I enjoyed The Earl's Christmas Pearl by Megan Frampton, even though it was first book I've read in the series.

I got this adorable novella signed by the author in person, so I was hoping it would be a winner. Novellas are always hard for me because they usually aren't long enough to fully get the level of emotion that I want in my romance. The Earl's Christmas Pearl managed to get close, but I didn't get all the way there.

I enjoyed the puns, the Christmas theme, and the angst-free romance. An easy, fun read, and I'm glad I have this signed for my physical bookshelf.

So upfront - if "historical accuracy" (which if you follow me, you know my feelings about :D) is one of the most important things to you in a historical romance, you're not going to like this. This is all possible, but not probable. That said. I could not care less, because this was so much fun. I mean, it's based on a "Home Alone" set up and has an adorable Corgi named Mr. Shorty. And a snowed-in, forced proximity element. Hello-- this is all my catnip. I had a great time with this one & it's probably my favorite Christmas novella of the year so far

This was such a charming holiday novella! Home Alone meets historical romance in a grumpy/sunshine romance with an adorable corgi? I loved it! It was funny, sweet, and sexy with plenty of holiday vibes.

Lady Pearl is thrilled to have been left behind in the London townhouse just before Christmas! That is, until she realizes there is no food, she doesn't know how to cook, and the house is cold. Meanwhile, a grumpy earl recovering from a leg injury is staying alone at a neighbors house. But he has food and knows how to cook! This was so much fun and definitely made me want to read more from Megan Frampton as it was my first outing with her. If you're looking for a short and sweet holiday romance, this is a great pick!

I’ve enjoyed the books in series, so there was no way I was going to skip a Christmas novella.

I loved Pearl and Owen. She feels a little invisible and wants an adventure. He feels a little used and want to be left alone. Together they’ve been somewhat thrown together and have a great time learning about each other.

Plot wise, it was sweet. There’s loads of conversation and puns and each one provided something the other needed. I really enjoyed seeing them talk and even though it was a quick story, their relationship felt fleshed out.

Overall, it was a fun read and easily a couple I hope to see more of.

Lady Pearl Howlett's family has accidently left her behind in London. She's excited to be, for once in her life, blissfully alone. Owen Dwyfor, Earl of Llanover, is recouperating from an injury at his godmother's townhouse...right next door to Lady Pearl. After some reluctance, the two come together for an unexpectedly special Christmas.

This novella completes the Duke's Daughter's series. While I wish Pearl had her own full length novel, I was satisfied with her story. The Home Alone plot was fun, I really liked hero Owen, and pet Corgi Mr. Shorty was a lovely addition.

Adorable! This was such a cute and quick holiday treat. I easily loved Pearl and Owen AND Mr. Shorty the corgi.

To keep this short, these two were meant for each other and reading about them figuring that out had a constant smile on my face. This is filled with terribly funny puns, steamy scenes, and just plain holiday goodness.

If you are looking for a historical holiday novella then pick this one up!

The Earl's Christmas Pearl by Megan Frampton is book 4.5 in the A Duke's Daughters Series. This is the story of Pearl Howlett and Owen Dwyfor, The Earl of Llanover. I have read the previous books but fee you can make this a standalone book if you wish to do so. Pearl finds herself home alone when her family heads out leaving her accidentally behind. But Pearl wants to make the most of this freedom but finds she has limits by herself. Owen just wants to have a Christmas alone with his faithful dog but things go the other way when Pearl comes by with her story and a quiet Christmas seems to be going out the door.
Loved this book and this author's writing.

This sweet novella was perfect for my craving of a Christmas in July story. A funny Home Alone situation for the heroine, accidentally left home while her family goes celebrate, was the perfect opportunity for Lady Pearl Howlett to explore the wild side she always longed for. But it's much more fun to do that with her neighbor, the Earl of Llanover and his pet corgi.

The twelve days of Christmas retelling at the start of each chapter were so fun to read and telling you I haven't read the books in the series is my way to tell you you can read this novella as a standalone.

My review :

When two persons estranged from their kin cross another’s road, what will they do when their time up together is close to its end...

How I do love those Christmas tales, they cheer up the mood anytime of the year. And this holidays story wrapped with Home Alone and a not so grumpy Scrooge was a delight.
I do not remember well Pearl from my read of her sister’s story but with some many different siblings, I can understand her joy to find herself with no one to be compared to.
It was funny to follow her while she discovers happily how to do things by herself. She is amusing and considers her troubles with a smile, approaching this new experience as an adventure. And nothing will deter her of the pleasure of each of her find.
Owen is no true Grinch, he just wants to recover from his ordeal and for once be free from his family’s demands. In spite of being a peer, he is no cad nor rake, he works with his hands and earns his money. Why he feels awkward among others. Behind his grumpy mask, there is a man longing to find someone who will have no expectations from him except things freely given.
His chance encounter with Pearl opens his heart to hope, for once she is one demanding and expecting nothing from him, she just wants to share her love for the Christmastide and encourage him to let merriment fills his soul.

