I’m not a regular reader of Cowboy books (In fact, the titles embarrass me a wee bit! ), and I’ve not read any others in this series, but A Cowboy Under the Mistletoe was a quick, easy read with some good emotion and drama, exactly what you expect from a holiday romance. I loved watching Sage and Jason’s romance unfold, and it proved to be a great escape and just the type of read I needed at the time.

Thanks to Berkley for the complimentary copy.

When you read a lot of books like I do it takes something special to really capture my attention. This book had something special and I’m not sure I can really put my finger on but I’ll try.

I think one of the main things that drew my attention is the way the author created her characters. They both were vulnerable but yet have pride in themselves.

I think that’s what’s missing in many stories where someone is held down or pushed down. The

I think Jessica Clare may have captured all of the best in emotions and healing in this Holiday tale; what being a true friend is, a romance that blooms slowly and caring about those around you, not to mention a heated passion that was built from a steadily growing spark.

A COWBOY UNDER THE MISTLETOE is so much more positive than so many stories, not that Jason’s problems do not exist or that Sage has never been seen as anything more than the local “go to” fixture. Two people who just need

Jason, an ex-navy guy hasn’t had the best luck with jobs since his PTSD has him struggling with panic attacks that are even worse now that he lost his support dog. At his ends, he takes a job as a ranch hand even though he has zero experience. Thankfully, he runs into Sage, and she offers him a trade: she’ll give him a crash course in ranching if he’ll be her date at her friend Greg’s rehearsal dinner and wedding. Sage is tired of being known as Greg’s mooning sidekick but finding a

Oh, I loved this book so much!
Why haven't I read this author before now?
If I could give this book more than five stars, I certainly would. This author wrote in a way that tugged every one of my heartstrings. At some point we all say, "every now and then a certain book will come along and once you finish, you are left will long sigh, a huge smile and a feeling like you've been awarded something special," Well that was A Cowboy Under The Mistletoe for me. A truly endearing, heartwarming, poignant

3.5 stars -- Apparently the theme of this series is "Jessica Clare makes me OK with tropes that I usually don't like." Basically, I just really like Jessica Clare's authorial voice and humor, so it is hard for me to have a bad time reading her stuff. I don't love cowboy stories usually (though they have been growing on me recently with the sheer volume of them coming from authors I like), and I also don't like romances where there's a big secret at the heart of the conflict. That said, this one ...more

If you follow me you know how much I love reading Christmas themed books. I'm not a fan of how early I have to read them but do enjoy sharing the ones I liked with you guys so that you'll have some ideas on what to buy to read for the season.

A Cowboy Under the Mistletoe started out slightly slowly for me. I was a little lost and I don't know why. I'm thinking it was just how the author started it. When he met Sage

This book has everything that I want in a romance novel. A military man who is seeking solace in a ranch, looking to become a cowboy and a sweet heroine that has the perfect ranch for this “new ” cowboy.

Jessica Clare, the author, gives us the perfect amount of drama with the storyline and characters in the book. It was filled with so many emotions but it felt complete.. Sage is strong but sweet. I loved that she wasn’t afraid to be herself and didn’t shy away from conflict. Jason is a bit broken

A Cowboy Under the Mistletoe is a charming first-love romance between a former Navy master-at-arms and the sweetest woman in town. Jason Clements headed to the town of Painted Barrel and met Sage Cooper where she helped him learn the basics of being a cowboy in one weekend. Jessica Clare did an amazing job of showcasing the innocence and passion that is unique to first love.

Jason Clements was a former military man who is looking for a job. He has PTSD which has made it hard for him to hold down

This book is a perfect example of why I tend to binge on cowboy romances in the winter. There is just something so right about finding comfort in the arms of a cowboy, on a ranch, in a small town on a cold and gloomy day.

Jessica Clare did a great job with Jason's characters and showing how his past plays such a huge role in his everyday life. As someone who feels looked over quite often, I could totally feel Sage's need to find somewhere new in hopes of, in a way, re-inventing herself.

