A brand-new standalone novel in the New York Times bestselling Briar U series!

What I learned after last year’s distractions cost my hockey team our entire season? No more screwing up. No more screwing, period. As the new team captain, I need a new philosophy: hockey and school now, women later. Which means that I, Hunter Davenport, am officially going celibate…no matter ho

I think I'm going to have to sit with this book for a bit before I rate it. On the one hand, I adore Hunter and Demi's friendship and their sloooooow slide to a relationship. On the other, some of the details of this book frustrated me and feel.... off, somehow.

Mar 14, 2019:
I WAS RIGHT. This is officially Hunter's book (announced on Elle's IG).

Feb 21, 2019:
It's definitely not about Rupi (or Hazel). Elle has said we've never met the girl in The Play. It's someone new.

The Play was the perfect NA college novel. A friends to lovers romance that was lighthearted, fun, cute and sweet.

Honestly, The Play was the perfect example for why I enjoy Elle Kennedy’s NA romances so much. Lots of jocks, good looking, smart, kind, and funny guys who enjoy college, parties and girls, but also work their asses off on the ice, and off – lol. And the women are feisty, sassy and smart, and know how to keep the hockey players/jocks on their toes.

The moment our mouths make contact, a hot shiver rolls through me and settles between my legs. My dick is thick, heavy against my thigh. Motherfucker. This kiss is everything.

”THE PLAY” is by far my favorite installment of the Briar U series. Since the first book, I have been anxiously waiting to get my hands on Hunter Davenport’s story. I knew that it was not going to disappoint, and I’m happy to confirm it was well worth the wait! This boo

I. Loved. This!!! The Play might be my new favorite of the Briar U series. I freaking adored Hunter and Demi!!

Thanks to the author for generously providing me an ARC to review.

I love Elle Kennedy's writing style and I adore her sports series. The "Off Campus" series, is definitely one of my favorites and this spin-off is turning out to be one as well ;) I had a blast finally reading Hunter's story and I happy to say that Elle found the perfect girl for him !!

Ever since I was introduced to Hunter Davenport in The Chase and how he got his heart broken I couldn’t wait to get his book. I felt so bad for him and how he behaved in The Risk showed he needed a change. In behavior and what he wanted to do in life.

In The Play Hunter is celibate and very dedicated to succeeding while focusing on his main goal which is hockey. It’s going great also when he gets paired up with Demi for Psych class doing a project. Their bantering is awesome and so funny. I enjoy

it was going well until the last fourth of the book.

can authors PLEASE stop using important and serious topics (i.e. suicide) to further a plot point and (in the case of this book) highlight the main characters achievements while completely ignoring the significance of the actual topic? it’s not cute.

the three stars are mainly for hunter, bucky, and pablo.

I haven’t been in love with an entire series this much before. Not sure how, but Elle Kennedy always creates the perfect college romance and somehow we deserve the absolute delight of reading her brilliant stories! The Play delivered a delicious slow-burn, friends to lovers combined friends with benefits romance that left me emotionally gratified and romantically satisfied. Filled with humour, some favourite past faces (I fucking wept over Dean and Jake), the sassiest heroines and the greatest h

Elle Kennedy knows how to hit the spot just right when it comes to her addictive NA Sports romance. She's able to combine quirky humor with deliciously steamy romance and create page-turning books that seems to get better with each new one in this series. 'The Play' is definitely the best part 'Briar U' series, at least for me.

I loved it! Especially the fact that Demi is a POC, its nice to get some diversity :). Also, I love Hollis and Rupi in the extended epilogue whuch was freakn nuts btw. Overall, it was great to catch up with everyone and even though Elle says that this is the last book in the series I am holding out for more!

So this is not about Rupi and I don't think the heroine is Indian :(. I honestly thought she would be since the cover girl looked brown, but none of the reviews mention
Okay, it's official. I'm tapping out of this series. I've clearly outgrown it or maybe it's just the genre itself. I don't know. I love hockey romances, enjoy ensemble casts that lean heavily on hijinks as the comic relief, but while I did recently reread (and love, again) the series that spawned this one, nothing since THE CHASE has worked. So I guess that was the fluke.

This is everything that you would expect it to be, both as a fan and from what it says on the box. It's got a reformed playboy

BOOM! Did you hear that? That was Elle Kennedy dropping the mic on another AH-MAZING N/A story and the finale to her Briar U series. The Play was the perfect mic drop as Kennedy signed, sealed and delivered the best damn story in the series!! Hunter and Demi were FIRE!! They were sexy and banterific and filled to the brim with the comedic snark that we love from this author. And we haven't even touched their chemistry! Demi and Hunter's sexual tension was palpable. this was fun, entertaining, and all, but plot wise it was rather flat. even when there was a conflict, it was more about the characters having inner struggles with themselves which then affected their relationship and not them dealing with one same issue as a couple. the good thing about this is that both of our main characters had a notable development.

on the flip side, their romance was a bit lackluster. they started off as friends. then when the

Elle Kennedy has my heart taking off into a full sprint every single time with her Briar U series. I just can't get enough of the addictive goodness surrounding this group of Briar athletes and their romantic escapades. The Play fell right in line with all of my favorite Elle Kennedy sports romances that have come before it, a deliciously sexy love story that was so well written, SO damn FUNNY, and so completely unputdownable. I just adored it.

Elle Kennedy never disappoints, and I’m a sucker for her NA romances. What really sold me on The Play, though, was the chemistry that is so palpable between Demi and Hunter.

Hunter was absolutely hilarious. I loved his devotion to his cause, the antics and comedic moments that arose from his restriction. His interactions with Demi were clever and funny as friends and sweet and romantic as a couple. I also loved his interactions with his female roommates as much as

I don’t know if my reading tastes have changed or if Elle Kennedy has lost her touch. Maybe a little bit of both? I used to DEVOUR her books and cry that there weren’t more. But this Briar U series has been a face plant for me. The pacing was off for me. The first 50% of this book was so beyond boring and slow for me. The second 50% was much better but felt incredibly rushed. I liked Demi as a heroine, but Hunter as a hero felt sanitized. He had no personality, it was so weird to me. Ov

elle, i am tremendously disappointed; after two great books i thought this was going to be perfect as well but it was not like that at all.
demi, the protagonist; was dull, boring and not just that, she's supposed to be a latina hA. she describes salsa as a verb (i threw up in my mouth), she's assumed to be a latina because she wears hoop earrings or because she eats food from cuba??? she doesn't even speak spanish??

the only reason I'm not giving it one star is because hunter was a softie and he deserves better!

a note of advice to every white author out there- please research well if you're gonna write poc/lgbt+ characters.... don't stereotype them..... interview actual real poc and get to know about their culture, not just use your characters to get them "woke" points.

It's the disappointment I never saw coming...

I had numerous issues with this book and I had feels that were...also there.

I guess I lied a little in the beginning as I was expecting to be disappointed on some level, given how freaking hyped I'd been for Hunter's book since The Chase, hell, since he appeared in Off Campus series as Dean's protege of sorts.

I'm suffering from a mild case of cognitive dissonance here if I'm being honest. I LOVED the characters. Hunter was soft, cute and overall a g

If you’re a New Adult reader, you probably don’t need this introduction, but being the responsible blogger I am, I’m giving it to you anyway. Every book in this series is so addictive and fun, and Elle Kennedy really shows she’s the queen of the genre with each new release.