Despite being fast paced, it was a fabulous narrative of getting in touch with your inner child, to see magic in even little details, enjoying a hot chocolate, the happiness of simple accomplishments like a meal made by oneself, dressing a Christmas tree, kisses exchanged between they made your belly flutter....
A big thanks to Mrs Megan Frampton for reminding me how the simplest of things are to be appreciated and enjoyed fully.

Series: Duke’s Daughters #4.5
Publication Date: 10/29/19
Number of Pages: 144

This is a really quick, lovely, fun Victorian Christmas story. It is well written and the characters are relatable and very sweet. You cant go wrong with this book if you want a romantic Christmas read.

Lady Pearl Howlett is the ‘NOT’ sister. Nobody particularly notices her other than she is NOT the intelligent sister, and she is NOT the scandalous sister, etc. Even her mother doesn’t really notice her – that is how she came to be left alone in London during Christmas. Her mother just left her at the townhouse – not even noticing that she wasn’t in the carriage.

Pearl almost ran out after her mother’s carriage, but then decided not to do so. She thought it would be wonderful to be on her own and have her own adventure. After she considered all the things she could do – like skating through the hallway -- she realized that she had no food in the house, no servants, and she didn’t know how to do anything for herself. She couldn’t light a fire, and she couldn’t cook even if she did have food. So, what is a girl to do? Our intrepid Pearl found a way to make it happen.

Owen Dwyfor, Earl of Llanover has come to London over Christmas for two reasons – one is that he has a leg injury and the doctor is in London and the other is that he just craves some time alone. His sisters and his mother make constant demands on him and he’d love to have some time for himself. He’s staying at his Godmother’s home, but she has visited other family for Christmas. He doesn’t have any servants either, but he does have some food – and he can build a fire – and even cook eggs for himself.

Owen and Pearl are staying in homes right next to each other and they meet out on the street where they are staying. Their adventure is fun to watch because they are really two kindred spirits designed to complete each other. I love that Pearl thinks of Owen as “his grumpy earlness”

It is definitely a light-hearted fun read and I hope you will enjoy it as much as I did.

A delightful Christmas novella, which I read in a sitting. I loved grumpy Owen who became less grumpy as he spent more time with Pearl. Pearl was a joy & I loved how she came out of the shell when she could be herself. I also loved how they really saw & came to know each other. My only quibble was that we don’t have groundhogs in the UK!
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

4.5 cute light christmassy ⭐️s!
This was a very lighthearted Christmas tale with a slightly grumpy misunderstood hero and a giddy adorable forgotten heroine. I enjoyed their interactions and there is a CORGI. I REPEAT. CORGI.

This was the first book I read in this series and, to be honest, Pearl didn’t have many nice things about her sisters so I’m not interested in their romances. But this novella was short and sweet.

The Earl's Christmas Pearl is book 4.5 in the Duke's Daughters series by Megan Frampton. I haven't read any of the other books so can happily say that this book can be read as a standalone one.

Lady Pearl Howlett feels constricted by society and its rules for women. When she finds herself in London, home alone after her parents leave for the country without her (think of Kevin in the Home Alone movies) she is absolutely thrilled. She isn't sure how long she will have until she is missed, but until then she intends to do everything that being a 'lady' prevents her normally from doing. Things, like jumping on the beds, skating in the house, and twirling around arms akimbo, come to mind, but she decides her first adventure will be going out on her own for a hot chocolate, or even ale. It isn't until evening is upon her and she realises she doesn't even know how to light a fire for warmth, nor does she have food in the house that some of the excitement of being alone wanes. She decides to call on her neighbour for some help.

Owen Dwyfor, The Earl of Llanover has come to London from Wales to escape his family and to recuperate in peace after hurting himself on his estate there. His Godmother isn't in residence so he takes advantage of having her house to himself. It just so happens that that house is also the house which Pearl is about to ascend on for help. They both have a huge surprise when she knocks on his door.

At first, Owen isn't pleased that his solitude has been interrupted but when Pearl explains her circumstances it soon comes to light that she isn't the usual 'lady' of society. He is immediately attracted to her and loves how open and honest she is. Pearl is equally attracted to him and sees him and treats him unlike anybody else does. She wants to help him, she listens to him and doesn't put constant demands on him. She is a breath of fresh air. They decide to spend time together in his house so that they could help each other at least until Pearl's family arrives for her. Christmas is just a day away so they are bound to try to get to her before then.

It was wonderful reading how they got on so perfectly together, how they were a balm to each other and when they gave in to their passions it was worthy of reaching for a fan! Would those passions lead to a more permanent future, or will the couple have to go their separate ways when the time comes? This book had a wonderful ending, so you can guess what they decide to do!

