiting for his attack, although the caption says that ‘he promised he would not play hockey’- and they seem certain to move in…
Even if they stay where they are, it is nonetheless a monstrous attitude, to bully and intimidate a sovereign country, and the others in the process, for albeit we can listen to The Card Players as it is available online, in an adaptation for the National Radio (with Grigore Vasiliu Birlic, Dem Radulescu and other excellent performers in the cast) one may be tempted to look at the window all the time, to see if there are no tanks in the vicinity or some incoming missile, there only because NATO is provoking them…
That is at least the narrative spinned by the Putin propaganda, which has his tyranny as the most peaceful land on earth, sending these massive attack battalions just because of…anxiety, existential malaise and the fact that people like yours truly do not feel too positive about this assassin and his cronies, despicable oligarchs, killers that have eliminated Litvinenko – killed with radioactive Plutonium no less, Boris Nemtsov, killed near the walls of the Kremlin, and they have recently tried to murder Alexey Navalny…though in their absurd, outrageous telling, the leader of the opposition had done the trick on himself, to gain publicity and they have had nothing to do with the use of military grade poison…then there is Skripall and his daughter, those that agents form the military units of the tyrant have tried to kill in Salisbury…they were only visiting in the place, even after the cameras have shown them without interest in the cathedral and instead travelling to where father and son lived, to send them to another realm…
For the future, the question seems to be how will Artificial Intelligence affect the outcome of such crisis…in fact, if humanity would allow Super intelligent Entities to take care of administrative, perhaps political problems might disappear, for you would not have an Artificial Putin launching a new war which would bring about a paradigm shift – paradigm shift is hilariously explained in Vernon God Little by DBC Pierre, winner of the Booker Prize http://realini.blogspot.com/2016/06/v... where Vernon is asked what will he think if he enters a room and sees a man with a finger up his granny’s behind, and when he expresses outrage and fury, god Little is told that he then finds the man tried to save his grandmother, who had been in mortal danger and his reaction to this news represents a paradigm shift – as explained by the man of our times, Yuval Harari
The great luminary has been invited the other day by The Economist to write about the Ukraine crisis and he argues in the article that for centuries, the ‘normal’ times were when there was war and peace was just a period in between – an alert would be needed here, for this is what I have got from
Harari’s article, but it will be better to go to the source – and leaders had been much more concerned with military projects – budgets for that sector had been much bigger than anything else – while over the past decades, rulers have shifted the priorities towards internal issues and not fighting others, thus budgets for defense have decreased and been surpassed by those for education, health care and the peril of countries being occupied has almost disappeared, for there are no states that have gone absent in recent memory…
Alas, this could change nonetheless, if the gruesome dictator in the Kremlin will make the Ukraine disappear, yet again, for it would represent the Paradigm Shift that would bring military budgets to very high levels, triggering huge increases in one place and then spiraling out of control in response in other places, this resulting in a very likely vicious spiral, which could bring about the disappearance of our species, if we consider the contribution that AI has already on the battlefield and the destructive potential that drones and other means have already demonstrated in the conflicts between Azerbaijan and Armenia and other war zones – another example would be the casualties inflicted by Houthis, impoverished and less advanced as they are in the UAE and Saudi Arabia with drones they used – coupled with the massive Climate Change which would be ignored when countries are at war…
If we were to vote for Artificial Intelligence instead of the likes of Trump, Bolsanaro, even BoJo, never mind replacing Xi, Putin, Kim of NK and others like them with supercomputers, they would not be vain, afflicted by the Napoleon Effect, Narcissi Personality Disorder and other ailments and disorders and act considering all the possible results of Any actions – indeed, in the same The Economist, there have been articles arguing that in the future, these super brains would be able to calculate all possible outcomes of any raids, missiles sent, tanks dispatched, troops deployed in any number of ways and thus offer the result at the end, without any combat to be necessary and we can only look forward to that Game of Cards, which would have the future players spill no blood…Insha’Allah!
