A sparkling new Christmas novella set on Morrow Island in Busman’s Harbor, Maine.

Julia Snowden and her family are preparing for Christmas at the farm. Julia makes a quick trip to New York to move her belongings back home. Acquaintance, Imogen Geinkes invites herself to the family gathering and trouble follows her like a magnet.

This is an entertaining short story that displays home, hearth, and family amidst a strange murder scene that Author Barbara Ross neatly wraps up in a clever ending.

While short a very good book by Ms. Ross.
Nogged off by Barbara Ross is a part of the A Maine Clambake Mystery series. If you read Eggnog Murder which came out a year ago (three novellas in one book), then you have already enjoyed Nogged Off. Julia Snowden goes to clear out her Tribeca apartment and ends up taking Imogen Geinkes home to her mother’s house for the holidays. Murder and confusion soon ensues. I enjoyed reading Nogged Off. It is well-written and proceeds at a steady pace. Julia, Chris, Gus, Julia’s mother are all included ...more

Nogged Inn by Barbara Ross is the 4.5 book in the Maine Clambake Mystery series, and I loved it. Julia Snowden makes a quick trip to New York, to get the remaining items in her apartment, since her lease is up. Imogene, her subletter, ends up coming home with her for Christmas. Wow what a wild story! This series just seems to get better and better with each new book. Nogged Inn is a quick, exciting, and fun mystery, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Julia Snowden is in New York, ready to clear out her apartment, getting it ready for the new tenant.
When Julia arrives, she finds the girl who has been subletting her apartment in tears.
It seems she unknowingly made her coworkers sick at the office Christmas party, the eggs in the eggnog must have been bad.
Feeling bad for Imogen, Julia agrees to let her tag along to Maine, at least until she can convince her to go home to her parents.
It appears that Imogen is a jinx, bad luck follow her

Very readable, a quick read, basically a cozy mystery, though a little less cozy then some, I think because it was listed as a novella and had to finish quickly. This was my first introduction to the series, which has several books published before it, so perhaps the author didn't want to repeat too much of the Maine setting for established series readers. This is a Christmas setting, and so those looking for an Xmas themed setting should enjoy the parts of it that deal with Xmas customs in a ...more

Yes, I’ve started reading Christmas books. No, I haven’t started Christmas shopping.

I read a Halloween novella in the Maine Clambake Mystery series and enjoyed it, so I picked up this Christmas one. I do love seasonal reads. Nogged Off was fun and light and has a bit of a twist at the end.

Julia is trying to wrap everything up in New York, bringing all of her belongings back to Maine. The problem is that Imogene, who was going to take over the apartment, has just lost her job and broken up with

'Nogged Off' was not my first book by Barbara Ross and not my first book from the series, 'A Maine Clambake Mystery.' Precisely the reason I wanted to read it.

I will say that I was not overly thrilled about the beginning of the book. It seemed a bit contrived and even soggy. I re-read the beginning to see if maybe I had somehow missed a bit of information or clue. No, sadly, I had not.

Every book in the series before had drawn me in quickly. So I had higher expectations, maybe. The soggy start,

It's Christmas time in Maine! This is the first book I've read in the Maine Clambake Mystery series but there is enough backstory that I had no trouble following along, and now I've gone back to read the first book. The characters are interesting, as are the Snowden family dynamics. Being from Texas, I like reading books set in different places, and the Maine coastline is definitely different. The descriptions make me feel like I'm right there, and just as cold. Also, I enjoyed reading about the ...more
