3.5 stars, but not rounded up.

While this book wasn't a 3 star book it wasn't quite 4 stars either. It's very basic and the plot twist was expected. I would have been more surprised if it hadn't happened.

Meredith is a Chosen. This means she can birth werewolves (since female werewolves are barren). Something about the smell/taste of their blood lets other werewolves know about this. They run the place, by the way, werewolves are top of the food chain and control mostly everything.

When females

4.5 stars! Wow! What a ride. No pun intended. I loved Rex and Vixor. I am so into this story. I thought the world was very well built. I loved the chemistry. Its Hate to Love with a fabulous twist!

And I would call this New Adult without the smut. I was so invested. I need the next part! Addicting!

I was so excited about this surprise release from Kate Avery Ellison. I’m a huge fan of her King Maker’s War series . This re-telling of Little Red Riding in a post- apocalyptic setting was fantastic. You not only get werewolves but a new creature called treecrawlers which are a whole new take on zombies.

I quickly fell in love of the idea of Red and The Silver Wolf falling for each other even though I had an idea of a truth they were going to have to face. There were a couple a inconsistencies

That moment you finish an amazing book, realize it just came out a few days ago, and the second book is not even listed on Goodreads.

I picked up this book after seeing a friend had given it 5 stars. I was not disappointed. The characters were portrayed beautifully, the story kept my interest (to the point of finishing the book in less than 24 hours), the writing was great and no “insert scenario for plot purposes”. Everything flowed in this book and I never got bored. I’m going to start picking

Really enjoying the emergence of the reimagined fairytale genre! The few problems i had with this story were totally overshadowed by the fact that it's such a fun, creative read! I saw the big reveal coming a mile away, but still couldn't put it down. Finished in less than 2 days and can't wait for the next book in this series. I have some ideas as to some secrets we might see in the next story, but I'm hoping I will be surprised. Even if I'm not, I hope it's as enjoyable as the first ...more

Did I read this book because amazon said it was the handmaids tale with werewolves? Yes, did I enjoy it? Also yes

I received a free ebook in exchange for an honest review. In the new world, werewolves rule the land. What was once the United States has been reclaimed by wilderness and is overrun with giant thorn trees. Creatures known as treecrawlers, roam the night, attacking anything with a heartbeat.
On Meredith Rider’s 10th birthday, the werewolf army, known as The Sworn, arrives and murders her parents and her best friend, Kassian. Only Meredith, known to her family as Red, and her grandmother survive the

Pleasantly surprised

I was expecting a red ridding good remake, I got a fresh, unexpected read. Even with the book being as short as it is the characters are well written and easy to like. The plot is not rushed and the world has many layers that are painted very clearly. It was a great read that I was not expecting. I bought the book on a whim and I'm so glad I did. I can not wait to read the next book in the series.

This is one of the most annoying main character I’ve encountered in a book. I wanted to shake her at times for being such a brat and I had more sympathy for the wolves then her. The only reason I was able to finish the book at all was because of the somewhat exciting zombie trees making it more interesting. Overall, the book is biggest disappointment of 2019 thus far.

Um, okaaay....

Yeah, ummm, not what I was expecting.
When I had a read about the book, all I could think about was this book was another fairy tale remake. HA!! Wrong! So glad I gave this one a chance. It's me new favourite.

***I voluntarily reviewed this after receiving a free copy***

What an amazing book to read! This is not your typical Red Riding book. I had my reservations at first, but once I started reading, I was immediately hooked. I can't really compare this book to any other. So basically you have females/girls who are picked to become mates/breeders for a society called the Sworn. I really wanted more background on this but hopefully, I will learn more about this in the next book. But there is controversy

Disappointing though competently written book. Spoilers!

RED RIDER (The Sworn Saga Book 1) by Kate Avery Ellison is for some reason not labelled as a romance. I was hoping throughout that the protagonist, Red, would end up finding her childhood sweetheart, Kassian, and not become romantically interested in the Sworn enemy, Vixor, that she must work with and save the life of in order to reach the city in which her mother and childhood sweetheart were taken years ago—but she just found this out—She

I just discovered Kate Ellison and the Frost series, so I jumped right on Red Rider. Red Rider's story is a sort of Little Red Riding Hood retelling, with a bit of The Handmaid's Tale (that's in the synopsis). It is a YA Dystopian, "let's fight the oppressive overlords" story, but it's still a great story. I felt engaged with the main characters and most of the secondary characters so far (I think there's at least one sequel). The worldbuilding is great, there's some romantic tension, but the ...more

I absolutely loved this book. It hit all the right notes for me: the heroine, Red, is likable and has strong character. She is loyal and stays true to herself. On the other side, Vixor, the Silver Wolf, has an air of mystery about him. Yes, he is tall, dark and handsome but there seems to be something more about him and not just that he is a werewolf and the darling of the Alpha. Red is a Chosen; a human female who can bare offspring for the werewolves as female werewolves cannot bare children. ...more

One word for this book. Amazing. Red Rider is truely an amazing tale, I believe the blurb doesn’t do it justice as I sort of cringed on the idea however it was far better portrayed in the book.
I’m an absolute softy was a slowburn romance it never fails to get me attached to a book but it can sometimes be the only thing that makes me read the book.... however that is not at all the case in this book. No love at first sight, or cringey phrases or sudden loved up moments, it’s a true development

Weak story and world.

