Sadly this one is a DNF for me and though I finished at 18% here as this was an extremely long book (717 Pages) I actually read a fair whack before throwing in the towel.
This book just wasn't a good fit for me: though it should have been as I usually love this type of fiction.
So firstly I found the style of narration used here hard to get used to.
I would have eventually settled into this but I also wasn't that fond of the central characters who to me came across as shallow and self-servi

It felt like the book was trying to hard to cover all the bases of vampiric lore. They are old world, powerful, driven by and thereby sex, work in covens, and highly territorial. They mate for life which is when blood is exchanged. But the sex swings from sweet to BDSM without feeling satisfying in any way. There is no intensity, no true emotion. There are merely quick glances into very complicated back stories we are never told and characters walking through their roles. It all was very Twiligh ...more

Emily Bex grabs you from the first page and never lets you go. WOW. I am drawn in to the steamy love story between Shade and Kate. Even the secondary characters are well thought out and developed. The power house first book only leads me to believe that each book will take me further on this journey and I look forward to the next release. I have been a long-time fan of both JR Ward and Lara Adrian, and this looks like it will be another epic series in the paranormal romance genre. It is a modern ...more

An excellent love story with a paranormal kick. Travel, art and history. A delicious tale of vampires in a new light. I can not wait for the next book within this series.

Oh dear

I've read many contemporary author's books with vampires (Blake, Fast, Feehan, Grosso, Hardt, Harris, Hartnady, Meyer, Rose, Savino, Ward). So when a new author came on the scene with a great cover and compelling blurbs I was happy to one-click. But the reading wasn't as good as the advertising. Over 700 pages that could have been reduced to 300 had the editor been doing their job. This is not the age of Dickens where the writer gets paid by the word! Scenes do not need to be rehashed fro

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

My advice: Give the book a shot if it sounds good to you, but if it isn't speaking to you the whole time, just move on.

I wanted to like this book at first, but even in the prologue I knew that I was not going to like the author's writing style. Conversations felt disconnected and repetitive - well the whole middle of the book felt repetitive, how many times will these characters have to reassure each other that they won't leav

Do you love vampires as old as time, spicy redheads, a world of things that go bump in the night? Then put them all together and you have an exquisitely spicy Paranoramal Love Story in “The Blood Covenant: Book One of the Medici Warrior Series”! Fall in love with Shade and Kate as they figure out how to make two very different worlds come together as one. This is one very titillating journey that fills you up and leaves you feeling a warmth for more.

“You love me for me. Without you I would still be lost, for I have found what I was seeking my whole life, my eternal mate…”

Shade is their Warrior King and has been existing to fight and destroy rogue vampires for 500 years. Perhaps I'm a sucker for a vampire story, no pun intended, but I was engrossed after the first few chapters. I won't recap the whole book, you can read the blurb for that. What I will say is it is well-written and I thought the story-line was phenomenal! At first, I was a bit taken aback at the amount of pages but it read as quick for me as a book with many fewer pages. Once I realized the book recapped scenes from different characters POV, it explained the quantity of pages, and it wasn't somet ...more

I received an ARC in exchange for my rewiev.

Just to be clear, I rarely give 5 star ratings, which doesn't mean I don't enjoy a book. And when it comes to PNR books, most of the series I've read, including J.R. Ward, Larissa Ione and my favourite Kresley Cole, start slow, so does this one.

My biggest problem with this book, okay, two, are the writing style (not a huge fan of present tense) and double pov. This is a long book, a very long book and if you're going to write the whole scene from both

I was concerned when I saw the reviews for this book, but I’m glad I chose to go ahead with this read. Lots of the reviews said that some of the story was repetitive, I have to say it was not how reviewers made it sound and it did not ruin the book. Love this vampire romance, Shade is a master, Royalty, and a warrior, but inside he’s lonely and looking for a true love, that’s when he meets Kate, but she’s mortal, how will this work.
Loved the story, plot and characters, apart from Rissa and Alec

This is the first book in the series about vampires set in the states, as the vampire king Shade does a job and while there he meets his mate Kate. This is the story of how they meet and romances Kate into his world. I normally like books in this genre but I found this book to be to long the main characters a bit boring and the heroine sweet but weak with very little about her. The writing style was confusing at times with switching between characters. Also with going from character to character ...more

