Spend 31 days in God's loving arms and you'll discover the secret to contentment in life. Deep within, many of us sense a longing for fulfillment - a hunger that cries out to be satisfied. Wonderfully, God in His infinite love can satisfy this passionately felt need. Better still, He will - as we let Him. For when we seek to pursue Him first of all, writes author Ruth Myers, our satisfaction with life, ourselves, and our Creator truly is guaranteed. Drawing upon her own deeply personal experience with a God who desires to be intimately acquainted with every area of His children's lives, Ruth Myers paints a dramatic picture of a loving Father who gives us all we need to be satisfied - no matter how severe our struggles, failings, and disappointments. Myers explains, "The heart that has tasted of God's love will always turn back to Him with longing and say, 'Only Your love can meet my deepest needs.'" In The Satisfied Heart, readers will learn how to enter into a deeper, more complete, and thoroughly fulfilling contentment with God - as well as a true delight in all that life brings.
This devotional is taken from her book The Perfect Love, which the Lord used in major ways in my heart as a young believer. It’s a rich devotional, with thoughts all centered on God’s delight in us, with verses at the end of each to spend time in. The first section is her overview of her life and how the Lord has satisfied her in Himself, so you can see she rights from someone who has wrestled with these things. An oldie, but a goodie.
This is one of those horrible books to rate because the content is excellent - exactly what I wanted in an inspirational devotional - but the editing is terrible. I can’t believe anyone has proofread this at all. Maybe they just scanned the document in.
I should note that I got the kindle version. It is possible the paperbook version doesn’t have these issues.
****Please edit this and rerelease. Her content is great and deserves the respect of being proofread before being sold.
Although designed to be read in 31 days, it took almost twice that long to read and re-read the wonderful truths throughout its pages. Ruth Myers is known for her original "31 Days of Praise," but this newer book includes more details about her life as a missionary and widow, and how God satisfied her every need. In each chapter she shares from her own life, quoting from the Bible, especially several beautiful Psalms. She ends each day with a prayer, plus several Scripture references for further reading. It is with sadness I finish this dear book, for this is a library copy I must return. But soon I'll purchase my own forever copy to mark in. It is also published with another title: "31 Days of Drawing Near to God." This would make a great gift.
This is one of the best devotionals I have ever read. Myers has a wonderful way of presenting gospel truths from scripture in a relatable and still challenging way. The book lives up to its title and encourages the reader all throughout to work out what it means to have a satisfied heart - that is, a heart satisfied in God and God alone.
I appreciated the encouragement at the end of each chapter to meditate on scripture allowing for further reflection on who God is and what His "words of love" for us are. I also enjoyed the supplemental quotes, poems, and lyrics throughout the book from the likes of C. S. Lewis and A. W. Tozer, among others.
Overall, excellent read whether you're looking for an every day kind of devotional or one that you can pick up and put down at any time. I received this as a gift and want to be able to pass on the encouragement to others as well because of how much I enjoyed this devotional.
I love this book and it's my third time reading it. Ruth Myers begins the book by sharing how she's grown in the love of God through her life: in losing her husband to cancer on the mission field, single parenting two small children, and remarriage. Through it all, Ruth grows in understanding and resting in God's love. So by the time she gets to the 31 days of devotionals, you feel like you know she's sharing from a deep, well-tested place of faith in Christ. Ruth is a warm and engaging writer. She doesn't just demonstrate head-knowledge of God's love but experience too. And she wants her readers to experience the satisfaction and joy of God's love in their daily lives.
This is a devotional book that I will go back to many times This is a book designed to help the reader deepen their devotional life. I used this book every day for 31 days and enjoyed it tremendously.
