4.5 Stars... When Jack's past comes back to haunt him and endangers Ivy, he makes choices that could cost him everything... This mystery takes readers from one twist to another and adds in a supernatural element that certainly shocked me... The author is also indicating Ivy has more power than she realizes and with each read we get a glimpse into how her abilities are manifesting and the way in which they impact the current mystery... Ivy and Jack continue to have great chemistry, but the relationship is also deepening in terms of their connection and trust with one another... We are starting to see not just attraction but the building of a legitimate relationship... This series is intriguing and engaging with dynamic characters and intricate mysteries with a supernatural twist:)

Sadly these books have a consistent thread of a supposedly strong woman allowing a controlling man, who is obsessing over her, to walk all over her. He spies on her, stalks her, openly follows her, and refuses to leave her house, Beyond making a few token verbal objections, she does NOTHING to stop him. She even stops her brother from beating him up and prevents him from throwing this man out of her house!

And it's all written as if this "relationship" is meant to be a Good Thing for her. Her relatives encourage it, apparently because having a contolling obsessive for a boyfriend is better than not having a man in your life...!!!

I couldn't continue to listen to it.

I didn't finish the third book because I could see that, despite his abandoning her when she'd been shot, accosting her in the woods, following her home and forcing his way inside, and then climbing into her bed while she was drugged to insensibility, she was going to take him back and continue to allow him to be controlling and dictatorial toward her.

This author seems to have peculiar ideas about what constitutes a good relationship and to what a woman should allow a controlling partner to do to her.

It hurts to rate this novel only two stars. The first couple of books were AMAZING! I loved them so much and gave them both fivers! So why did this third story only get two stars? Well, nothing much happens. When we are first introduced to this fictional world there is mystery, adventure, action, cheesy comedy, and sweet romance.

I adore books with ample amounts of fluff and cheesy goodness, so naturally I was excited to start reading this story. Hart seemed to have the recipe down pat on how to write a plot that contains everything needed to make a great book. However this time, instead of trying to balance out all those genres, we are bombarded with a giant mass of romance.

And not the good kind! The sassy banter between Ivy and Jack is normally really cute and quite amusing. I had high expectations for a dazzling romance that warmed up my Grinchy heart! But things go butts up and instead of having an amazing, intimate moment of clarity during a pulse pounding adventure, we get a ridiculous drama flop.

For 90 pages, 90 LONG pages, nothing really happens other than Ivy and Jack acting like a couple of angsty teenagers. Both pining and crying about their situation until Brian talks to them both and points out that they are being difficult. Thank goodness for that man! And Aunt Felicity too! She helped out a lot as well.

Eventually after all the juvenile arguing and pussyfooting around the plot can finally take off. And I will use the word 'plot' loosely as it's not a very deep or thought provoking plot. Someone shoots at both Ivy and Jack and since Jack doesn't know who the perps target was, he goes on the defensive.

He decides to push Ivy away to keep her safe until a later time because he feels that he has put her in danger, which is what causes the fighting and misunderstanding. Then after the two stop acting like butt-heads and make up, they try to figure out who is responsible for firing the gun at them. Why would anyone be shooting at them?

The overall moodiness of Ivy and Jack was very off putting, and the intimacies were absolutely too much! When the lovebirds finally get together I had hoped the moment would be sweet and meaningful. Nope! I like cheese and fluff in my books because it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. But the schmooze in this book made me cringe!

It was so bad! It read like a terrible YA romance chalk full of puppy love *shudder.* All the 'cutesy' words and sweet nothings made me wanna vomit. Max was my favorite character in pointing out how clingy and gross the two act around each other.

The ending was . . . Well, it was an ending. I wasn't shocked or surprised by what was going on or by who did what. I guess there is kind of a cool twist that happens but I feel that it was overshadowed by the gooey romance that takes place front and center.

Now I can't say that I was happy with this third installment. It's not the kind of story I expect to get from this author! But I will still try out the next book because I know that Hart can write a decent novel. I just hope this series doesn't forgo all the other necessary story bits in lieu of straight up romance. Fingers crossed!

Ivy and Jack have finally got together, and are going on their first date! But something happens to derail their happy night, so the next day Ivy decides to go surprise him with a picnic lunch. Things don't go has planned when Ivy gets hurt, and Jack ends up doing something completely stupid.

