Blood Relic: A Dark Paranormal Fantasy Novel (Paranormal Peacekeepers #3) by Lucretia Stanhope is recommended by this “un-paranormal” reader. This is not usually a genre that I read, but surprisingly enjoyed getting into Alice. Stanhope writes in a way that brings out the humanity in a fantasy character. Many other reviewers are telling you about the story. I want to let readers know my opinion of this book: Friggin’ Awesome!!!

I am so in love with this series! Alice's adventures are raw, emotional, thrilling, seductive, and expertly written. The third installment in the series raises the bar even higher and I couldn't get enough of the romance and sensual romance that flawlessly combined with a thrilling, dangerous, and nail-biting plot. NO ONE writes vampires as well as Stanhope. I am NEVER disappointed when I read her books and it's why she's one of my favorite authors.

I have accidentally picked up book three of the series, but it proved not to be a problem for me. Although it would have been better to read the first two books and understand the background better, I delved into the story right away and understood the fantasy world quite easily. It’s definitely an entertaining read. Right from the start, I was curious to know more about the supernatural creatures such as the witches, elves, vampires, lizard people and others. And it was almost impossible not to ...more

Alice sort of comes into her own in this third installment. We knew she was strong, but her gifts get stronger and I'm curious to know about her new spider friend. We learn about the secret admirer who has been sending her gifts and I know this is a horror series, but I want to reverse harem this so hard. Amarok and Matthias sandwich please. And the new vampire, Lucius would make an interesting addition if he actually stops wanting to kill Alice.

But that's just me. The blood, gore, and quest for

I think the best part of Miss Stanhope’s writing is the way that she is always able to brings scenes and characters to life. From the very first page onward, we’re drawn into the world with the author’s brilliant storytelling. Alice is a formidable witch, and I loved the way that she walks the line between good and evil to do what’s right. It’s not very often that you read about a witch who uses both white and black magic to accomplish her goals. The adventure she goes on with her vampire friend ...more

Dark, unexpected, and intriguing

Really beautifully written, this book just pulls you into the dark, dangerous depths Alice finds herself in. Beauty and darkness are irreversibly intertwined as Alice's worldview slips ever more into shades of grey and she finds herself pushed further by external forces to embrace the darker aspects of her nature.
Suspenseful and enthralling, I really couldn't put it down. Characters and relationships develop unexpected new depths and the plot takes you a new direc

Stanhope is an author I one-click when something new comes along (hence why I am writing a review). Alice has her hands over full in this one - vampire underground! Buckle your belts and hold on to your hats - this is a fast paced journey!

My favourite scenes needs to be mentioned. The spider crawling up her leg to sit on her knee. I can't say I'd let that happen, but I might think twice before freaking out and swatting it!

5/5 stars again for an amazing paranormal read!

Feral left me a little frustrated with Alice, but this newest installment more than makes up for it. Throughout the books we’re introduced to Alice’s three loves, Jasper, Amarok and Matthias (promise that’s not a spoiler). This time around we’re taken to an even darker world than before. Yes, even darker than Decker collecting body parts. Most of the story revolves around vampires and witches (obviously), which automatically means things are likely to be a little bloody and a lot brutal. So if t ...more

I read the first two books of the Paranormal Peacekeepers series by Lucretia Stanhope and thoroughly enjoyed them. I added Blood Relic (Paranormal Peacekeepers #3) to my TBR list a while back and finally got a chance to read it. Here are my thoughts!

Synopsis (from the author):

Blood Relic is the third book in the Paranormal Peacekeepers series. This book focuses mostly on Alice and Matthias. While I never read the first book I think I could have benefited from reading it while the second book, which I did read, was more of a stand alone. This third book I feel like was a combination of the other two and move on to further territory into Alice's story.

