If I wasn’t getting these volumes for free from Edelweiss, I wouldn't be reading this manga at all by this point. But just like some junk food that's already in front of you, it's impossible to stop ingesting even if you fully realise how disgusting and unhealthy it is for you. In short, 20th Century Boys sucks balls. It's a hacky, incompetent story dependent entirely on its endless twists, reveals and fake-outs, and I have no idea how most people don't get desensitised to it all when they get ...more

Now were are nearing the half-way point of this series, the story is just as engrossing as ever. While it is a slow-burning tale, with the introduction of Sadakiyo it feels as though we are getting closer to finally identifying Friend. At the same time, the story's pace is starting to pick up once again. While there are still a lot of flashbacks, this volume is a lot more focused on building Kanna's character and moulding her into an entity that is actually a threat to Friend.

While there are

Fantastic. We get a huge fake out in this one that had me reeling. There are some fantastic turns in this one that really got me pumped building up to a series of small reveals. The cliffhanger at the end is brutal and a guarantee that anyone there will be picking up the next perfect edition. Kana's story is awesome, and the casino scene is one of my absolute favorites in recent manga memory. The art as always is incredible. I am incredibly fascinated by how Urasawa manages to capture so much ...more

¡Aaaaaaaaaah! ...more

SPOILERS

Following the mighty cliffhanger in the previous volume, we get to see Kyoko Koizumi seeing the face of the mysterious Friend at a VR simulation at Friend Land. Supposedly, if she sees the face, she will die. However, being Naoki Urasawa, no matter how many rugs he pulls, you won’t get all the answers. Fortunately, she is out of the game, but with the worry of getting brain damage from your VR ejection, as well as being traumatised by seeing the Friend’s face.

Much of this book is about

Book 5 is sturdy as the rest - one segment in particular drew the tears out of me. With a heavier focus on the world set in 2014 and an, up until now, underutilized classmate I'm eagerly anticipating the unveiling of the next volume.

The story's seems a bit draggy as Urasawa always does but he knows how to navigate it. I trust him.

Ahhh!! So good. These volumes keep ending on the biggest cliffhangers, and Urasawa sure is good at stringing the reader along, lol.