This book was freaking amazing! I couldn't believe the things that happened to Ivy and Jack in this one. It was just crazy. And then Jack did something so totally stupid, but it added a lot of heartache to the story.

I also thought the slight paranormal aspect to this created some intrigue and made it extremely interesting. I can't wait for more now. I love Ivy and Jack!

Someone is out for revenge..

Jack and Ivy finally manage to go on a proper date at a restaurant in a nearby town, after their meal they head off to get ice-cream and hear multiple gunshots fired close by. Jack, with a maelstrom of emotions protects Ivy and then heads straight towards the scene finding a cop lying in a pool of blood in the street.

His best efforts to save the man fail, leaving Jack feeling helpless and overwhelmed, Ivy tries to keep him from descending into despair but it's not enough to stop his memories.

It's not their case but Jack and Brian aren't going to let it go, someone has killed one of their own it's eating Jack up. When Ivy tries to distract him with a picnic lunch the following day and gets shot in the arm herself it pushes Jack over the edge completely.

He abandons her at the hospital and has a break down, unable to cope the couple part ways..

When the ballistic report comes back showing its the same weapon that Marcus, Jack's old partner, tried to kill him with and a further attempt is made on Ivy's life. Jack snaps back into action determined to prove to Ivy just how much he loves and needs her.

As the case progresses it takes some crazy twists and it's going to be a shock to all when the real killer reveals themselves. How many people will the killer take for vengeance? Can Jack and Ivy survive to love and fight another day?

Ivy and Jack have finally decided to start dating.. but things don't go as planned from the very beginning.. During their first date out of town, a police officer ends up shot and Jack and Ivy find him.. This brings up alot of bad memories for Jack.. The next day they try again and have a lunch time picinic and Ivy ends up getting shot.. It ends up just being in the upper arm, but she is taken to the hospital, and Jack starts freaking out.. Then he ends up leaving her in the hands of her parents and Max, says he will be back, but never comes.. This leads to Ivy crying, Max threatening Jacks life, and all kinds of tension and anger between Ivy and Jack..
After Jack eventually gets his head out of his ass, they make up. (which I thought she forgave him way to fast) and they work to figure out who would want to hurt Ivy to hurt Jared.. Turns out it does have to do with the shooting that left jack for dead in the street. and when other people close to jack partner start to die, they have to go back and investigate to make sure he was really dead. and what happened to the gun that was used in the crime..
This mystery ended up being on the crazier side. with Jacks old partner having actually died, but somehow his spirit ended up in the body of his sister.. Ivy figures it out first when whe ends up seeing the womans ghost..

Ivy and Jared have finally decided to stop fighting their attraction and start dating. However during their first date, they are off in another town and hear gunshots.. When they find the body it turns out its a police officer.. This starts to bring up some bad memories for Jack..
Then the next day Ivy and Jared go off on a picinic together in the park, everything is going well..... until Ivy gets shot.. She is taken to the hospital and turns out the bullet went into her shoulder, however Jared is freaking out.. So much that he ends up leaving Ivy at the hospital with her family and not coming back. So this makes a lot of tension and friction between Ivy and Jared.. They end up making up after a little bit, but things are a bit strained between the two. I didn't really like how fast Jared was forgiven.. It seemed really fast, especially with how upset Ivy was with him.
The mystery in this one is pretty crazy.. It has to do with Jared partner who shot and left him for dead on the streets of detroit.. When other people this guy new start dying, Jared and Ivy try and figure out what is going on..

Another fun series from Lily Harper Hart

Once again, the characters are amazing. The reader is immediately transported in to Shadow Lake's community, and knows the central figures almost immediately. Ivy is a slightly damaged soul - she doesn't care about the idiots who bad mouth or shun her, but she is petrified of being hurt. She'd rather be alone. Jack is badly damaged emotionally, and refuses to care for anyone.

Jack and Ivy finally are trying to explore a possible relationship, and go on their first date, only to hear gunshots: a police officer is shot at point blank range on the next street, setting off all of Jack's demons. He's on the edge, and then Ivy is shot, pushing Jack over that edge and he walks out of the hospital, leaving Ivy without a word. Ivy, of course, is badly hurt, and responds by shutting out all mention of Jack.

