Overall, an excellent collection of sizzling hot reads, well curated and edited by the amazing Delilah Devlin. Well worth reading and re-reading.
I read an ARC of Rescuing Alaska by Elle James in the Stranded: A Bad Boys Behaving Badly Anthology #4. That is what my rating is for. It's a very well written short story containing an ocean adventure, a struggle for survival, necessary intimacy, followed by the anticipation of a 2nd date and possible future between the characters. It works in a cutesy way. It's like having a bite of a scrumptiously gooey chocolate chip cookie - but only being allowed one bite. Satisfying but not really [long] enough. All of the stories in this anthology feel like really short "scenes" taken from longer stories, you know what's happening in the scene you are watching but the beginning, the ending, and the plot are mostly totally missing. Some of the stories move too fast with the intimacy to be even remotely reasonable (actually a few are downright creepy). Basically 2 types of stories: sexy with a side of story, or sex filled with a side of sex. The ones that get it right involve situations where it actually makes some sense that they..bam...have sex at first glance. The ones I liked have characters who have a little more...say....connection to and dignity while with their partner. This Anthology consists of 14 short stories, only 6 that I truly liked for their sheer originality, decent plot line, and legit connection between the characters. They were: Rescuing Alaska, Reviving Artemis, A Stranger's Kiss, Undercover Lover, Out of This World, and Going Down. The rest I either...ahem....skimmed....or totally skipped over.
The two books that stood out to me was Rescuing Alaska by Elle James and Quincy Down Under by Delilah Devlin.
Rescuing Alaska is an amazing book about two individuals who get swept out to sea and are marooned on an island. There has already been some underlying chemistry between these two but life and death put a new spin on it. Lucas and Katie were one hot couple. I already liked the realness aspect of this. Both of them know the steps needed once they hit the water and what they needed to do to survive. It just helped with the heat factor.
The other book Quincy down under was a little more farfetched as it could be someones fantasy but yet personally I couldn't be that bold. A bounty hunter who is new on the job gets stuck in a bunker with a beautiful beautician. From the first moment there are sparks and a boldness that was amazing to read. I loved that she owned her sexuality and just went for it. I thought his nervousness was hot/cute.
This anthology gives the reader fourteen short stories featuring strong women who are helped by just as strong men, when they find themselves in a tight spot . Whether you like normal individuals , vampires, genetically enhanced humans, werewolves, etc, there is a story for everyone. As fan a of basic contemporary romance, I enjoyed Stranded, by Elle James. The story centers around Coast Guardman Lucas Kramer and charter fishing boat employee Katie Bloom. She’s the gal he’s unsuccessfully convinced her to go out on a date. While on one of the many charter trips Lucas has been on, a storm surrounds the boat and the two of them fall overboard. Will they survive the storm? Will life threatening circumstances change their live? Though the plot and the characters don’t get a chance to develop as well as a full novel, these are still all entertaining as quick reads for an afternoon of leisure. I was entrusted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
This is a fantastic selection of short stories from some of the best authors around at the moment and while I usually struggle with short stories due to the fact that they often feel rushed that isn't the case with these just proving my point that this selection is by top notch authors I haven't read all of them but so far but Elle James and her offering Rescuing Alaska. Lucas Kramer a member of the Cast Guard as been trying to get a date with Katie Bloom for what seems like ages but she won't take him up on his offer. She works for a local charter company when a storm causes them to be swept overboard they will have to work together if they are to survive Will this time away from all outside influences give their love a chance to develop You will have to read to see
Rescuing Alaska by Elle James This short story is super sexy and very sweet. He wanted her and she secretly wanted him but was afraid this Coast Guard wouldn’t stick around for the long-haul. All he wanted was a chance.
Quincy Down Under by Delilah Devlin HOT! HOT! HOT! The bounty hunter and the beautician are very likable characters. These two would make an amazing full length novel. Great story!
Undercover Lover by N.J. Walters They’re reunited lovers and just in the nick of time. The steam factor is off-the-charts with this one. I’d love to read more about these two.
This is a collection of VERY short stories that are full of danger, extremely satisfying sexy times and some surprises. GREAT READ!
This is turning out to be a fantastic collection. I'll base my review on one of the stories as I slowly work my way through them. I look forward to discovering new-to-me authors in this set.
Rescuing Alaska by Elle James – A former Navy SEAL on an Alaskan fishing trip is washed overboard and stranded on a bear-ridden island with the beautiful deckhand This was a fun read, survival turns to lust to survive. The outcome looks promising, but we're left wondering with our own imagination.
This is a set of 14 short stories in all different genres written by multiple authors. I had only ever read one of the authors before this, Elle James, and I love her work enough to try out the boxed set at her recommendation. Am very glad I did. These are a bunch of very talented authors who have come up with amazing stories on the theme of being stranded! Since I enjoy sci-fi I particularly liked the stories in that genre, but the rest of them were also very good.
What a great little collection of short stories. There's a lot of action packed into each of these quick read stories. And such a variety of diverse locations and characters which makes the entire collection more fun to read. There are many wonderful authors involved with this collection, but the stories I read first were by two of my favorites Elle James and Delilah Devlin!
Nice series of short stories by various authors. This is a great way to get a sampling of various authors who might be new to you. I enjoyed all the stories. I especially like the short story by Elle James "Rescuing Alaska" who's one of my favorite authors. I voluntarily received this ARC in exchange for an honest opinion.
I really enjoyed reading the different writing styles and stories of all of these authors. My favorite though, was Elle James. These novellas take you from Contemporary to paranormal, from bad guy and good girl to two people suck together in some very strange situations. It was a fun read!
A great collection of short stories. This review is for Rescuing Alaska by Elle James. This is a short, fun, steamy read that makes you want more. Loved Katie and Lucas together and would love more stories of these two.
I always enjoy these books that have several short stories. They all are sexy as hell. I can always lose myself in each story. I really enjoyed Delilah Devlin's short story. She always knows how to deliver a steamy sexy story.
The great plot was well written and the characters were so well developed that as I turned each page the chemistry between the characters kept me totally hooked until the very last page!
"I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book."