ARC from the publisher

Between Tess LeSue and now Jessica Clare, I’ve rediscovered my love for Western romances this year. It doesn’t matter if I’m getting swept away in a canvas covered wagon or a rusty old pickup truck, I’m in! I’m especially fond of the ‘softer’ cowboys, because I feel like they’re harder to come by. Luckily for me, A Cowboy Under the Mistletoe definitely fits that bill.

5 reasons why A Cowboy Under the Mistletoe will lasso your heart:

A Cowboy Under the Mistletoe was my first Jessica Clare book but it certainly won’t be my last. I love holiday romances and this one did a fantastic job of being both a solid romance and capturing the magic (and possibility for loneliness) around the holidays.

Sage was a great character and I loved her development through the novel. It was wonderful to see her grow from being somewhat of a doormat to having confidence in herself and owning her take-charge personality. Plus the author did a great

It's December in Painted Barrel, Wyoming, time for Christmas celebrations. The residents of small-town Painted Barrel know how to celebrate the holiday.

Who takes a job as a cowboy on a cattle ranch with no experience with ranching or cattle and doesn't even know how to ride a horse? Former Navy Master-at-Arms Jason Clements, that's who. And he really, really needs this job. Call him desperate. Jason suffers from PTSD after a tramatic experience in Afghanistan and add to that he lost his support

What an absolutely delightful holiday romance!

I loved A Cowboy Under the Mistletoe for many reasons, not the least of which was the immensely likable characters—Sage and Jason. They were both charming and a little damaged by life (Jason certainly more so), but also both trying their best to find the best of life. Add in dogs—always a winner in my book—and appearances from previously loved characters, and this book is a total winner.

Highly recommend for those who love light-hearted, fun,

What a nice story even if it breaks your heart a little. Sage has been the assistant in the mayors office for ten years and not once did she get a date, she even put herself on dating apps and all she got were dirty old men. Sage has pined over her friend Greg since school but he is marrying Becca in a few weeks and has never seen Sage as anything but a friend.
Jason needs a job badly so when his cousin recommended him as his replacement on the ranch Jason was happy, problem was he had no idea

Jason sometimes needs to soothe his woman, “I’m sure. Now, stop worrying and let me kiss you.” She smiled and put her arms around his neck again, leaning in." Jason sometimes needs to give his dog a pep talk, "Achilles’s tail wagged. “Just remember she’s my girl. No sad eyes at her. She’s got too soft a heart as it is.” He paused for a moment and leaned in. “The sad eyes are my move.” Achilles just squirmed with delight..." I liked this book, I loved Jason.

SO. DARN. CUTE.

This was such a cute read. I thought it might be cheesy and a bit cliche, but it's actually an excellent story. It deals with some darker issues and shows how one can conquer the gloomier side of PTSD.

Jason is a former Navy guy and going through some extremely tough times adjusting to civilian life. Sage is this funny, cute, and down to earth small town girl thinking she might become a city girl. When these two

Jason arrives in Painted Barrel ready to work at Price Ranch as a cowboy. One minor problem. Jason is ex-military and knows absolutely nothing about ranch life. He's found himself here after losing multiple jobs, he was qualified for, but his PTSD wouldn't allow him to keep.
Sage grew up in Painted Barrel and figured it was probably time to move on. This Christmas would be her last in her hometown. She has no familial ties, only the friendships she'd made over the years, but at her age she wanted

I've always adored Jessica Clare so when this series came out I jumped at it. I thought what a better combination then Jessica Clare and cowboys.

However, this is my second book in this series and so far I find both a bit lack luster of a series.

This is a sweet Christmas romance and quick read. Though the plot is predictable, the inclusion of PTSD effects on the former soldier brought an interesting dynamic to the story. I thought the length of time dedicated to their play-by-play sexual encounters got old. Not my favorite Christmas book but cute.