Until ballistics show that that the bullet that hit Ivy came from the same gun as killed that police officer. And shot Jack. Jack has an enemy from the past, and Ivy is determined to help him through it, even if it means talking to a ghost??

entertaining paranormal cozy mystery series

This is an entertaining paranormal cozy mystery series. A great cast of characters and an entertaining storyline. Abby Morgan is one of a number of characters with special abilities in this magical world. She is a young woman who has unique Kiliti‘s and is beginning to realize and discover more every day. Her aunt happens to be a witch with certain abilities as well. Along with her boyfriend the local detective she ends up getting mired in some of his cases by chance or on purpose. She owns a local greenhouse and nursery and is considered by many in town as a bid odd. She fits perfectly with her new boyfriend and the situation they get into sometimes you’re funny and other times a bit nerve-racking. Read on and follow the adventure in this story. It is entertaining With a bit of action a bit of romance and a bit of mystic mystery. Enjoy.

Good Mystery

I loved the mystery, and the paranormal twists associated with it. I was hoping to see more paranormal in the series, so that was a happy development. What I did not like was the development of Jack's character. I understand the horrors of what he went through being betrayed and shot by his partner when he lived in Detroit. But I like to read fantasy, with heroes, tough guys who will do anything for their woman. His constant walking away and especially when she needs him the most was a big disappointment. But the crying was going too far. Once when she was shot, ok, but three times? She wasn't even hurt the last time, just in danger. Maybe many readers like a sensitive man, but that was just too much for me. I loved the mystery though, so will read the next book.

The first official date for Jack Harker and Ivy Morgan is interrupted by the shooting of a police officer in a neighboring town, which sends him back into his shell, hurting her more than he could even understand. She retreats into her shell since, all along, she knows it will happen (he would leave her). It takes serious head-banging to break the shells a second time.

This Witch & Wizard Mystery is exceptional. The breakup of the main characters causes this story to be a bit hard to read. Once the discomfort is over, the mystery becomes the main focus, which is much easier to handle. The ending is extraordinary.

Entertaining. Happily Ever After. Haunting. Page-turner. Romantic. Scary. Tragic. Unpredictable. Whimsical. Wonderful characters.

Date night turns into a nightmare

Awesome. Now that they have actually admitted their feelings for each other, they arrange their first date only to be near a shooting of a police officer. Matters get worse when she is shot while the two of them are enjoying a picnic lunch. Causing him to freak out! Can she forgive him? What possible link could her shooting and the officer's have? Add in possession, obsession and a desire for revenge for a great plot that has a definite paranormal angle. Okay I understand why the ending had to end the way it did but I still wish that it could have ended differently. The innocent should not have to pay for a guilty ones action. Terrific read.

That was so cute! I loved it! I liked that the fairy ring was used. I like that a ghost appeared and helped in this book. The more magic, the BETTER! That’s my philosophy. I was on the edge of my seat and a ball of nerves through some of this story (at about 61% in the story). It was right where it was found there was only one signature on Marcus’ autopsy instead of two. And the mother was found entombed in her own home. Talk about heebie geebies!
Once again I’ve and Jack saved the day and I’m sure the next story will deal with Jack’s past haunting of his gunshot wounds. Seems as the chest holes scars heal with Ivy’s cream, his heart is healing at the same time by Ivy herself.

Now onto book 4 - Wicked Places

I ... Don't get me wrong, these are good books but I couldn't get fully immersed because I ... Well, I kept getting pulled from the story by the constant use of I ...'s by EVERY character. I ... Truth be told, in addition to that distraction, both the main characters kept popping their necks. Pick a quark and stick it to ONE person. Don't throw in multiple quarks and have everyone share them, especially across non family members and people from out of town. It will be a while before I come back to this series, but I will come back to it. I enjoyed the characters and the story so maybe some time between books will help alleviate the distractions.

I wasn’t sure how I felt about this series, and I have read several others by this author. I was leaning in by Book 2 but this is the book that clinched it for me. There were some character and plot twists that sealed the deal. I just finished and am happy that I have some down time coming up to engage with the rest of the series. What I like the most is some of the developing understandings of the “powers” of the title character. Instead of knowing all that she can do from the start of the series. If you are struggling with this series try the Witches of the Midwest series. by the same author. They have a little more humor to them.