In this third installment, we get to find out more about Alice's abilities (some of which she didn't even seem to know

I was not ready for book 3 in the Paranormal Peacekeepers Series. Alice and Amarok, partner pair supreme are split up for this book, and Alice is paired up with hunky vampire Matthias.
Alice and Matthias must go undercover to flush out a den of vampires who feed on witches’ blood for a narcotic-like high and peddle in an illegal crystal-like talisman known as a Blood Relic that holds an unlimited supply of a witch’s blood.
Matthias is ordered to train Alice to guard herself against vampires’ compu

Just like the first two books of the series, Blood Relic can be read as a standalone. However, because I still haven’t read the first book, I had a little more trouble figuring out the background relationship of the characters with this one than I did the second.

I also thought the book started a bit slow, and I wasn’t crazy about Matthias at first. I really liked Amarok in the second book, and out of the two competing for Alice’s heart, I was rooting for Amarok. However, it didn’t take long for

Alice had been clear. She did not want to be used by the PPK's military. She detested the part of herself capable of killing. She would not be their killer. But when witches started showing up, used and tossed aside, something had to be done. There was talk of an ancient magic, blood relics, and in order to stop the body count continuing to rise there was no choice but to act. Can her own special magic lure out those responsible, and is she prepared to deal with the consequences? One thing is fo ...more

Lucretia Stanhope is one of my favourite authors, and I have read many of her books. This story didn’t disappoint. Straight away I was enticed in by her beautifully descriptive writing style. Lovely touches like the vine pattern appearing on the elemental librarian and the scent of flowers when she moved. Also the aromas and description of the two rivals, Amarok and Matthias. I enjoyed their banter. These two were my favourite characters. Matthias is dark, sensual and charismatic, just how I lik ...more

A well-written story starts out with scenes that come alive through descriptions like “flipped the page…releasing another wave of old-book aroma.” Halls echoing back footsteps, happiness and love radiating from dancers, soft moans vibrating on a body, are but a few examples of the lush narrative as we enter into the intriguing plot: dead witches, relics that drip blood, heading a military guard that is hated, partnering up with a vampire, etc. This dark paranormal fantasy works. Why? Because it’ ...more

So dark, and yet holding onto the light -- just like Alice. What I love about this series is the creatures are not just witches, vampires and werewolves in name only, prancing around with human emotions. They are dark entities and behave accordingly with no remorse. The story is dark, so be prepared. Yet, there is also the light that shines through -- due to love for Alice. It's such a great contrast of good vs evil, allowing both to reside in everyone involved without making anyone fit into a c ...more

I’ve read many books by Lucretia Stanhope and her stories just get better and better. Alice is a wonderful central character who is real and relatable, who has her doubts and fears, and who nevertheless invariably chooses what is right. Her evolving relationship with Matthias was wonderfully presented and I really enjoyed his character’s development as well. At first dark and seductive, he eventually becomes protective and caring, proving it time and time again that his feelings for Alice were m ...more

An excellent read.

The third in Standhope's Paranormal Peacekeepers fantasy series, 'Blood Relic' continues the story of Alice's journey of discovery of her nature and the powers she possesses.

Conflicted and more sure if what she does not want than what she does, Alice finds herself assigned to a mission that threatens her with her deepest fears. The challenges she faces and the fears she is forced to confront test her character and push her limits more than ever before.

A wonderful and thrilling story

Another great addition to the series as Alice and her partner Amarok are being separated as she and the vampire Matthias have to go deep undercover and find the vampires that are killing witches to create blood relics, an object that can feed vampires blood forever and it's illegal to make it possess. Alice has her new training from Matthias to make her more resistant to vampire compulsion and use to getting bitten because the nefarious vamps are using blood dens,

This series continues to hum along at the level of Dark Fantasy I like; it's dangerous, grim with real menace to its various races and just a touch of psychological, but never pushing so far that it sours my enjoyment or any particular scene. Alice remains a wonderful protagonist and continues to grow real teeth in this installment without sacrificing the vulnerability and desire to be 'light'. An extremely soft criticism I have is that I would have liked to explore this world's vampires a littl ...more

An investigation into the deaths of a number of witches leads to the vampire underground.

