A cold case adds an extra chill to the holiday season as bestselling author Anne Perry whisks readers to an English country house for a Christmas of secrets, soul-searching, and forgiveness.

As beautiful as it may be, their friends' country home is not where Lady Vespasia wishes to spend Christmas with her new husband, Victor Narraway. She'd rather pass a relaxing holiday at h

I look forward to Anne Perry's annual Christmas novella every year. This year was particularly delightful as it featured Lady Vespesia, an aunt of sorts to the Pitts. She is married to Pitts former boss, Narraway. They have traveled to an English estate to spend Christmas but it turns out Narraway has an ulterior motive.

There is an attempted murder and the involvement of state secrets to liven up the house party. The situation brings back sad memories of a botched operation for Nar

At slightly over 200 pages long this annual Christmas novella from Anne Perry is sure to give her fans exactly the pleasure they have come to expect from her. This was my first time reading anything in this series so I wasn't quite sure what to expect. This is the third Christmas Vespasia and Victor have been married and she would have preferred to spend the time at home instead of at the country estate of Max and Lady Amelia Cavendish. Vespasia knows Victor has some business he needs to take ca ...more

This was an interesting Christmas mystery. It takes place in Victorian England, and the main characters are from another series, which I haven't read any of. I had no trouble following the characters and their story. The mystery was intriguing, and I enjoyed the journey to the conclusion. I was surprised at the way things ended.

Anne Perry’s 17th Christmas novel has Lady Vespasia and her new husband Victor Narraway attending a Christmas house party. Victor is on a missions, and is his typically angsty way, he is haunted by an incident in his past that seems to have some bearing on his present circumstances. Lady Vespasia is uncharacteristically unsure of her bearings in their still new marriage. Lovers of Anne Perry’s novels will be delighted!

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All

In her perennial Christmas novella, Anne Perry returns to the Victorian universe of Thomas and Charlotte Pitt. While Thomas and Charlotte are nowhere to be seen, Lady Vespasia Cumming-Gould Narraway steps to the forefront with her husband Victoria Narraway, the former head of Special Branch. As the holidays approach, Vespasia and Victor have gone to a country estate, where Narraway is on a secret mission to intercept some blueprints, then pass them on to the next party. But something goes wrong ...more

Every year the author delivers up to fans an engaging and heartwarming side story to one of her series with a Christmas holiday setting for one of her minor characters to shine and solve their own mystery. This year, the author returns to Victor and Vespasia from the Thomas and Charlotte Pitt historical mystery series and couldn't have chosen better in my book. I chose to go back and forth between print and audio versions of the book.

A Christmas Gathering is the seventeenth of the Ch

A Christmas Gathering by Anne Perry is a mystery that takes place in the English country side. I have not read Perry’s other mystery series, but this reads very well as a standalone. The story revolves around an older married couple, Lady Vespasia and her husband, Lord Victor Narraway, who have been married for three years. It is Christmas time, and Vespasia would love to stay home together and enjoy the holiday. Victor is a retired head of London’s Special Branch, and when he accepts an invitat ...more

This is the second Christmas novella that I have read by Anne Perry. As with the previous one, I really enjoyed the story even though I had not read many of the books in the series it was derived from. In this case, it is an off-shoot of her Thomas Pitt mysteries.

Lady Vespasia and her husband, Victor Narraway, have been married for a few years and are visiting the country house of casual friends for the Christmas season.

Calling the hosts friends might be a bit of a stretc

For many years, Anne Perry has written an annual short novel centered on Christmas and featuring characters from her various series. This is 2019’s entry.

In this outing, Perry features Lady Vespasia, who was looking forward to spending a quiet Christmas with her husband, Victor Narraway. Victor, a former head of the Special Branch, is accepting stolen documents that will reveal the identity of a traitor. In order to do that they must attend a gathering at one of the great halls in th

I’ve only read one other Anne Perry book, the second in the Daniel Pitt series, but it’s already easy for me to recognize her authorship in “A Christmas Gathering,” another cozy mystery with intelligent, witty (and often biting) dialogue and lush descriptions of period English settings and social scenes. In Perry’s latest, Lady Vespasia and her new husband, Lord Narraway, accept an invitation to pass the Christmas holidays at Cavendish Manor, the country estate of Lord Cav

Although I enjoyed this story, it referenced some things between our main characters, Lady Vespasia and her husband Victor, with no explanation. Such as their age gap and what transpired the previous Christmas. These things may have happened in previous books in the series, but there should have been a more in-depth explanation regarding these references in order to make it a true stand-alone story.
Although semi-retired, Victor works with the Foreign Office and has been tasked with accepti

A quick and easy read which is perfect when you want to take a break from your Christmas preparations.
Lady Vespasia and Victor Narraway are invited to spend Christmas at a beautiful country estate in Kent.
What seems on the outside to be a pleasant holiday with society acquaintances of Vespasia, ends up being a rather rather less pleasant affair. There is a secret backdrop to the house party which pans out in a in a sinister and dangerous way with Victor and Vespasia in the centre of the w

Victor and Vespasia. Always a pleasure!