DNF at 13%. Honestly, I should have dropped this series sooner, but I was too lazy to find another series.

I kept waiting for a plot. Pages and pages of Ivy and Jack being obnoxious with their shallow attraction to each other. Yes, I get it, you feel funny when you look at each other. That's not that interesting. There are lots of attractive people in the world -- I want to be convinced that THIS attractive person is special, and not just because they're attractive.

Also, I want the mystery I was promised. A guy gets shot... and they just go home. I assume this turns into a mystery at some point, but I'm not sticking it out this time.

Tortured souls and tortured hearts

Jack and Ivy break up. Huh? With all that's gone on? The partner that almost killed Jack is back, seemingly from the grave, and now he wants to kill Ivy. Let's face it, what better way to hurt Jack, right? So Jack walks out.
Taking any bets on how long that lasts? Worse, maybe the killer isn't Jack's old partner, maybe it's his sister out for revenge. Or is it? Race to the finish line with this one and find the saddest victim of all.

Ok

The first Ana second book were ok. This third book just repeats the same issue over an over again. Also they say on one page that Marcus was cremated his ashes in an urn on his mothers fireplace, then Jack says he put flowers on Marcus grave. Did no one read the book first their are so many contradictions that the books story is hard to follow. Jack is always crying Really? They are always repeating the say mistakes Jack made, really move on it is on going you really loose the story line. I will try book 3 since I don't pay for them see if the Author got back on track.

OH, AWESOME. ONE PERSON NEEDLESSLY PUSHING THE OTHER AWAY “FOR THEIR OWN GOOD.” I’VE NEVER BEEN THROUGH THIS UNNECESSARY BULLSHIT BEFORE.

“What did the doctor say?”
“The doctor said you’re an ass!
Agreed, Brian. Agreed. It’s the oldest trope in the book and one of the worst.

Fortunately, as evinced by my rating, the remainder of the book pulled through, and it ended up even better than the first one. I couldn’t forgive the crap endured in the first few chapters, though, and had to demote it from five stars.

Looking forward to the next one!

I realized this was a cheesy series from the beginning so that was no surprise to me. I was annoyed however, when the same bit about the female lead having her feet out of the covers at night was repeated from book 2 to this book. It was even discussed between more characters. I didn't find it to be an interesting factoid or cute quirk about her; it seemed pointless and came across as a way to fill the page.

Still Loving the Series

This one was pretty emotional what with Jack freaking out when his past comes to haunt him quite literally. Ivy and Jack hurting sucked to read, but luckily, that part of the book wasn't dragged out. Ivy even gains another ability. She really is magic. Ivy and Jack are my new favorite sappy couple.

Fun read

It's a good read. The writer always ends with a happy conclusion. I like the snark but the stupidity of the main character bothers me too much. I'm all for strong independent women but some of the things she does are stupid not quirky fun, naive but plain stupid. I get she gets to be the hero, happy ending. Still enjoyable if you can get past the stupid.

Wicked Times

I gave the story four stars. The nasal narration and irksome behavior of the heroine prevented the five stars. When I first met Ivy in the Rowan Gray series, she seemed to be more mature. Perhaps she will improve soon. I'm willing to give this series a little more time.

Lots of love and laughs

This is my first series by this author. And I enjoyed that she can weave love , laugh and danger in the same paragraph. Ivy and Jack are solving crime ,fighting and are both delightfully a little different. Ivy's brother, Max and Jack's boss, Brian add some spice, too. Anyone who enjoys a snarky sense of humor will enjoy these

Good read

Book 3 has humor, murder, mystery, kidnapping, danger, separation and reuniting, and magic. Our heroine is very snarky, sassy, very independent and Wiccan. Our hero is a hunk, a brave and dedicated detective with baggage, and is driven crazy by our heroine. Highly entertaining.

I really like this series: good plots, very quirky and likeable characters, and a good narration style. This time, Ivy and Jack have to fight against a blast from Jack's past, of course with the help of all the other characters.
Once I can afford it, I will buy the next bunch of 3 books in this series.
