Material Girls: Fabric Makeovers for Your Home

Rate this book
Fabric and maybe a touch of paint: see how the three hip hosts of Material Girls transform a home. Readers can learn from DIY’s expert “seam team”—seamstress April Eden, interior designer Cat Wei, and upholsterer Kelly Keener—superheroes of sewing and style. Instead of emptying a room and starting from scratch, the Material Girls create redecorated masterpieces based on what’s already there. And we’re not just talking about changing the curtains and bedspread. April, Cat, and Kelly fashion floor coverings, padded headboards, slipcovers, lampshades, room dividers, and more.
With before and after photos of each project, step-by-step instructions, and full-color reference photos, Material Girls will inspire home decorators to fire up the sewing machine and break out the scissors.

Plenty in this book looks dated, but I'm thinking it looked pretty conservative back in 2007 when it was published. There are lots of photographs, most suffer from poor lighting and being secondary to filming a cable TV show, but if you're new to DIY home crafts, there's so inspiration here. I wish the before and after photos were larger and more in focus. Some befores look better than the afters. This trio seems to like table runners, and the colors brown and lime. I never watched the show, or even knew of its existence, but just as well.