World is post-apocalyptic fantasy. Our world has been overrun by werewolves, plants, and zombies ... somehow. I think there was a line about cars not working anymore for an unspecified reason, but electricity is still a thing.

The blurb for the book is the entire story that the book tells. Not much to it.

The characters are meant to be complex, but I just didn't feel it.

Pretty much the whole book relies on the unrealistic premise that (view spoiler)

Red Rider review

I really wanted to love this book. I enjoyed the plot and the world building immensely. I loved Red’s fierce and determined character, and Vixor’s broody yet soft personality.

That being said, I felt like this book needed proofread just a little bit more. There was a lot of grammatical errors, and wrong word choices in place of other words.

The thing that bugged me the absolute most, though, was the fact that Isabel’s name went from Isabel to Isobel. It was used more than once in

Werewolves aren't the most dangerous thing out there?

Great twist to red riding hood. Meredith Rider has had to learn how to deal w0ith life without most of her loved ones in a time that werewolves dominate the world. When she was ten her family was attacked and only her and her grandmother got away.

To be marked as Chosen is like a black mark to the human race, so she has hidden her mark for years. When she attends the hanging of her boyfriend she reveals her secret to protect him. That is only

This story was nothing like I expected. This take on Little Red Ring Hood takes place in a post apocalyptic setting, where zombie like creatures known as treecrawlers roam, and werewolves referred to as the Sworn rule. The main character Meredith "Red" Rider, suffers a great loss in the beginning of the story that helps set the story up to understand why she feels the way she does about the Sworn and another group called the Chosen. This was a quick read and I'm excited not only for the next ...more

Awesome!! Awesome!! Awesome!!

I love this book I love Red so much, she's not helpless which is lovely in a character. She is a survivor and is smart, I seriously cannot wait to read what happens in book two *crossing fingers for more books, pretty please*

So Kassian/Vixor is a cool character too, he doesn't hinder Reds character at all! He isn't too hyped up, I feel like the charm comes from their interaction.

I really hope to see his character develop more in book 2, it seems like there are A LOT

I've always enjoyed fairytales especially the newer versions and I'm also into horses. So, I see the words Red Rider and grabbed the book not knowing what I was getting into. I have very little time to read for fun but I do read on my Kindle whenever I'm at the gym and walking on the treadmill. I needed something to read. Wow! I was pleasantly surprised by this story. It was fast-paced and took me far away from my modern world. I enjoyed every minute, every character, (yes, even those creepy ...more

I loved the new take on the Red Riding Hood fairy tale. I felt terrible for Meredith. She lost so much at such a young age and seemed to just keep having miserable luck. I was shocked at how Neil handled the news of her being a chosen. Honestly, the way society treated the chosen girls was utterly appalling. I can't imagine being put in those girls' situation. I thoroughly enjoyed the vivid imagery woven throughout this book. I am dying to discover what happens to Red and Vixor in the next book! ...more

Fun Read

I am really happy I discovered Kate Avery Ellison. I have enjoyed every book of hers I have read and Red Rider is no exception. Another interesting world that I can't wait to read more about. Red and Silver are a great pair. Kate's books are always a fun read and typically a fast read because I have a hard time putting them down.

Years ago I read the Frost chronicles by this author and I loved that series. I don't get into series that much as its hard to keep up the pace book after book with the same characters. This was not anywhere near as good as any of those books. It was as short read, to fast paced, not enough character development or plot development. It just seemed rushed from beginning to end, and that ruined what could have been a good book ( I have no doubt of this authors talents).

A fast-paced and intriguing story, with a unique take on the classic tale of Red Riding Hood, excellent storyline, well written characters, detailed and vivid descriptions and a complex world building that had me turning the pages faster than I could blink. I'm anxiously waiting for the next installment!

Love tough heroines, tortures (but tough) heroes, start of a slow burn romance with both enemies to lovers and first love tropes thrown in? Werewolves, zombies by another name, brave rebels, and awesomeness all around?

This one is for you then.

I am only sorry I didn’t discover this series later, when more books are out and I can binge read them all.

What the what?! The second book isn’t out yet?! Omg that is SO FRUSTRATING! This book was definitely a quick read. Sucked me in deep and the development of the relationship between Red and Vixor was nail biting? Made me tingle? Almost cry because ... I knew. Ohhhhh, sweet goodness I need book 2 now!