I was definitely in the festive spirit from reading this book, I especially liked how at the start of each chapter the author reworded a section from the 12 Days of Christmas carol to relate to the story. I sang each section in my head which made me smile. The whole book had a feel-good element to it which I loved.

Sometimes it felt as if the writing was a little modern for the time it was set in, and I also don't believe that Wales ever had Groundhogs. But, despite those little negative points I did thoroughly enjoy this book and am happy to recommend it.

When she is accidentally left behind at her family's London townhouse during Christmas, Lady Pearl Howlett is thrilled to have some time alone. However, as a privileged duke's daughter she doesn't know how to cope with practical matters such as feeding herself, not that there's any food to be found in the closed up house anyway.

Owen Dwyfor, the Earl of Llanover, is spending the holiday nursing an injured leg in his godmother's London townhouse. He's looking forward to being away from his managing mother and sisters and not being scrutinized for being awkward or grumpy. Until his neighbor, Lady Pearl, comes to crash his solitude seeking food. Soon the two find themselves snowed in and banding together to conserve resources and it becomes apparent that they have more in common than just being alone at Christmas.

This was such a cute Christmasy story. Yes, it's instalove, but Pearl and Owen have time together with no outside interference, totally unfettered from society's rules, and this enables them to truly be themselves and come to know each other fairly well. Owen was adorably gruff and awkward and charmingly caring underneath the irritable exterior. It was nice to see him have someone to look out for him for a change and I liked that Pearl was decisive in knowing her own mind and standing up for what she wanted.

I wasn’t sure what to expect from this book but I was pleasantly surprised! It was quirky, had an adorable meet-cute and the perfect amount of scandal for a historical romance novella. I requested this ARC mainly because of the historical setting and Christmas element… It’s my favourite holiday of the year and I CANNOT WAIT to get my hands on more romances like this. They add a certain extra cheer to the build up of my fav festive season! Yes… I’m the person who starts decorating in October!

The Earl’s Christmas Pearl was an endearingly sweet story of an awkward, grumpy man and a free-spirited young woman in search of independence from the constraints placed upon her life. The scandal was positively salacious and kept my full attention! This was quite a steamy read but nothing that overtook the whole novel. It was a slow-burn with witty banter and the inclusion of some hilarious puns. I’ll definitely give this a re-read sometime!

After some reluctance, the two come together for a joyous—and steamy—Christmas they won’t forget.

Characters:
Lady Pearl Howlett – Pearl’s enthusiasm for life and trying to accomplish tasks on her own was endearing. I couldn’t help but support her attempt to live on her own without maids or assistance. She’d been sheltered her whole life and the stifling nature of it tore at my heart. This story made me appreciate how much freedom I have in my life, especially when Pearl’s greatest excitement was being able to learn how to cook her own eggs. At the age of twenty! I’m not a good cook ( AT ALL ) but I’ve finally found someone who shares my same enthusiasm and lack of skill. I’m so glad she ended up with a man that was respective of her wish to be self-sufficient and willing to help her achieve it.

Earl of Llanover – Owen was a breath of fresh air from the usual scandalous rakes that fill these books. He was awkward, shy and grump as all get-out. His injury was not seen as a weakness nor was it ignored in this story. Owen’s character was embraced for all of his imperfections and he was no less masculine or capable for it. I loved how Frampton was not shy to include a stubbornly grumpy hero that wasn’t above letting Pearl gain independence and control. He completely stole my heart and made this book go from average to so so charmingly sweet!

Overall this was a VERY CUTE and FUN read. What held my rating back was the fact that the setting was not as well done as it could have been, nor did the story include some elements at the end that I had been waiting the whole book for. The characters, their budding love and witty banter were all there though! If this had been a full length novel with some added depth including better writing of the setting as well as additional characters it would be a 5-star. As these elements can’t always be realistically added in to a novella of this length it was understandable and still enjoyable!

I received an ARC of this book to read through Edelweiss+ in exchange for a fair review. The Earl’s Christmas Pearl is a Duke’s Daughters series Christmas Novella by Megan Frampton.
Lady Pearl Howlett was accidentally left behind when her mother left London to spend Christmas at the family seat in the country. Alone for the first time in her life Pearl is delighting in the freedom this brings until she realises that being alone also means there is no food in the house. Owen Dwyfor, Earl of Llanover has come to London from Wales to seek treatment for an injured leg and is spending Christmas next door to Pearl at his godmothers home. He too is delighted to be alone and enjoying the peace and solitude when Pearl comes knocking on his door seeking sustenance. They share a lovely Christmas adventure complete with the joy of knowing someone who understands you and quite a few witty puns. I enjoyed this story very much and recommend it as a pleasurable escape from the bustle of the Christmas season.