The writing was crisp / sharp. I liked the way the main character was a mixture of strong / weak but proved her worth. There was plenty of action / tension, some romance and plenty of ‘magical’ detail to keep the reader interested. I enjoyed the way the characters had to control their basic nature to achieve their goals which meant that who was friend / foe could potentially change at any moment.

I'm always on the lookout for exciting new writers whose books will appeal to the younger generation of readers in my big extended family. And, I think Lucretia Stanhope fits that bill nicely. Although I haven't read the previous two books in the series, I enjoyed having to work a little harder to immerse myself in the vampire world, and understand the characters, the plot, and the final outcomes. Blood Relic is a wonderfully thrilling read, where the fight between good and evil is deadly. There ...more

Having read Feral and found it really enjoyable, I was really looking forward to this read and was not disappointed by the time I was finished. I tore through the last one hundred pages in about two hours as Alice and Matthias search the dark underbelly of vampire dens where they feed of witches. The concept was certainly novel, if you'll pardon the pun. The only thing keeping the third book in the series from being 5 star for me was how long the opening and training sequences lasted. Fast-paced action and sizzling romance!

This book is the third in a series, but it provides just enough background information to understand how all the paranormal characters function, so it can stand alone.

The interaction is sizzling, the plot has interesting zigs and zags, and the dialogue between the characters was snappy and moved the story along. I enjoyed the mix of thrilling action, sweet notes from a secret lover, underhanded politics, nefarious doings in underground clubs, and violent c

Alice Comes Into Her Own

I loved how Alice grows in her abilities as well as her relationships in this book. Not only does she get to learn more about herself, she also finds out so much more about the people around her. She faces a terrible dilemma about the men in her life, they all want to love and protect her, but her heart can only belong fully to one of them. It’s easy to understand her frustration with the life she has been given, based on the decisions of others, rather than what she wish

Love these characters!

This has become one of my favorite series. These characters now have little spots in my brain where they live.

This is so well written with likeable, lustable characters. It has everything, romance, action, darkness, gore, and even humor.

Even though this one didn’t really showcase Amarok, my favorite, I still felt like Stanhope did a great job introducing Matthias. He was just as interesting to read about as Amarok.

I’m always so disappointed once I’m finished.

A little out of my comfort zone, BLOOD RELIC is a great read for dark fantasy fans. There is plenty of action and intrigue, twists and turns to keep the pages turning, and this book truly lives up to its title, especially when Alice, the heroine, goes undercover and enters the blood dens. If you like vampires, witches, elves, and the like, it won't take you long to be pulled into the story, especially when Alice sets out on her quest. The characters are well-developed and the story is well-told. ...more

Having not read the others in this series, I will be now. The story is easy to follow without having read the others.
The writing style is easy o the eye, descriptions pop. When Alice enters the den, you feel her emotions - a sign of a good writer. This leads you to wanting to protect her.
The love between her and Mathias is obvious. And that's all I'm going to say, because this is one you need to read yourself.
I definitely recommend this one.

Great paranormal tale with an original take on vampires. Alice is sent by the PPK into the vampire underground following a series of witch killings, involving the practice of creating relics that drip magic blood. An ominously thrilling read, with some great characters such as the vampire Matthias, who Alice teams up with. A terrific mixture of tension and romance, with plenty of twists and turns. Highly recommended.

Into the vampires’ den
An assortment of zany fantastical characters, some bad, some not quite so bad, with the not-so-naive Alice in the thick of it. A somewhat dark fantasy adventure, which would appeal to lovers of contemporary elves, witches and vampire mixes.
Dialogue driven and well-paced, this tale keeps the reader on his or her toes throughout, aided and abetted by sprinkles of humor which are threaded through the pages.