I love these two, Victor Narraway and Lady Vespasia. True love in their mature years. As Vespasia muses, "So late in life, she had found the man she truly loved with all the passion, intelligence, and trust in her nature." What a special couple!
Victor has retired as head of the London Special Branch, but unbeknownst to Vespasia he's acting as a contact for a young woman, Iris Watson-Watt, involved in a sting to unmask a traitor. So they ar

This is the annual Christmas novella from Anne Perry. The previous one, A Christmas Revelation was set in the world of William Monk. A Christmas Gathering features Lady Vespasia and her husband Victor Narraway from the Thomas Pitt series

Vespasia and her husband Victor Narraway go to the country estate of Max and Lady Amelia Cavendish. Vespasia would have liked to stay home, but she knew there was some reason that Victor wished to go. There were three other couples there - Rafe and Rosalind Allenby, Iris and James Watson-Watt, and Georgiana and Dorian Brent.

Vespasia finally finds out that Victor's reason for coming was to get some altered submarine plans from one of the guests (which on he doesn't know until he is notified) to

I look forward to reading these Christmas novellas by Anne Perry every year. The details large and small make this book an absolute treasure, and the clues leading up to the unmasking of the person responsible for trying to kill guests are slowly revealed. By the end, everything is neatly wrapped up the way it should be in a mystery.

Perry brings together an interesting cast of characters in each new addition. In this book, Lady Vespasia takes center stage while spending the days lead

The English countryside at Christmas-sounds glorious to some, but not to Lady Vespasia and her new husband, Lord Victor Narraway. The invitation to Cavendish Hall is of obligatory nature, so no real cheer and anticipation are involved. Max Cavendish and wife, Amelia, have invited a select group of guests for Christmas Day. The events leading up to Christmas Eve will add quite a bit to the usual anxious excitement that surrounds the holiday. Anne Perry’s annual Christmas novella will be a treat t ...more

I haven't read any of Anne Perry's Christmas books, but I will be reading more. I love Charlotte and Thomas Pitt and Monk and Hester. This story centers around Vespasia, Charlotte's relative. There are new characters and events since I last read a Charlotte and Thomas Pitt mystery. Vespasia and her husband are invited to a grand manor for Christmas. However, Vespasia knows that it is more than a holiday. Her husband, Lord Narraway, used to be head of Special Branch has other reasons. I enjoy the ...more

Anne Perry's annual Christmas novella has arrived!!! In a Christmas Gathering Lady Vespasia and her new husband Victor Narraway spend the holidays at the home of friends. Even Christmas isn't time off when the British Empire is in danger.

The newlyweds are learning about each other as well as dealing with danger. This adds another dimension to the book. Yo

If you are a fan of the Thomas Pitt series then you will have met Vespasia and Victor, who are somehow related to the Pitts. This is their Christmas story in A Christmas Gathering by Anne Perry. Short novel in length it is a book of political intrigue, mystery, personal agendas and marital misunderstanding.

While Vespasia and Victor seem to trust and love each other, work has caused a sense of secrecy along with a difference of opinion over where to spend Christmas. Sounds normal enou

This is the first Anne Perry book I have read.
This is also a book in a series with the character Lady Vespasia. There were hints about what I might have missed in past books but I felt like this was a stand alone book and did not miss anything by not reading past books. This was a very fast read.
It was a light , cozy mystery that got straight to the point. There wasn't a whole lot of the story that tried to mislead the reader to wonder who the villain was. I like reading books that take p

Anne Perry's annual Christmas novella is always a treat. And this time, you get Victor Narraway, Lady Vespasia, a country house, treason, a cold case murder, and lots of intrigue! Lady Vespasia is none too pleased to be at a house party in the country and none too happy at how distracted her husband Narraway is. What's the deal with Iris Watson-Watt? There's an attempted murder and it turns out that Lady Vespasia is not the only one who isn't happy to be at the Cavendish home. This is a quick re ...more