To be honest it's not terrible it just wasn't enough to keep me entertained. It feels like I'm moving through molasses trying to get to something worth reading. This book made you feel like something was going to happen but never did or it went exactly as you would expect. It started to get really cheesy on the whole romance thing and made me want to stop reading. I really tried with this story but after reading 1/2 way through I can say I gave it my best. I literally have been as patient as I c ...more

A well written romance between a mortal and vampire. I loved the chemistry between the two main characters of Shade and Kate and enjoyed how their relationship developed. My only critism if I had one is that in places it seemed to drag on and the love between them seemed abit too much at times, we didn't need chapter after chapter of it. But that overall is a small critism, it's still a really good book, and has left me wanting to read the follow up...I have to know what happens next!

I really enjoy the overall story line of this novel
However there were a few parts in the middle that I thought could use some excitement. I felt it dragged a bit with too much “happiness” and not enough conflict and the novel is a longer one. Towards the ending she does kick it up a notch and it truly grabbed me until the end which in turn has me anticipating the next book. For those of you who have read the BDB there are some similarities but because I am a huge JR ward fan it’s great to see ot

The Blood Covenant by Emily Bex took me by surprise in the most satisfying way.
If you like reading about vampires then this is the book for you. There is no sparkling in the sunshine here, just a whole lot of heat and a burning true love. The characters have flaws, their own weaknesses and insecurities that they have to work through, if they wish to gain the ultimate prize of happiness. But, they also have enemies that could destroy what they have worked for. So come dive into the lives of Shad

Tough one

3 stars for good writing and a good plot. But I had a hard time truly enjoying it. The h is so shy she can’t even speak in front of him and then she’s totally cool with vampires over night. The H is a king. A master but bows down to his “employer”? It makes no sense. He actually came off sort of weak for not being smart enough to see the signs. Honestly there was a lot of things I just did t agree with but I pushed on to see where it would go but I don’t think I’ll be moving on to the o

Good plot, poor execution.
The scenes from multiple view points was a downer. There were several things that were not consistent especially concerning character traits.

How is it that Rissa could sense death but Shade couldn't?
Why take advice from someone who's never been in the situation?
Why call them for a dr when you're rich and can have your people find the best for you?

Too many questions left unanswered.

Why start small indeed... WOW!!!

This is definitely a long, but worth every single letter typed, whirlwind of emotion and intense paranormal romance!!! I put off buying this series as a birthday gift to myself, and it was definitely one of my top gifts (especially since we're in quarantine, LOL). I was able to find the escape from reality that I crave while reading, and was completely satisfied.
Happy reading : )

Omg Shade and Kate! I couldn’t get enough of them! At first I was kinda off put by Kate because she acted so shy. Shade from the beginning drew me in. He is the perfect example of book boyfriend. If you are looking for a great paranormal series look no further! Emily has just blown me a way with her writing. The details in this book make me feel like I’m right there with the characters! I cannot wait to read book 2!

Great story!

I was very surprised after I read all the poor reviews for this book, and decided to give this author a chance. Im very happy with my decision. It is a great storyline it does drag a little bit in some places but it does not take away from the Amazing Story of the first book I am looking forward to book number 2, all you negative nancys you have missed out on a wonderful story and a great author!

I enjoyed reading this book. Emily Bex has an amazing way of describing locations to where you can almost feel like you're in the story. Shade and Kate have a love story that started quickly and very powerfully that will test the limits time and time again and continuously prove to be worth it. I strongly recommend that you read all the books in the series because each one gets better and better.

Just Wow!

I'm not sure why I decided to read this book but I'm hooked. I read a very wide variety of genres but especially like J R Ward and Christine Feehans vampire series. This series by Emily is going to hit the charts! I have to have it in paper and it will be torture waiting for book two. What an epic tale. Thank you Emily from a new fan.

I really enjoyed reading this book. The book kept me intrigued each chapter I read . I like the chemistry between the characters. This book has a little bit of everything love, betrayal. The only thing I didn’t like, it was repetition of scenes. The book ends with a cliffhanger. Can’t wait to read the next book of the series.

I absolutely loved this book. The author pulls you into their world and you cannot let go. I want to know what happens next. I cannot wait for the next book. This book was really long but I love to read so that’s great for me. If you love the world of vampires, suspense, mystery, love and sex then this is a story that you need to read. I have a new favorite author!