Lady Pearl is not like her sisters, her mother or even one to bring notice to herself. That explains her being left behind when the family heads out to the country for the holidays. While she thought perhaps she’d like to be a part of the festivities – she’s decided that time alone, gloriously alone to make her own decisions and choices with no one directing her sounded like heaven. She just never realized that the house, cleared for closing, would mean she would have to fend for herself – and having zero practical skills as a Duke’s daughter, that could make the whole experience rather more difficult.

Owen Dwyfor, Earl of Llanover, has packed up his beloved pet Mr. Shorty the corgi and headed off to his London townhouse to heal and remove himself from the annoyance of people hovering and suggesting things for him. Wanting nothing more than solitude and quiet – no one is more surprised to run into Lady Pearl, unchaperoned and alone during the season.

This was adorable, quick reading and full of banter and puns. Mr. Shorty is just a rascal (as most corgis are) and once Pearl and Owen discover that the constraints of society and ‘meddling ton’ are removed, they are able to be themselves with one another, and it leads to some wonderful discoveries for them both. It was sweet to see the trappings of society and expectations fall from their shoulders and, with expecting nothing of the other, finding great joy in sharing the time together. A lovely installment that fleshed out the two characters and their relationship nicely with plenty of conversation, self-discovery and amusement.

I received an eArc copy of the title from the publisher via Edelweiss for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

This was really cute.

Pearl was accidentally left behind by her mother and she's excited because she can do things without worrying about offending someone nearby. Like running around in her stocking feet, getting hot chocolate, and more. But she's finding that without the servants to cook, keep the home warm, finding her cloak to go out, or redressing she's in danger of starving and freezing.

Owen is staying at his godmother's home alone, except for Mr. Shorty, his dog...I think it's his dog, recovering from an injury. He's happy about being alone because finally no one is needing him for anything. However the next door neighbor is needing some help but she's far more delightful than his family.

I enjoyed this, it was a quick read. Pearl and Owen were cute together. I couldn't really stand their mother's.

I guess I've read book 3 or 4 in this series, I don't remember it at all. And while I did enjoy this one, I could tell that if it had been longer I wouldn't have stuck with it and continued to the end. With the one I read previously I mentioned that's what happened, I set it down and didn't feel the need to pick it up again, still did but pretty sure the last half was skimmed.

Yeah! I'm glad that I gave this author one more try. This was a very cute Home Alone Christmas novella that did NOT have insta-love. I loved the pacing, which is normally what turns me off of novellas. Even though it was only over a two-day period, it had enough witty, humorous conversation, fun Christmas activities that they did together, cute little cooking lessons in the kitchen... that by the time they finally started to act on their romantic feelings, it felt like the perfect timing.

I loved the heroine and her fresh personality, she was the star of the book :)

The only reason I did not give it a fifth star... There was a little too much mention of the heroine's sisters (and their individuality), the hero's sisters (and how they use the hero for their own needs too often), constantly reminding us that the hero was grumpy.... just too much repetition of certain parts. I wish the hero was a tad bit more grumpy too, to fit his description.

But overall, a super cute Christmas story with a completely unique fun storyline. And I read this out of order, so it could be read as a stand-alone (I think).

"At least they noticed you were gone. (...)
I know you're here," he replied in a low tone. He brushed his lips at the nape of her neck, and she shivered. "You are all I want. Perhaps tied up with one of those ribbons."

If you're like me and looking for a christmas novella look no further than The Earl's Christmas Pearl. I loved everything about this. It's set in London and the set up is based in Home Alone. The heroine gets left behind by her mother during the holidays, after which she meets the reluctant Hero. This serves the grumpy/sunshine trope and the close proximity trope, there's an adorable corgi named Mr. Shorty, it's funny and the romance is adorable and sexy. I mean, what's not to love. I ate this up and it's now my favourite christmas novella no doubt.

The Earl's Christmas Pearl is a holiday themed standalone novella that's part of Megan Frampton's Duke's Daughters series. If you read the series then you'll be familiar with Pearl the last unmarried Duke's daughter and the premise of the whole series. Although it can be read as a standalone, this particular novella will probably resonate more with the fans than with first time readers. Only because the story comes at the tail end. Nevertheless Pearl as a heroine is simply delightful and the Earl, Owen, is grumpy, handsome, Welsh and best of all has in his possession a Corgi! This is a fun and delightful close proximity romance that's just perfect for the season!

This was such a cute Christmas romance! I read this in one sitting and couldn’t put it down. I’ll definitely be checking out more from this author. A cute, clever Christmas treat. Megan Frampton has a great sense of humor.
"Was there a pub for ladies or was that just called a drawing room?"
"Because being alone was wonderful, she assured herself. But it wasn't nearly as much fun as teasing a handsome grumpy Welsh gentleman?"
