I had to read this book in school. I thought it was really hard to get into the plot of this book and the characters where introduced so quickly and they were just to many at the beginning. Otherwise it was bleh. A lot of drinking, smoking and fighting. The writer did a good job writing about the real lives of Icelandic people after World war II.

A disjointed book about an Icelandic family who are by current standards dysfunctional but perhaps somewhat typical for the times. A host of characters and several humorous events are scattered throughout the book.

Many interesting information about life in Iceland after WW2. However, it wasn't easy for me to follow the story. The time period changed very often. I missed a main character.

Really like this saga about a typical Icelandic family back in the days. Esp. since I had just been to Iceland!
